How can someone leave the ARB Register?
ARB’s general registration guidance describes more than one route. An architect may ask to be removed if they do not intend to use the protected title in business or practice. ARB also says that a person who does not pay the annual retention fee by the due date and provides no explanation will be removed; fees still unpaid after 31 December lead to automatic removal. What does removal mean for use of the title?
Under section 20 of the Architects Act 1997, “architect” is a protected title when used in business or practice in the UK. ARB describes its Register as the public record of UK architects and says that people not on it are not architects in the regulated sense. Can someone rejoin the Register?
ARB says the process depends on why the person left and how long they have been away. Its guidance distinguishes routes for resignation, non-payment and CPD non-compliance. How should clients check an architect’s registration?
ARB advises members of the public to check its Register when choosing an architect. Checking the public record is the appropriate way to confirm a person’s current registration; a headline or an old description cannot establish present status. ARB public information
