DJI Romo is a real, commercially released robot-vacuum range—not a drone-company prototype. DJI’s first floor-cleaning robot is sold through European DJI stores in three versions: the Romo S, Romo A, and flagship Romo P. All combine vacuuming, dual rotating mop pads, automated dock maintenance, front-facing binocular fisheye cameras, solid-state LiDAR, and DJI’s claimed maximum suction rating of 25,000 Pa.

The interesting question is not whether DJI has added cameras to a vacuum. It is whether the company’s experience with imaging, sensing, and autonomous navigation produces a meaningful advantage over established robot-vacuum makers. Early hands-on coverage suggests that navigation is a notable strength, but does not yet establish best-in-class cleaning, carpet handling, privacy, or value.

Quick verdict

DJI Romo looks most compelling as a premium early-adopter product for hard-floor homes, design-conscious buyers, and DJI users who want unusual sensing hardware. Its front-facing fisheye cameras, front-integrated solid-state LiDAR, extendable edge-cleaning arms, dual rollers, and high-pressure cleaning dock give it a distinctive technical profile.

It is harder to recommend as a straightforward value purchase. The 25,000-Pa figure is a manufacturer specification, not a standardized cleaning score. Independent first-look reporting has identified strong navigation alongside questions about cleaning performance, dock behavior, dust-bag capacity, and real-world edge cases. Limited evidence about mop-pad lifting also matters for homes with rugs and mixed flooring.

(roborock was the first in the robot vacuum industry to mass-produce a product featuring a liftable chassis system with three-wheel control, officially launching this technology in Q3 2024.)

For U.S. buyers, the most important qualification is availability: European sales do not establish an official U.S. launch, warranty, app compatibility, or domestic replacement-part support. Vacuum Wars reports that the Romo is not officially supported in the United States and that DJI has not announced a U.S. launch timeline (Vacuum Wars).

What is DJI Romo?

DJI teased Romo in July 2025 and announced a Chinese launch for August 6, 2025. Early images showed two visibly different dock concepts, including a transparent or semi-transparent design, but full retail specifications were not available at the teaser stage (Gizmochina; Lowyat.NET).

The resulting product is a premium smart-home lineup rather than a single vacuum. DJI is applying expertise developed in cameras, robotics, sensing, and autonomous navigation to a robot that must operate at floor level among cables, furniture, thresholds, rugs, toys, hair, and other unpredictable household objects.

That distinction is important. A drone’s obstacle-avoidance system and a robot vacuum’s navigation system may share cameras, mapping, and autonomy techniques, but the jobs are not identical. A vacuum has to make close-range decisions repeatedly while maintaining brush contact, avoiding wet carpet, finding its dock, and cleaning rather than merely avoiding collisions.

Romo S vs. Romo A vs. Romo P

Model Position Robot appearance Dock appearance Distinguishing features
Romo S Standard model White White Core sensing, claimed 25,000-Pa suction, and anti-tangle roller brushes
Romo A Advanced model Transparent White Transparent robot housing and a bristle-rubber brush configuration
Romo P Flagship Transparent Transparent Deodorizer compartment, dust-box drying, and UV light for the dust bag

DJI’s European product pages describe the S as the standard edition, the A as the advanced edition, and the P as the flagship (Romo A product page; Romo P product page). Vacuum Wars reports that the three versions appear broadly similar in core robot hardware, with the P’s major differences concentrated in the dock (Vacuum Wars).

Prices vary substantially by country, VAT, promotion, and package. A Romania DJI Store snapshot listed the S at €1,299, the A at €1,599, and the P at €1,899. Other European storefronts showed lower promotional prices, so these figures should not be treated as universal or necessarily current. Check the relevant national store before buying:

Navigation: an unusual front-facing sensor system

Romo’s navigation hardware combines forward-facing binocular fisheye vision sensors with wide-angle solid-state LiDAR integrated into the front of the robot. That differs from the raised rotating LiDAR turret common on many robot vacuums.

DJI describes the system as capable of millimeter-level obstacle sensing and designed to recognize thin objects while navigating close to walls and furniture (DJI’s Romo P specifications). A front-integrated sensor arrangement may reduce the height penalty associated with a top-mounted turret, although independent coverage lists the robot at approximately 98 mm tall (Vacuum Wars).

Early independent coverage makes navigation one of Romo’s most promising features. But “drone-derived technology” should not be treated as proof that Romo is automatically better than every rival. Thin cables, socks, pet toys, dark rugs, chair legs, and pet waste are different challenges from the large, mostly static obstacles encountered by many autonomous aircraft. No obstacle-recognition system should be considered fail-safe without documented household testing.

Cleaning hardware

DJI lists or claims the following core equipment:

  • Maximum suction of up to 25,000 Pa.
  • Dual anti-tangle roller brushes.
  • Two side brushes.
  • Two rotating mop pads.
  • Extendable arms intended to clean along edges and into corners.
  • Automatic mop washing and drying.
  • High-pressure water jets in the dock.
  • Water washing and mopping up to a claimed 60°C/140°F.
  • A listed onboard tank capacity of 164 mL.
  • Dust collection into a disposable dock bag.

The suction number needs context. Pascals measure pressure, not complete cleaning performance. Actual pickup also depends on airflow, brush design, floor contact, debris size, carpet agitation, filtration, battery management, and how the robot handles corners. A 25,000-Pa rating therefore cannot by itself establish superior carpet cleaning or pet-hair pickup.

DJI also promotes “100% edge and corner coverage.” That should be read as a manufacturer claim about intended coverage behavior, not independent evidence that the robot removes 100% of dirt from every wall and corner. The extendable cleaning arms are an interesting mechanical attempt to address a longstanding robot-vacuum weakness, but their practical value depends on reach, brush contact, debris behavior, and room geometry.

The dock may be Romo’s biggest differentiator

Romo’s dock is designed to handle much more than charging. Depending on model and package, it can:

  • Empty the robot’s dust box into a disposable bag.
  • Wash the mop pads with high-pressure water.
  • Dry the mop pads.
  • Manage clean and dirty water.
  • Support automatic maintenance routines.
  • Add deodorizing storage on the Romo P.
  • Apply UV treatment to the P’s dust bag.

DJI claims up to 200 days of maintenance-free operation for the P under stated usage assumptions (DJI Romo P product page). That is an estimate, not a guarantee. A home with pets, frequent cleaning, heavy dust, hard water, or extensive mopping may fill the bag or require cleaning and consumable replacement much sooner.

The transparent P dock is visually distinctive and makes the machine’s engineering visible. It also makes dust, hair, dirty water, and residue visible. Some owners will see that as useful maintenance visibility; others will find it less discreet than an opaque appliance.

Independent reporting has also raised questions about dock quirks and a relatively small dust bag. These are observations from early hands-on coverage, not universal test results (T3).

Carpets, thresholds, and low furniture

Romo’s mixed-floor behavior deserves more attention than its headline suction figure. Vacuum Wars notes that the mop pads do not appear to lift substantially and that the robot does not leave the pads behind in the dock (Vacuum Wars). That could be less convenient than systems that lift, detach, or isolate the mop assembly when crossing carpet.

The available evidence does not establish how reliably Romo avoids carpet while mopping, how high the pads rise, how it handles thick or dark rugs, or what flooring restrictions apply to sealed wood, laminate, stone, and other surfaces. Buyers should confirm those details in the regional Romo user manual before purchase rather than infer behavior from product images.

Threshold capability also appears fairly conventional. Independent first-look coverage describes approximately a 20-mm range, while DJI markets an accessory ramp for thresholds up to 40 mm (Vacuum Wars). A 40-mm ramp is a workaround, not evidence that the robot itself climbs a 40-mm threshold. Measure each transition: height, edge shape, friction, and approach angle all matter.

App, firmware, and regional features

Romo uses the DJI Home app. DJI’s April 13, 2026 release notes list firmware V01.00.15.00 and DJI Home version 1.5.16 for iOS and Android. The update includes custom room naming, additional security-password settings, general bug fixes, and voice control for customized cleaning plans in mainland China only (DJI English release notes).

The regional limitation is significant: an app feature documented for mainland China should not be assumed to work in Europe or elsewhere. Firmware and app behavior can also change, so buyers should verify the current regional release notes and manual.

Before importing, confirm Wi-Fi requirements, account-region restrictions, map and cleaning-history controls, cleaning-solution guidance, consumable compatibility, and what functions remain available during a network outage. Those details can matter more in daily use than a sensor specification.

Privacy and security

Romo uses cameras and LiDAR to perceive the home. Forward-facing cameras may see floors, furniture, rooms, people, pets, and objects left in their path. The relevant questions are not simply whether the robot has cameras, but how images and maps are processed, stored, transmitted, accessed, and deleted.

  • Are images retained, and for how long?
  • Can camera-based functions be disabled?
  • Can maps and cleaning history be deleted from the device and account?
  • What remote-access permissions does the app require?
  • Are firmware updates automatic or mandatory?
  • Do privacy controls differ by country?

T3 and Vacuum Wars have reported privacy concerns and a security incident involving remote access to Romo units (T3; Vacuum Wars security coverage). Those reports should be understood as attributed reporting, not proof of every allegation or a permanent verdict on the product’s security. The April 2026 release notes’ addition of security-password settings shows that the security posture is evolving; it does not, by itself, establish that Romo is secure or insecure.

Availability and the U.S. question

DJI’s European online stores list all three Romo models, but availability, pricing, included accessories, and promotions vary by country. A European listing is not the same thing as official U.S. distribution.

For a U.S. buyer considering an import, check all of the following before paying:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Whether DJI will provide warranty service in the United States.
  • Whether the unit can be registered and operated with the U.S. DJI Home account.
  • Plug, voltage, and charging-dock compatibility.
  • Availability and shipping cost for dust bags, filters, brushes, mop pads, and cleaning solution.
  • Whether replacement parts are sold locally.
  • Return shipping and consumer-protection rights.
  • Language, firmware, and region restrictions.
  • Whether scheduled cleaning and mapping work without cloud access.

VPNs or region workarounds should not be treated as equivalent to official local support. For American buyers who need predictable warranty service and consumables, waiting for confirmed U.S. availability is the safer choice.

Who should consider Romo?

Good fit

  • Design-conscious early adopters.
  • DJI enthusiasts interested in novel sensing and visible engineering.
  • Homes that are primarily hard-floored.
  • Buyers comfortable with premium pricing and region-specific support.
  • Owners willing to maintain a sophisticated dock and use compatible consumables.

Poor fit

  • U.S. buyers who require domestic warranty and parts support.
  • Homes with many thick rugs, low-clearance furniture, or high thresholds.
  • Buyers seeking the strongest cleaning performance per dollar.
  • Privacy-sensitive households uncomfortable with camera-equipped mapping robots.
  • People who want a mature app ecosystem with a long record of third-party testing.
  • Owners who dislike visible dust, dirty water, or dock residue.

How it compares with established alternatives

Romo’s strongest competition is not one particular model but the established premium category.

  • Roborock: A broad, mature ecosystem with extensive mapping and dock options; a logical choice for buyers who value track record and support over novelty.
  • Dreame: Often competitive on high-end hardware and mopping automation; compare independent cleaning tests and regional support model by model.
  • Ecovacs: Offers a wide range of features and products, but app experience, support, and cleaning results should be evaluated for the specific model.
  • Locally supported U.S. premium robots: Better suited to buyers who need domestic warranty service, predictable app-region compatibility, and readily available consumables.

Romo should not be called the best robot vacuum without standardized comparative testing. The sensible comparison is between its unusual sensing and design advantages and the support, testing history, and software maturity of established rivals.

What remains unresolved

Early coverage is enough for a first look, not a definitive review. The most important unanswered questions are:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. How does Romo perform on carpets, embedded debris, and pet hair?
  2. Does it reliably keep wet mop pads off carpet, including dark and thick rugs?
  3. How effective are the extendable edge-cleaning arms in actual corners?
  4. How often will the dust bag, filters, brushes, and dock require service?
  5. Are third-party cleaning liquids permitted, discouraged, or potentially harmful?
  6. How does hard water affect the high-pressure jets, pumps, and wash surfaces?
  7. What functions remain available without cloud access?
  8. What privacy and security controls are available in each region?
  9. Will DJI provide official U.S. sales, warranty, parts, and app support?

Those questions are more useful to a buyer than another repetition of the 25,000-Pa headline.
