The current generation identified in Sienci’s setup documentation is the MK2.5; its approximate cutting area is 866 × 818 × 124 mm (34 × 32⅛ × 4⅞ inches). Whether it suits a project depends on the selected machine format, the workpiece, and the additional workspace, tooling, dust control, and electrical setup it requires.
Which LongMill generation is current?
Sienci’s setup documentation says MK2.5 machines shipped after May 2024, while shipments of the earlier MK2 ended in May 2024. The MK2.5 includes the SuperLongBoard CNC controller, spring-loaded anti-backlash nuts, and updated lead-screw hardware, according to Sienci’s MK2.5 announcement. Sienci describes benefits such as faster movement and probing, reduced motor noise, and improved electromagnetic-interference measures; these are the manufacturer’s design claims, not independent test results.
Specifications and setup instructions can differ by generation. Sienci’s older MK2 reference specifications should not be assumed to apply wholesale to an MK2.5. Confirm the generation and consult its current documentation before planning installation or buying compatible equipment.
How much cutting space does it provide?
Sienci gives the MK2.5 an approximate cutting area of 866 × 818 × 124 mm (34 × 32⅛ × 4⅞ inches), listed as depth, width, and height in its November 2025 setup and unboxing page. The available formats listed in Sienci’s assembly guidance are 12×30, 30×30, and 48×30. Check the selected configuration as well as the approximate cutting area: the machine also needs a supporting table and room for the workpiece, workholding, router, and dust collection.

For a construction or woodworking shop, assess the largest intended panel or part before choosing a format. A part that fits within the cutting area still needs space for clamps and tool movement, and the machine’s stated work area does not describe the footprint of a complete workstation.
What kinds of projects is it intended for?
Sienci lists sign routing, v-carving, inlays, furniture parts, joinery, slab flattening, toys, household items, wall art, and gifts among the LongMill MK2’s uses. The company says it can work with hard and soft woods, plastics, foams, and waxes, and describes acceptable work on softer metals such as aluminum, bronze, and copper. With additional tools, it also describes drag-knife cutting and engraving.

These are manufacturer-described applications, not quantified performance specifications. The cited material does not establish achievable tolerances, production rates, or cut quality for a particular material or job. Treat the LongMill as a hobby and small-shop CNC router rather than a universal industrial milling machine.
What does the rest of the setup require?
Sienci’s preparation guide recommends planning the work area and gathering the machine’s supporting equipment before assembly. For its current guidance, the company says, “When in doubt, the online manual will always be the most up-to-date.”

- Bench and spoilboard: Prepare a stable table or benchtop and a 3/4-inch MDF surface, which Sienci recommends for the table.
- Computer and control: Plan to use a computer or Sienci’s gControl option, as applicable to the package and setup.
- Workholding and tooling: Select clamps or other workholding and cutting tools suited to the job and material; there is no single bit set established as suitable for every project.
- Dust and personal protection: Plan dust collection and use eye and ear protection.
- Software: Choose design/CAM software and confirm it has an appropriate post-processor for the machine.
Sienci’s guide also points users to feeds-and-speeds, maintenance, job-running, and add-on instructions. Use the documentation for the exact machine generation when setting up and operating it.
Which router or spindle can you use?
Sienci recommends the Makita RT0701 to beginners. Its router guidance discusses power, speed control, size, weight, and runout as selection factors. The standard mount is described as having a 65 mm bore, with other mount sizes available; that does not guarantee compatibility with every router.

Sienci’s MK2 reference specifications set a maximum router or spindle weight of 2.7 kg (6 lb). This is an MK2 specification, so verify the limit in the documentation for the specific machine before selecting equipment. Check the exact router variant and voltage for your region as well.
Sienci describes the AutoSpin T1 as a router with automated speed control and a manual dial, but current availability and bundled configurations are not established here. The company warns that choosing and installing a spindle can be more technically demanding and costly than using a router. Its guidance includes matching size, voltage, RPM, cooling, and power, then handling wiring, cable shielding and grounding, VFD programming, and motion and feed settings. A spindle’s added weight also needs to stay within the applicable machine limit.

What electrical planning does Sienci specify?
For the MK2 reference setup, Sienci recommends two 15A 110/120V single-phase circuits: one for the controller, router, and computer, and another for dust management. The same MK2 documentation says users in 220/240V regions should use a transformer to convert to 110/120V for the SLB controller. This is older, MK2-specific guidance—not a universal requirement for every MK2.5 bundle or region. Confirm the electrical requirements for the exact machine and local supply before connecting equipment.
How to assess whether it fits a shop
Rather than comparing machines on a single headline specification, check the items that affect the actual work and installation:
- Selected generation and included controller.
- Cutting area, machine format, and table footprint.
- Router or spindle compatibility, weight, and regional voltage.
- What accessories are included and what must be purchased separately.
- Workspace, dust collection, workholding, software, and setup demands.
- Availability of current support and setup documentation.
