Current 2025–2026 coverage shows designers revisiting heritage botanicals in updated palettes and scales, alongside abstract florals and large murals. The modern choice is less about recreating an old-fashioned room and more about deciding how much pattern, mood, and nature you want on the walls.
Why floral wallpaper is back in style
It brings nature indoors
Designers and brands often explain the renewed interest through a desire to bring natural imagery inside. House of Hackney’s senior decorating consultant Chloe Vince told Homes & Gardens, “In 2025, nature is at the very core of wallpaper design.” Graham & Brown likewise frames its floral collection around nature and nostalgia. These are design interpretations, not evidence that floral wallpaper produces a particular health or wellness effect.
It can set a room’s atmosphere
Wallpaper is being discussed as more than surface decoration. Rachel Cope, creative director and co-founder of Calico Wallpaper, told ELLE Decor: “Heading into 2026, we’re seeing wallpaper move beyond decoration and into the realm of atmosphere and emotion.” Interior designer Elizabeth Hay said of earthy, verdant green wallpapers, “They create a calming backdrop while still adding richness and personality.” Those observations describe design intent and experience, not a general psychological finding.
Heritage patterns feel different when their palette or scale changes
Classic floral references are being refreshed rather than simply reproduced. Homes & Gardens reports designers revisiting familiar patterns in moody or unconventional palettes, as well as using smaller vines and abstract botanicals. Verity Coleman, creative director at Rascal & Roses, told the publication, “We are seeing a real resurgence of the old classic designs.” Updated color and scale can make a recognizable motif work with contemporary furnishings and finishes.

What “vintage” means—and what it does not
Floral wallpaper can draw on a long design history without being antique. The National Park Service’s Wallpapers in Historic Preservation identifies William Morris’s “Willow” as a stylized flat pattern designed in 1874. Today’s coverage describes renewed interest in classic, Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, chintz, and other floral references, but that does not make a new wallpaper an original historic paper or an exact reproduction.
Use labels such as “heritage-inspired” or “Art Nouveau-influenced” only when the design supports them. If you are restoring a historic building, the National Park Service advises researching the particular building and its physical evidence; that preservation work is distinct from choosing a decorative print for an ordinary room.

How to choose a floral wallpaper for a modern room
Start with the effect you want, then compare the design and installation details. A small repeat can add pattern without taking over; a large-scale mural can become the focal point. Neither approach is automatically more modern—the room’s architecture, furnishings, and desired impact matter.

Plan the installation, not just the pattern
Before ordering, check the roll coverage and pattern repeat, confirm the wall substrate and required surface preparation, and read the manufacturer’s application and removal instructions. A format name alone cannot establish how a wallpaper will behave on every surface. In particular, do not assume peel-and-stick paper will remove cleanly everywhere or that a given material is suitable for every kitchen or bathroom. Confirm the product’s instructions against the actual room and wall conditions.

For a mural or high-impact print, plan how the rest of the room will relate to it. Graham & Brown suggests drawing coordinating colors from the mural; that can help connect the wall treatment to paint, furniture, or textiles without making every surface compete for attention.

Axios reported that Taskrabbit saw a 70% increase in wallpapering bookings nationwide from January to May 2024 compared with the same period in 2023. That is a platform booking statistic: it counts wallpapering bookings, not wallpaper purchases, does not isolate floral designs, and does not measure the entire US market. The cited sources do not establish a corresponding statistic for floral wallpaper sales or household adoption. The evidence supports calling florals a visible design direction in 2025–2026 coverage, not claiming that every home is adopting them.
