Its narrow body and low-profile, maneuverable head are the main appeal; limited runtime, a tiny bin and a head not designed for carpet make it a specialist cleaner rather than an obvious all-purpose replacement.
What Dyson announced
The PencilVac is a cordless stick vacuum built around a 38 mm-diameter main body. Dyson calls it the “world’s slimmest” cordless vacuum. The comparison behind that phrase is specific: Dyson used third-party sales data covering April 2023 through December 2024 and compared the main-body width of cordless stick vacuums, excluding the cleaner head. It is a manufacturer’s market-based claim, not a universal measurement of every vacuum category. Dyson’s launch announcement gives the scope.
Dyson lists a weight of 1.8 kg, a Hyperdymium 140k motor spinning at up to 140,000 rpm, and suction of 55 air watts. Those are Dyson specifications, not independent laboratory comparisons with other vacuums. The US product page lists up to 30 minutes of fade-free suction; actual operating time can vary with use and settings. Dyson’s US PencilVac listing showed the product in stock at $599.99 when accessed on 8 October 2026. Price and availability are a US listing snapshot, not a worldwide or lasting price.
How the Fluffycones head is designed to work
The Fluffycones head has four conical brush bars arranged across two counter-rotating bars. Dyson says the cones help eject long hair, allow cleaning in both directions and reach close to edges. The head is also designed to let the vacuum lie flat and reach under furniture. These are Dyson’s design claims, rather than independent findings that every home or floor layout will produce the same result.

Dyson also describes a two-stage linear dust-separation system, a compressed-dust bin, an LCD readout, app connectivity and a detachable battery. It says the bin holds 0.08 litres and that compression lets it hold five times more dust and debris than its stated capacity; the five-times figure is Dyson’s claim, not a separate capacity measurement. Dyson says the battery can be detached for replacement.
Dyson reports that the vacuum captures 99.99% of particles down to 0.3 microns in boost mode. The company says that result was tested to ASTM F1977 at SGS America in 2024. It is a manufacturer-reported test result under those stated conditions, not a general guarantee of performance in every cleaning mode or home.

Is the PencilVac good for hardwood floors?
Its intended use is clear: Dyson’s US listing says the vacuum is engineered for hard floors only. WIRED’s 2026 hands-on review describes it as useful for routine hard-floor debris and maneuverable, while TechRadar’s 2 February 2026 review also found it nimble on hard flooring. That makes the PencilVac a plausible fit for quick pickups, narrow spaces and homes where hard flooring is the priority.
The 38 mm body and head designed to lie flat may help with access and handling, but the narrow body does not make the dust bin large: its stated capacity is 0.08 litres. A small bin means more frequent emptying than a larger-capacity cleaner, particularly if it is used for more than light, routine pickups.

Can the PencilVac clean carpets?
It is not designed as a carpet vacuum. Dyson describes the US model as hard-floor-only, and TechRadar notes that the soft rollers are not designed to agitate carpet fibers. WIRED likewise characterizes the vacuum as hard-floor-only. If carpet cleaning is a regular requirement, the PencilVac should not be treated as a substitute for a vacuum with a carpet-agitating cleaner head.

Who should consider it?
The PencilVac makes the most sense when a slim, maneuverable cleaner for hard floors is more important than carpet capability, long runtime or a large bin. It may also suit an owner who already has a full-size vacuum and wants a companion for everyday debris. For a single vacuum expected to clean mixed flooring or cover a large area between charges, its hard-floor focus, modest listed runtime and small capacity are meaningful compromises.

Dyson also lists a separate Fluffy version with a Micro Fluffy head on its US product page. Check the head and model details for the region where you are buying rather than assuming every PencilVac listing has the same configuration.
