What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Yes. Current ecobee thermostats work with Google Assistant and can be managed through Google Home. ecobee describes the integration as an established smart-home feature, not a newly launched 2026 capability. You can ask about a thermostat’s temperature, change temperature settings where supported, and include the device in Google Home routines. The experience remains that of a third-party thermostat, however, so it does not automatically provide every Google Nest feature or every ecobee setting inside Google Home.
What Google Assistant support actually means
Three related parts of the Google ecosystem are involved:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Google Assistant voice control: spoken requests to check or adjust a connected ecobee.
- Google Home: the app and platform used to organize compatible third-party thermostats, assign rooms and access available controls.
- Routines: automations that can include supported thermostat actions. The actions exposed by Google Home can vary by model, country, operating system, app version and rollout.
ecobee’s integration page gives this example: “Hey Google, what’s the temperature in the baby’s room?” It also says Google Assistant works with ecobee thermostats and supports common tasks and routines. See ecobee’s smart-home integration page and its current Google Assistant command documentation for the commands available at the time you set up your system.

Nest-specific learning, Google Home controls or automations may not exist for ecobee, and some ecobee comfort, sensor, eco+ or schedule functions may remain available only in the ecobee app.

Which ecobee models support Google Assistant?
ecobee’s current U.S. thermostat lineup lists Google Assistant compatibility for these models. The prices below were seen on ecobee’s U.S. product page on August 18, 2026; they are list prices, not guaranteed current prices or sale prices.
| Model | U.S. price seen Aug. 18, 2026 | Google Assistant status | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smart Thermostat Essential | $139.99 | Product page says it works with Google Assistant | Basic smart control at the lowest current ecobee list price |
| Smart Thermostat Enhanced | $199.99 | Listed as compatible with Google Assistant | Buyers wanting a broader feature set without Premium pricing |
| Smart Thermostat Premium | $259.99 | Listed as compatible with Google Assistant | Buyers seeking ecobee’s highest-end sensing and ecosystem features |
Features differ by model. ecobee’s comparison page identifies differences in occupancy sensing, indoor-air-quality monitoring, included SmartSensors and other capabilities. Essential may require a separately purchased SmartSensor for some occupancy-related features. Enhanced has a stated limitation involving accessories connected to the thermostat by one wire. Check the individual product page before buying.
Older, discontinued, commercial or regional ecobee models should be checked individually rather than assumed to have identical Google support.
What you can ask Google to do
The documented, verified example is a temperature query for a named room. ecobee maintains the authoritative command list, so use that page instead of relying on generic lists that may claim unsupported controls.

- Saves you energy automatically — Save up to 26% per year on heating and cooling costs.* The Smart Thermostat Enhanced automatically adjusts your home’s temperature when you’re away or asleep, helping reduce energy use without sacrificing comfort.
- Smart comfort for everyday life — Built-in occupancy sensing detects when people are home and can preheat or precool your home before you arrive. It also learns your temperature preferences and schedule and adjusts for humidity to help keep your home comfortable.
- Compatible with 90% of HVAC systems: Use the Compatibility Checker on the ecobee support page to confirm. ecobee.com/compatibility/thermostat.
- Easy DIY installation right out of the box: Includes the Power Extender Kit (PEK) for homes without a C-wire, a Trim Kit for a clean finished look, and everything needed for most installations.
- Control from anywhere — Adjust your thermostat remotely using the ecobee app on your smartphone, tablet, or Apple Watch.
- Ask for the current temperature of a named thermostat or room.
- Request a temperature change where the current ecobee integration supports it.
- Address a specific thermostat by its device name.
- Use supported thermostat actions in Google Home routines.
Do not assume that every ecobee function—Away or Home modes, fan settings, schedules, comfort settings, eco+ options or sensor rules—is voice-controlled or exposed to Google Home. Availability can change as ecobee and Google update their services. Consult ecobee’s command list for exact phrases.
How to connect an ecobee to Google Home
Finish ecobee’s own installation and Wi-Fi setup first. The Google Home app is not a replacement for checking whether your HVAC wiring can support the thermostat.
- Install the thermostat, connect it to Wi-Fi and sign in to the ecobee app.
- Install Google Home and sign in to the Google account that will control the home.
- In Google Home, start the add-device or linked-service flow and choose ecobee when offered.
- Authorize the ecobee account and allow Google Home to import the thermostat.
- Assign the thermostat to the correct Google Home and room.
- Give it a distinctive name, then test a temperature question and a temperature-change request.
ecobee provides a dedicated connection guide. Exact menu labels may differ between Android and iOS, account types and app releases. Google’s release notes describe a newer QR-code device-discovery flow, so older screenshots and instructions may not match your current app. Google also documents controls for compatible non-Nest thermostats in Google Home, including expanded iOS support; see its release notes.
Check these prerequisites before linking
- A supported ecobee thermostat installed and online.
- An active ecobee account and Google account.
- The Google Home app and a working Wi-Fi network.
- The thermostat added to the intended Google Home.
- Unique device and room names.
- HVAC compatibility, including any C-wire or Power Extender Kit requirement.
Use ecobee’s HVAC compatibility checker before purchase or installation. Wiring, heat-pump configurations and accessory requirements determine whether a model can safely control your system; Google compatibility is irrelevant if the thermostat itself is unsuitable.

- The Nest Thermostat is designed to work without a C wire in most homes, but for some systems, including heating only, cooling only, zone controlled, and heat pump systems, you’ll need a C wire or other compatible power accessory
- Nest Thermostat turns itself down when you leave, so you don’t waste energy heating or cooling an empty home. Lock feature: No
- Programmable thermostat that lets you create an energy efficient schedule in the Google Home app on your Android or iPhone
- Remote control lets family members change the thermostat temperature from anywhere on a phone, laptop, or tablet[1]
Make voice control reliable in a multi-thermostat home
Use unambiguous names
Name devices “upstairs thermostat” and “basement thermostat,” not two copies of “thermostat.” Assign each one to its actual room. Google uses room and location data when interpreting commands; its guidance is available in this room-assignment article.
Verify the account and home
If Google cannot find the device, confirm that the phone is signed in to the Google account linked to the intended Home and that the thermostat works in the ecobee app.
Sync before relinking
Ask Google to sync devices after a rename or room change. If the thermostat still does not appear, check that it and the router are online, then unlink and relink ecobee using the current Google Home interface. Reboot hardware only after checking account, home and room assignments.

- Third-party feature depth: Google Home may expose fewer controls for ecobee than for Nest.
- App versus voice: A setting visible in the ecobee app is not necessarily available through Assistant or Google Home.
- Model differences: Sensors, air-quality functions and accessory support vary among Essential, Enhanced and Premium.
- Regional and software variation: Controls can differ by country, operating system, app version, account and staged rollout.
- Branding changes: Google’s 2026 documentation also discusses Gemini for Home, so voice branding and behavior may evolve.
ecobee or Nest for a Google-centered home?
| Priority | Likely better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Most native Google Home/Nest experience | Google Nest | Nest is Google’s own thermostat platform and may expose deeper first-party controls. |
| Room-by-room sensing and ecobee’s app | ecobee | SmartSensor options and ecobee-specific comfort features may better match your needs. |
| Lowest current ecobee entry price | Essential | $139.99 was the listed U.S. price seen August 18, 2026; confirm today’s price. |
| More ecobee capability without the top price | Enhanced | Midrange feature level, subject to its accessory limitation. |
| Highest-end ecobee feature set | Premium | Includes ecobee’s broadest sensing and ecosystem capabilities. |
Choose on integration depth, sensors, HVAC compatibility, app preference and required controls—not simply on the phrase “works with Google Assistant.” SmartSensor is useful for hot or cold rooms and occupancy-aware comfort, but it is not required for basic Google voice control.

- Comfort where you need it most: SmartSensor detects which rooms are occupied and shares temperature readings with your ecobee Smart Thermostat from up to 60 feet away—even through walls and floors—so your home adjusts for the rooms you actually use, not just the hallway.
- Bedroom comfort: Place a SmartSensor in your bedroom, and your thermostat will prioritize that room's temperature overnight instead of relying on one reading from elsewhere in the house.
- Save energy when you’re away: SmartSensor detects when rooms are occupied and helps your thermostat adjust automatically, reducing energy use when your home is empty while keeping comfort ready when you return.
- Your home’s comfort at your fingertips: Get a complete view of your home’s temperature and occupancy, then adjust settings room by room from the ecobee app—whether you’re on the couch or away.
- Flexible placement with effortless setup: Everything you need is included in the box. Simply place your SmartSensor on a stand or mount it to the wall, then connect it to your ecobee thermostat in the app. No wiring, no tools, and no professional installation required.
Buying and savings cautions
ecobee advertises up to 26% savings compared with holding a thermostat at 72°F (22°C), based on its internal April 2021 analysis. That is a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed result; ecobee says actual annual savings vary with energy use and location. Check current prices, utility rebates, warranty terms and return policies at checkout. ecobee’s U.S. product page has listed a three-year limited warranty, 30-day free returns and estimated shipping of three to seven business days, but those policies can change.
Before ordering, run the compatibility checker, confirm whether a SmartSensor is included or extra, and verify any accessory restrictions for your HVAC system.
Bottom line for Google Home users
ecobee is a legitimate Google Assistant and Google Home choice in 2026. It is a strong fit when you want ecobee’s sensors, app and model range while retaining Google voice control. Choose Nest instead when the deepest native Google thermostat experience matters more than ecobee’s hardware and sensing strategy. In either case, verify HVAC compatibility and the exact controls available in your current Google Home and ecobee apps.
