Since June 26, 2025, owners who do not subscribe lose app-based device control, automation management, modes, shortcuts, energy services, sensor updates and push notifications after the trial period. However, the hub is not necessarily completely unusable: some physical controls and locally associated devices may continue working.
The often-repeated $117 figure refers to an earlier reported price of about 1,188 Norwegian kroner. Futurehome’s currently published English FAQ lists the subscription at 115 NOK per month equivalent, or 1,380 NOK per year including VAT. What Futurehome changed
Futurehome moved from a hardware-centered model to one in which full app and cloud functionality depends on an ongoing subscription. Futurehome says the change took effect on June 26, 2025. Newly created or connected households receive a four-week trial, after which the app becomes locked unless the subscription is activated.
The current service is operated by FHSD Connect AS. Futurehome’s terms say FHSD Connect acquired rights to the platform from the bankruptcy estate of Futurehome AS on May 20, 2025. That wording does not, by itself, establish which liabilities or management arrangements transferred.

How much does it cost?
Futurehome’s published price is currently:
- 115 NOK per month equivalent
- 1,380 NOK per year, including VAT
- Annual billing, with Riverty identified as the billing partner
The $117 headline appears to be an approximate U.S.-dollar conversion of an earlier 1,188-NOK annual price discussed in 2025 coverage and community posts. Currency exchange rates change, and the older figure should not be presented as the current universal price. Collective-housing arrangements and account status may also affect what an individual owner sees.
Futurehome’s Norwegian private-customer information says one owner can attach up to five sites to one subscription.
What stops working without payment?
| Function | After the trial without a subscription |
|---|---|
| App-based device control | Unavailable or restricted |
| Automations | Cannot be configured or changed; whether an existing routine continues depends on its design and local/cloud dependencies |
| Modes and shortcuts | Unavailable |
| Energy services and Strømkontroll | Unavailable |
| Sensor data in the app | Stops |
| Push notifications | Stop |
| Phone and chat support | Reserved for subscribers |
| Documentation | Remains available |
In practical terms, owners should assume they will lose remote access, dashboards, app commands and cloud-dependent automation. The exact result depends on the device, protocol, pairing state and whether a function was implemented locally or through Futurehome’s services.
What may still work locally?
Futurehome’s documentation says some devices can continue operating without the subscription. Examples include:
- Wired lights operated from their wall switches.
- Wireless switches with direct Z-Wave or Zigbee associations.
- Interlinked smoke alarms whose local associations remain intact.
- Some manually operated local devices.
These are not equivalent to retaining the Futurehome app. Sensors may no longer report to the app, and devices routed through the hub or dependent on cloud services may stop responding.

Check heating, hot water and EV charging first
Energy equipment needs special care before allowing the system to lock:
Recommended Free Tools
- An EV charger may continue in basic or manual mode if smart charging and dynamic control are disabled beforehand.
- A water-heater relay may need to be set permanently to On so the heater receives continuous power.
- Heating schedules, alarms and other safety-relevant routines should not be assumed to continue.
Do not unplug the hub or block its network access until you have confirmed a safe fallback for heating, hot water, charging and security devices.
How to restore full functionality
Futurehome says owners can subscribe later and reactivate the service:
- Update the Futurehome app.
- Tap Activate subscription on the start screen or in Settings.
- Wait for an activation link sent by email to the site owner.
- Open the link within 24 hours.
- Enter billing information and confirm.
- Wait for Futurehome to activate the service and Riverty to send the invoice.
Futurehome’s private-customer information says payment default can lead to service shutdown and eventually collection proceedings. It also says access is expected to reopen after payment is registered. Cancellation may require contacting Futurehome by phone, so keep confirmation of any cancellation request.
Can you keep using Futurehome without paying?
Yes, but only in a limited sense. Futurehome’s terms describe a lower Basis access level focused largely on local physical operation. Existing local associations may continue, while app control, cloud services and advanced automation do not.

Futurehome also says its products use open standards including EnOcean, Z-Wave and Zigbee. That improves the possibility of moving compatible devices to another controller, but it does not guarantee that every device, feature or automation can be transferred.

- VOICE CONTROL VIA ALEXA & GOOGLE ASSISTANT: This smart bridge is compatible with Alexa & Google Assistant to achieve voice control. First, it has to connect with Blinds & Shades, then with Alexa or Google Assistant. Ta-da~ your blinds/ shades are smart from now on. When you are lazy to raise or lower your blinds/ shades, there is someone who can do it for you with a command.
- APP CONTROL: You can also control the blinds/ shades through your cell, and it's also very easy. First of all, download Tuya APP first, and connect it with the hub. Then connect the hub with your blinds. You can control the blinds/ shades wherever you are, even when you are not at home. It avoids the hassle of Alexa & Google Assistant not hearing the commands or the hassle of not finding the remote.
- EASY TO SET UP: No matter voice control or cell control, they are very simple, pretty much like plug and play Install. Just insert the hub into the USB interface and switch on, connect to Tuya App Alexa & Google Assistant, and it will search the blinds / shades automatically. It's super convenient and can save you plenty of time.
- POWERFUL CONTROL : A tiny home automation hub has huge power. It can control up to 30 blinds/ shades at a time. To avoid control failure due to the obstruction of walls, we recommend one hub each room to get a better effort. And this is a WiFi bridge. Therefore WIFI connection is necessary.
- AFTERSALE SERVICE: We are a reliable company with years of experience. Our mission is giving you a remarkable shopping experience. If there is any doubt, please leave a message, and we will reach you as soon as possible.
Can you migrate to Home Assistant?
Home Assistant is free and open-source software with no required subscription for its core features. It can run locally on hardware such as Home Assistant Green, a Raspberry Pi, a mini PC or a virtual machine. Its documentation describes local operation for supported Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, Thread and ESPHome devices.
A migration is not one click. Depending on the devices, you may need a separate Zigbee coordinator or Z-Wave adapter, reset and re-pair devices, recreate automations and replace cloud-only products. Home Assistant Green does not automatically provide every radio or guarantee compatibility. Consult the integration list and the Zigbee Home Automation documentation before buying equipment.
Home Assistant’s core can operate without internet, but optional remote access and voice-assistant services may involve separate hardware or paid cloud services. The software being free does not make a migration cost-free.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUnofficial Futurehome integration
A community-developed add-on claims to communicate with the Futurehome hub through its Local API. It is neither an official Futurehome product nor an official Home Assistant integration. Its instructions mention enabling Local API access and blocking the hub’s internet connection to prevent future firmware updates. Treat this as an experimental option for advanced users, not a supported or permanent migration plan. See the project’s documentation and maintain a recovery plan.
What owners should do now
- Record the current system: photograph or document device names, rooms, automations, modes and schedules.
- Inventory every device: identify whether it uses Zigbee, Z-Wave, EnOcean, Wi-Fi or a vendor cloud.
- Prioritize essential systems: verify heating, hot water, smoke alarms, locks and EV charging.
- Choose a path: pay for continuity, accept local/manual operation or plan a replacement controller.
- Keep the subscription temporarily if necessary: it may provide time to test a migration without leaving essential equipment in an unknown state.
- Check account details: review the price, renewal date and site arrangement in the Futurehome app or invoice.
The practical choice
Paying is the simplest option for households that depend on Futurehome’s existing app, remote access, alerts, heating controls, hot-water management, EV charging or energy optimization. The trade-off is an annual fee and continued dependence on the company’s service and pricing decisions.
Local/manual use can work for a simpler installation, especially where wall switches or direct device associations are sufficient. It is a poor fit if the household relies on notifications, dashboards or complex cloud-based routines.
A local-first platform such as Home Assistant offers more control over ongoing software costs, but requires compatible hardware, technical setup and device-by-device testing. No evidence establishes that every Futurehome device or proprietary energy feature will transfer.
