It provides the strongest combination of audio quality, Dolby Atmos support, reliable control, and simple installation. The right soundbar still depends on your Frame model, room size, listening priorities, and how carefully you want to preserve the television’s artwork-like appearance.
Can you connect a soundbar to Samsung The Frame?
Yes. Depending on the television and soundbar, The Frame can connect through HDMI ARC/eARC, optical audio, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. Samsung’s 2025 LS03F Frame, for example, includes four HDMI ports, HDMI eARC, optical audio output, and Bluetooth 5.3. Check your exact model code because ports and features vary by year, screen size, region, and edition. See Samsung’s LS03F specifications.

A soundbar is useful because a thin, wall-mounted television has limited cabinet volume for bass and speaker separation. A dedicated soundbar can improve dialogue, widen the front soundstage, and add virtual or physical surround and height effects. The improvement is especially noticeable with movies, streaming dramas, sports commentary, music, gaming, or seating positioned far from the screen.

- Basic audio: A soundbar with a compatible HDMI ARC/eARC or optical input can usually receive audio from The Frame.
- Remote control: HDMI-CEC, called Anynet+ by Samsung, can allow the TV remote to control volume and power on compatible equipment.
- Q-Symphony: This is more limited. It requires a supported Samsung TV and soundbar combination; owning two Samsung products is not enough.
Samsung’s compatibility list includes the 2022 LS03B and LS03BD, 2023 Frame models, 2024 LS03D models, and 2025 LS03F models alongside selected Samsung Q-Series and S-Series soundbars. Check the complete model numbers on Samsung’s Q-Symphony support page.

The best way to connect The Frame to a soundbar
| Connection | Best use | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI eARC | Best overall option; Atmos, control, and reliability | Uses the TV’s eARC port |
| HDMI ARC | Good for ordinary TV audio and many soundbars | Less bandwidth than eARC |
| Optical | Simple, reliable fallback or older Frames | No HDMI-CEC and limited format support |
| Wi-Fi | Compatible Samsung wireless systems | Depends on the home network |
| Bluetooth | Casual, cable-free listening | More latency and fewer audio features |
HDMI eARC: the recommended default
Use eARC whenever both devices support it. It is the preferred connection for Dolby Atmos from compatible TV apps and sources, one-cable installation, and TV remote control. Samsung states that Atmos through a Samsung TV requires an HDMI eARC connection; the content, app, subscription, source device, and settings must also support Atmos. See Samsung’s Dolby Atmos guidance.
HDMI ARC: a good fallback
Connect the TV port labeled HDMI IN (ARC/eARC) to the soundbar port labeled HDMI OUT (TV-ARC/eARC). ARC is sufficient for many setups, but it has less bandwidth than eARC and is not the preferred route for the fullest Atmos capability.
Optical: reliable but less capable
Optical is useful when an older Frame or soundbar lacks ARC/eARC, or when HDMI-CEC is causing control problems. Connect the TV’s Digital Audio Out (Optical) to the soundbar’s Digital Audio IN (Optical), then select D.IN on the soundbar and optical/external output on the TV. Optical does not provide HDMI-CEC control, eARC bandwidth, or the same Atmos feature set.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Wi-Fi can support compatible Samsung audio and Q-Symphony configurations, but the TV and soundbar generally need to be on the same network. Network changes can interrupt the connection, and setup may require SmartThings or Samsung’s sound-management software.

- OPTIMIZED SOUND FOR EVERY SCENE: Get the optimal listening experience for each scene. The soundbar recognizes the type of content you’re watching and automatically adapts audio settings to produce clear voices and detailed sounds.

Bluetooth is convenient, but Samsung describes it as lower quality than HDMI. It can introduce lip-sync delay and does not offer the same control, format, or home-theater capabilities. Treat it as a convenience option, not the preferred permanent connection.
How to connect The Frame using HDMI eARC
- Confirm that both devices support ARC or eARC.
- Connect an appropriate HDMI cable from the Frame’s HDMI IN (eARC/ARC) port to the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (TV-ARC/eARC) port. The soundbar connects to the Frame’s One Connect Box where that is how your model exposes its ports.
- Turn on both devices and set the soundbar to D.IN, TV ARC, or TV eARC, depending on the model.
- On the TV, open Settings > All Settings > General > External Device Manager and enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC).
- Open Settings > All Settings > Sound > Expert Settings and set HDMI eARC Mode to Auto.
- Open Sound Output and select the connected soundbar.
- For Atmos-capable equipment, check Sound > Expert Settings > Digital Output Audio Format and choose Auto or the appropriate Dolby Digital setting.
The soundbar should switch to a TV ARC/eARC or D.IN mode, TV audio should come from the bar, and the Samsung remote should generally control volume if Anynet+ is working. Menu names can differ by software version, so use the exact model’s manual if a setting is missing.
How to enable Samsung Q-Symphony
Q-Symphony is not simply audio routed to a soundbar. It uses the TV speakers and a compatible Samsung soundbar together. For supported 2024–2025 TVs, Samsung gives this path:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- From the Home screen, open Settings.
- Select All Settings > Sound > Q-Symphony Setup.
- Select the soundbar, choose Apply, and follow the instructions.
Compare soundbar only with TV + Soundbar/Q-Symphony. Some rooms benefit from the combined output; others sound cleaner with the TV speakers disabled because of brightness, echo, or timing differences. To disable Q-Symphony, return to Sound > Sound Output > TV Speaker.

Samsung’s 2026 audio announcement says Q-Symphony can support up to five Samsung sound devices in specified combinations. That should not be confused with the current Q-Symphony 4.0 documentation for listed 2024–2025 configurations, which describes a two-device setup. Confirm the exact Frame, soundbar, Music Frame, Music Studio, region, and firmware combination before buying. Samsung’s announcement is available here.
Samsung soundbars that make sense for The Frame
Best visual match: Samsung HW-S801D
The HW-S801D is approximately 1.4 inches high and about 45.6 inches wide, making it one of the more natural pairings for a wall-mounted Frame. It offers 3.1.2 channels, wireless Dolby Atmos, and Q-Symphony. A white version may blend better with a light interior. See the official HW-S801D page. Availability and pricing vary by location.
Similar slim option: HW-S800D
The HW-S800D is another ultra-slim 3.1.2-channel option with wireless Dolby Atmos, Q-Symphony, and a wireless subwoofer. It is appropriate when you want the bar to remain unobtrusive but still want more bass than a small all-in-one enclosure can normally provide. See Samsung’s HW-S800D product page.
Best for simplicity and smaller rooms: HW-S60D
The HW-S60D is an all-in-one 5.0-channel bar with no separate subwoofer. It is approximately 35.7 inches wide and 4.9 inches high, so it suits a smaller installation but is much more likely to cover part of the lower screen or frame. It supports HDMI ARC/eARC, optical, Bluetooth, Q-Symphony, and wireless Dolby Atmos. See the official product page.

- 3D AUDIO WITH BUILT-IN SIDE SPEAKERS THAT FILLS THE ROOM: Put yourself in the heart of the action and get lost in immersive sound with enhanced, built-in side speakers. With five front- and side- firing channels plus a wireless subwoofer, you'll get well-balanced, multidimensional sound.

- MULTI-DIRECTIONAL SPATIAL AUDIO THAT COMES FROM ALL AROUND YOU: Get drawn into the action of your favorite movie or show with immersive sound that virtually surrounds you. Dolby Audio 5.1 Ch delivers clear dialogue and precise sound, while DTS Virtual:X provides a 3D audio experience, so you can hear sound around you without the need for rear speakers.
- OPTIMIZED SOUND FOR EVERY SCENE: Get the optimal listening experience for each scene. The soundbar recognizes the type of content you’re watching and automatically adapts audio settings to produce clear voices and detailed sounds.
- PICK UP EVERY PIECE OF DIALOGUE: Hear voices more clearly with automatically amplified dialogue - allowing it to stand out so you don't miss a word, no matter what you're watching.
Best for cinematic impact: Q-Series
Q-Series systems are the better direction for larger rooms, stronger bass, rear-speaker expansion, and more convincing surround or overhead effects. The trade-off is a larger bar, subwoofer, possible rear speakers, more power outlets, and a less minimalist installation.
Samsung’s announced 2026 lineup includes the HW-Q990H, HW-Q900H, HW-Q800H, and HW-QS90H, with announced launch prices of $1,999.99, $1,499.99, $1,099.99, and $999.99 respectively. These are manufacturer launch prices, not guaranteed current sale prices, and are poor fits if the main goal is for the audio system to disappear beneath the artwork.
Plan the physical installation before buying
- Measure height: A tall bar can cover the lower part of the image or frame bezel. Do not assume the shortest listed width is the most important dimension.
- Center the bar: Align it with the TV rather than automatically centering it on the room.
- Check the remote sensor: Ensure the bar does not obstruct the Frame’s IR receiver or remote-control path.
- Allow Atmos clearance: Upward-firing speakers need open space. A shelf, recess, or very tight wall placement can reduce their effect.
- Confirm mounting hardware: Check whether a compatible bracket, wall-mount kit, and installation service are included or sold separately. Hardware is model-specific.
- Plan the subwoofer: A wireless subwoofer still needs a power outlet and may sound poor when trapped inside cabinetry or pushed into an unsuitable corner.
- Check vertical orientation: Some Frame documentation warns that certain synchronized-audio functions may be unavailable when the TV is used vertically. Verify the exact model manual before choosing portrait installation; see this Frame manual example.
Choose by room and listening priority
| Priority | Best direction | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Preserve the Frame’s appearance | HW-S801D or HW-S800D | Less room-filling than a full Q-Series system |
| Improve dialogue without a subwoofer | HW-S60D or a bar with a dedicated center/voice mode | Taller enclosure and less bass |
| Movie performance in a large room | Q-Series with subwoofer and rear speakers | More space, cost, wiring, and visual impact |
| Maximum reliability | HDMI eARC | Uses one HDMI port |
| Older Frame | ARC or optical, depending on its ports | Potentially fewer formats and features |
| Lowest complexity | Basic ARC or optical soundbar | May lack Atmos, Q-Symphony, or expansion |
| Light-colored interior | White HW-S801D where available | Availability varies |
Troubleshooting The Frame and soundbar
No sound
- Verify that the cable is in the TV’s ARC/eARC port, not an ordinary HDMI input.
- Verify the soundbar connection is HDMI OUT (TV-ARC/eARC).
- Set the soundbar to D.IN, TV ARC, or TV eARC.
- Enable Anynet+ and set HDMI eARC Mode to Auto.
- Choose the soundbar under Settings > Sound > Sound Output.
- Power-cycle both devices.
- Temporarily disconnect other HDMI devices.
- Update the TV and soundbar firmware.
Samsung’s eARC troubleshooting guide recommends checking the ARC ports and cable, enabling the relevant eARC and Atmos settings, disconnecting other HDMI equipment, and updating firmware.

The soundbar is detected but the TV still plays audio
Open Settings > Sound > Sound Output and select the soundbar, HDMI receiver, optical output, or TV + Soundbar option appropriate to your connection. If Q-Symphony is enabled, confirm that you have selected the intended combined-output mode rather than TV Speaker alone.

- EXTRA CLEAR VOICES POWERED BY A DEDICATED CENTER: Hear every word with a dedicated, built-in center channel speaker that enhances dialogue clarity. Plus, feel the power of rumbling bass with a wireless subwoofer.
- MULTI-DIRECTIONAL SPATIAL AUDIO THAT COMES FROM ALL AROUND YOU: Let immersive virtual surround sound draw you in, with spatial audio that moves all around you. Feel at the center of all your movies, shows and games without the need for rear speakers.
- ONE REMOTE. TOTAL CONTROL: Use your Samsung TV remote to control key soundbar functions, including power, volume and sound effects. You can access everything you need with the single remote. Enjoy full control and have one less thing to keep track of.*
- OPTIMIZED SOUND FOR EVERY SCENE: Get the optimal listening experience for each scene. The soundbar recognizes the type of content you’re watching and automatically adapts audio settings to produce clear voices and detailed sounds.
- SEAMLESS SWITCHING: Connect up to two devices to your soundbar, like your smartphone and computer, via Bluetooth and switch between them seamlessly. Play your favorite music from either device without disconnecting.**
Audio and video are out of sync
Switch from Bluetooth to HDMI eARC, update firmware, adjust the TV’s audio-delay or lip-sync control, and test the soundbar without Q-Symphony. Try another app or source as well; delay can originate in the TV, streaming app, external device, or soundbar.
Dolby Atmos does not appear
Confirm that the soundbar supports Atmos, the connection is HDMI eARC rather than optical, the title and subscription support Atmos, and Digital Output Audio Format is set correctly. Also check that the source device is not converting the signal to PCM or stereo. Atmos is never guaranteed for every title or app.
Q-Symphony is missing
Check both complete model numbers on Samsung’s compatibility list. Common causes include unsupported model years, outdated firmware, a regional model difference, an incompatible connection method, or—when Wi-Fi setup is required—the devices being on different networks. Search Samsung Support by the full model code rather than by “The Frame” or “Q-Series” alone.

For movies, dialogue-heavy shows, sports, music, gaming, or larger rooms, a soundbar is a meaningful upgrade over relying on the television’s thin built-in speakers. A basic ARC or optical bar is enough for casual viewing. A slim HW-S801D or HW-S800D is the strongest compromise when appearance matters. Choose a Q-Series system only when stronger bass and genuine rear-speaker surround matter more than keeping the installation visually quiet.
Finally, do not assume that Q-Symphony, Bluetooth, the thinnest enclosure, or the newest soundbar is automatically best. Match the system to the exact Frame model, the room, the available clearance, and the sound you actually want.
