Construction at Frisco’s I-70 Exit 203 interchange is scheduled to pause from November 2026 through April 2027, then continue toward a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) completion target of October 2027. The 2026 season’s planned wrap-up includes paving, striping, drainage, bridge, guardrail, retaining-wall and cleanup work. Exit 203 is expected to remain usable with traffic switches and periodic lane closures rather than a full shutdown, but conditions can change quickly; check CDOT’s COtrip service before traveling.
What is the current schedule for Frisco Exit 203?
CDOT lists the interchange reconstruction as an April 2026–October 2027 project costing $27.1 million. The work covers the I-70 and Colorado Highway 9 interchange and the Lusher Court/Dillon Dam Road intersection. CDOT divided construction into six phases to keep traffic moving while crews rebuild the junction.

CDOT’s April 10, 2026 announcement set a planned winter shutdown from November 2026 to April 2027. An October 4 local report said crews planned to shift traffic onto the new Highway 9 bridge-deck configuration by Thursday, October 15. That date describes scheduled work, not an independently confirmed completion.

What work was scheduled before the 2026 winter shutdown?
The pre-shutdown program focused on making the new traffic arrangement usable and leaving the site in a safe condition for winter. The October schedule included:

Because these items were described as planned activities, travelers should rely on posted signs and current COtrip information rather than assume every listed item was complete on a particular date.
What changes are planned when construction resumes in 2027?
The defining 2027 feature is a new frontage-road bypass under Highway 9. It is intended to connect Dillon Dam Road with Lusher Court, separating local movements from interchange traffic and creating a more direct connection through the rebuilt junction.
Underpass and frontage-road connection
CDOT’s phase-two advisory reported that crews had built the underpass bridge foundations, girders, deck, wing walls and retaining walls. The frontage-road link itself was identified as work planned for 2027. Completing that connection will tie the reconstructed local-road network together beneath Highway 9.
Bridge, drainage and utility work
The project also includes replacement of the sanitary sewer, improved stormwater drainage and foundation work to widen the existing I-70 bridge. Those elements support the long-term layout rather than simply changing lane markings.

Bicycle and pedestrian facilities
Multi-use paths are planned along the frontage road and across I-70. CDOT says the overall project is designed to improve bicycle and pedestrian connections as well as vehicle flow and safety.
Is Exit 203 open, and will I-70 or Highway 9 close?
CDOT’s project information says temporary traffic switches, nighttime single- or double-lane closures and daytime construction are part of the plan. During the first season, no full closures were expected and two daytime lanes were to remain open on Highway 9. That does not guarantee an unchanged route: lane arrangements can shift between phases, and short-term closures may be added for safety or specific operations.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRoutine daytime work was generally scheduled Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with occasional Sunday activity. Drivers should follow the temporary signs and flaggers in place rather than a previously familiar lane pattern.
How should travelers plan a trip through Frisco?
- Check live conditions first. Use CDOT’s COtrip service for current road conditions, closures and scheduled lane closures.
- Allow extra time. Route reliability can change when traffic switches or nighttime work affects the next morning’s configuration.
- Watch for advance signs. Read lane-use, ramp and detour signs before entering the interchange; do not make a last-second merge.
- Consider timing. Avoid the posted work window when possible, especially during activities that require nighttime single- or double-lane restrictions.
- Use the signed path if walking or cycling. Construction zones can remove familiar shoulders or crossings temporarily; use only open, marked facilities.
COtrip is the best source for a same-day decision because the project’s six phases can change traffic control without changing the overall October 2027 completion target.

Why is CDOT rebuilding the interchange?
The project is intended to reduce congestion and crash-related delays, improve safety and provide better bicycle and pedestrian connections across Highway 9 and I-70. The bypass under Highway 9 addresses local access between Dillon Dam Road and Lusher Court, while the bridge, drainage and retaining-wall work supports a more durable interchange layout.
CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew described the groundbreaking as a major milestone for the I-70 Mountain Corridor, which serves mountain communities. Region 3 Transportation Director Jason Smith called reaching phase two on schedule a significant milestone for the two-year project.
What should residents expect during the winter pause?
A winter shutdown means major construction activity is planned to stop from November through April; it does not mean the interchange returns to its pre-project layout. The bridge-deck traffic configuration and completed portions of the work can remain in service while the site is inactive. Travelers should continue to follow temporary signs and check COtrip during the pause, since maintenance, weather or safety needs can still affect access.

Will the new bypass replace the existing Highway 9 route?
No. The planned frontage-road bypass is an additional connection beneath Highway 9 linking Dillon Dam Road and Lusher Court. Highway 9 remains part of the rebuilt interchange, with traffic managed through phased switches.
Can cyclists and pedestrians get through the work zone?
The finished project is designed to add multi-use paths along the frontage road and across I-70. During construction, use only crossings and paths that are open and signed, because temporary controls can change by phase.
