F.H. Brundle’s Rinato is a wood-plastic composite (WPC) decking range designed to give a timber-style appearance with less routine maintenance. The 2023 product description says the boards contain 60% recycled wood and 40% plastic, and markets them as splinter-free, UV-resistant, anti-slip, durable and virtually maintenance-free. Those are manufacturer or trade claims rather than the result of an independent comparative test, so your choice should also account for loading, substructure, drainage, finish and the installation conditions at your property.
Rinato is offered in three materially different board designs—Natural, Victoria M and Classic. Natural prioritises a protected wood-look surface, Victoria M reduces weight and material with a formed underside, and Classic is a solid board intended for heavier footfall or concentrated loads. A complete project normally includes more than the visible boards: joists or another substructure, supports, clips, perimeter boards, trims and suitable drainage all affect the finished cost and performance.

What composite decking is, and what Rinato is made from
Composite decking combines wood fibre with a polymer binder. Unlike a conventional timber board, the polymer-rich material does not depend on paint or preservative treatments to protect every exposed grain. Rinato’s 2023 product description specifies a composition of 60% recycled wood and 40% plastic. Related industry coverage describes the wood as recycled FSC-certified eucalyptus and the polymer as recycled polyethylene or polypropylene.

The practical attraction is a timber-like surface without some familiar timber problems. The product coverage describes Rinato as water-resistant and resistant to the rot and warping associated with timber, as well as splinter-free, UV-resistant and anti-slip. “Virtually maintenance-free” is the wording used in the product material; it should not be read as “never clean” or as an independently guaranteed service life. Dirt, leaves, algae, standing water and food spills still need sensible cleaning, and local conditions can affect colour change and slip.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Superior Durability & Longevity】Unlike traditional wood that rots, warps, or splinters over time, our WPC decking is engineered to withstand the elements. It is 100% rot-proof, decay-resistant. The composite structure ensures it maintains its structural integrity for years, even under heavy foot traffic or extreme weather conditions, saving you money on long-term replacements.
- 【Zero Maintenance】Say goodbye to the annual chore of sanding, staining, or sealing your deck. Our boards feature a hard outer shell that resists stains and fading. To clean, all you need is soap and water. This "fit-and-forget" nature gives you more time to enjoy your outdoor space rather than working on it.
- 【Eco-Friendly & Safe Design】Made from a blend of recycled wood fibers and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), our decking is an environmentally responsible choice. Furthermore, the surface is engineered with a wood grain texture that provides a high slip-resistance, making it safer for children and pets compared to lumber wood.
- 【Beautiful Aesthetic Without the Flaws】Enjoy the luxurious look of natural hardwood without the imperfections. Using advanced cap stock technology, our decking offers rich, consistent color tones that resist UV rays and moisture. It won't crack or split like traditional lumber, ensuring your patio looks picture-perfect all season long.
- 【Advanced Safety: Flame-Retardant Protection】Safety meets peace of mind. Our decking is manufactured with added flame retardants, achieving an excellent non-combustible rating. This critical feature minimizes fire risks, making it a responsible choice for your home, especially in outdoor entertainment areas where grills or fire pits are present.
Does it really look like wood?
Yes, the boards are designed with woodgrain or grooved faces rather than a plain plastic finish. The visual effect varies by range and by which face you install. Natural has an enhanced natural woodgrain face and a traditional flat, sanded face. Victoria M is double-sided, with grooved and woodgrain effects available. Classic has natural-looking woodgrain on one side and a traditional grooved effect on the other.
Composite will not reproduce every irregularity of an individual timber plank: colour repeat, board edges and the regularity of a manufactured grain remain visible on close inspection. Request current samples before ordering a large area, because the available colours and surface treatments can change and F.H. Brundle’s 2023 product description does not establish a current colour list.
Rinato board ranges compared
The right board depends on appearance, weight, reversibility and the load your deck must carry. The following comparison reflects the distinctions reported in the 2023 product coverage; confirm current dimensions, span tables and compatibility with F.H. Brundle before construction.

| Range | Construction and underside | Faces and appearance | Stated positioning | Important planning point |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural | 360-degree wraparound polymer Capstock shield | Enhanced natural woodgrain on one face; traditional flat sanded effect on the other | Year-round surface protection and a pronounced timber look | Check the required orientation, edge details and joist span for the current board. |
| Victoria M | Dynamic “M” underside design reduces material and weight | Double-sided; grooved or woodgrain effects | Lighter, more economical option for gardens, patios and balconies | A lighter board still needs the specified support spacing, clips and perimeter restraint. |
| Classic | Solid composite throughout | Natural-looking woodgrain on one side; traditional grooved effect on the other | High footfall or weight, including areas beneath a hot tub, in residential or commercial settings | Its solid construction can be sanded, but the substructure must still be designed for the actual load. |
Choosing by use rather than colour alone
- For a balcony or raised patio where handling weight matters: Victoria M is the range specifically described as lighter. Confirm the building’s allowable dead load and the balcony manufacturer’s fixing rules first.
- For a strong woodgrain and an enclosed surface: Natural’s wraparound Capstock is the relevant feature. Ask how cut ends are to be sealed and finished.
- For concentrated or frequent loading: Classic is the range positioned for high footfall and locations such as beneath a hot tub. The hot tub, people and water together create a substantial load; obtain a project-specific structural design rather than relying on the board name.
What “low maintenance” means in practice
Composite reduces the recurring work associated with timber—regular staining, painting and preservative treatment—but a deck remains an exterior walking surface. Build in access for cleaning and inspection. Sweep leaves and soil away, wash spills promptly and keep drainage routes open. Algae is more likely where shade and persistent moisture prevent the surface from drying; improving drainage and ventilation is more effective than simply applying a stronger cleaner.
Use only cleaning products and methods approved for the current Rinato finish. A pressure washer used too close to the board can damage a surface or force water into joints. Do not assume that “anti-slip” means slip-proof in every wet, icy or contaminated condition. The anti-slip and durability descriptions are product claims; F.H. Brundle’s published product material does not provide an independent slip classification or a comparative laboratory report.
Plan the complete installation system
Rinato is a system, not just a pack of boards. The listed accessories include polymer profiles for joists or substructure, pedestals or cradles, fixing clips, starter and fascia boards, and edge and corner deck trims in designer RAL colours. Your design may also need steps, ramps, drainage channels, access panels and a compliant balustrade or guard where the deck is raised.

Installation planning checklist
- Survey and levels: establish finished floor height, door thresholds, fall for drainage and locations of outlets or inspection covers.
- Support: select polymer joists or another approved substructure, then confirm spacing, bearing points and allowable spans from the current installation guidance.
- Ground preparation: provide a stable, level base with drainage. Do not lay boards directly on soil or trap water beneath a deck.
- Movement: allow the manufacturer’s end, side and perimeter gaps for thermal movement. The exact values are not stated in F.H. Brundle’s published product material and must come from the current guide.
- Fixings: budget for starter clips, intermediate clips and any specified screws; mixing unapproved fasteners can affect movement and warranty.
- Edges: decide where fascia boards, corner trims and end details will be visible before cutting the first board.
- Access and maintenance: retain a way to inspect joists, drains and fixings after completion.
Typical installation sequence
- Set out the finished height. Mark thresholds, falls and the deck perimeter. Resolve door clearances and drainage before ordering materials.
- Build the support frame. Install the approved joists, pedestals or cradles on the prepared base. Check level, alignment, bearing and the specified support spacing throughout the frame.
- Install perimeter and starter components. Fit the prescribed starter or edge profile so the first board has the correct setback and clip engagement.
- Lay the first board. Confirm which face is intended to be visible, position the board to the manufacturer’s edge gaps and secure it with the specified starter and intermediate clips.
- Continue across the deck. Engage each board fully in the clips, maintain straight lines and stagger joints only where the support layout permits. Every board end must have the required bearing.
- Finish exposed edges. Fit fascia, corner and edge trims after checking the final cut lengths. Follow the system detail for corners and returns rather than improvising a sealed joint.
- Inspect and clean. Check clip engagement, gaps, drainage and trip edges; remove swarf and packaging so metal fragments do not stain or injure.

F.H. Brundle also describes a related Rinato WPC fence and gate infill range. The boards use recycled FSC-certified wood, are double-sided and have a tongue-and-groove profile intended to slot together. Aluminium post options are available for bolt-down or concrete-in installation.
This can create a coordinated deck-and-boundary scheme, but fence infill is not automatically interchangeable with decking. Fence posts, wind loading, post foundations, gate hardware and privacy requirements need their own design. The tongue-and-groove connection helps assembly; it does not replace the structural capacity of the posts and foundations.

F.H. How much does composite decking cost per square metre?
The only explicit Rinato price published is a £41.00 per square metre starting price reported in a 2018 trade article. It is historical and must not be used as a 2026 quotation. No current board prices, stock, delivery lead times or exact dimensions are published in the cited material.
Your installed price will include more than the board area:
- boards, wastage and any colour or range premium;
- joists or polymer substructure, pedestals or cradles and ground preparation;
- starter and intermediate clips, screws and replacement fixings;
- fascia, edge and corner trims, steps and access details;
- delivery, cutting, disposal and labour; and
- additional drainage, foundations, balustrades or electrical work.
Measure the net deck area, then add cutting allowance based on the layout rather than applying a universal percentage. Ask for a line-by-line quote that separates boards, substructure, fixings, trims and labour. That makes a Victoria M versus Classic decision meaningful: a lower board price can be outweighed by support, access or finishing requirements.
Questions to ask before ordering
- Which current Rinato range and face is approved for my intended span and load?
- What are the exact board dimensions, support spacing, joint gaps and fixing specifications?
- Which clips, screws, joists and trims are compatible, and are alternatives permitted?
- What colour samples, warranty terms and maintenance instructions apply to this batch?
- Are current fire, slip and structural classifications available for my project and location?
- How will the installer provide drainage and access for future inspection?
- For a hot tub, commercial area, balcony or raised deck, who is responsible for the structural design and sign-off?
Verdict: which Rinato board should you choose?
Choose Natural when the wraparound Capstock and enhanced woodgrain are your priorities; choose Victoria M when lower board weight and a double-sided finish suit a garden, patio or balcony; choose Classic when a solid board and the range’s stated high-footfall or concentrated-load positioning justify it. In every case, treat the deck as a complete drainage-and-support system, not a surface-only purchase. Verify today’s technical data and quotation with F.H. Brundle before ordering, because the documented price is from 2018 and several installation and availability details are subject to change.
