The headline is partly true, but it combines two separate Dreame demonstrations. At CES 2025, Dreame showed the commercially available X50 Ultra, whose retractable “legs” help it cross raised thresholds, alongside a separate bionic, multi-joint robotic-arm concept. The retail X50 Ultra does not include that household-object-grabbing arm.
What Dreame actually showed at CES 2025
Dreame’s CES 2025 announcement, dated January 6, 2025, presented both its next-generation robotic-arm technology and a product lineup that included the X50 Ultra. Because the demonstrations appeared under the same CES presentation, images and headlines could easily make them look like one finished robot.

They are better understood as two technologies:
- X50 Ultra: a wheeled robot vacuum with retractable mechanical supports marketed as the ProLeap System.
- Robotic-arm concept: an experimental bionic, multi-joint manipulator intended to explore how a home robot might interact with objects beyond ordinary vacuuming.
Dreame’s official CES announcement and its CES media release describe the arm technology separately from the X50 Ultra.

The X50 Ultra remains fundamentally a wheeled vacuum. Dreame uses the word “legs” for retractable mechanical supports that help the robot negotiate changes in floor height.

According to Dreame’s specifications, the ProLeap system is designed to cross:
- Up to 4.2 cm (1.65 inches) for a single vertical obstacle.
- Up to 6 cm (2.36 inches) across a qualifying two-step threshold, with a gap of more than 4 cm between the steps.
Those are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that every obstacle at the stated height will be passable. Threshold width, shape, angle, surface material, traction and surrounding clearance all matter. A rounded or slippery metal track may behave very differently from a broad, square-edged transition.
Dreame also says the retractable system underwent 30,000 leg cycles. That is an in-house durability claim, not independent long-term testing.

Small raised transitions are a common reason robot vacuums become stranded. The X50’s supports may help it cross door tracks, raised room transitions, double thresholds and some small floor-level changes that stop conventional wheeled models.
They should not be described as general-purpose walking legs. The X50 cannot use them to climb a normal staircase, move independently between floors or cross arbitrary piles of clutter. If a threshold is too steep, narrow, irregular or slippery, a ramp may still be necessary.

Before buying, measure the highest part of each threshold—not merely the average height—and identify whether it is a single step or a two-level transition.
How the X50 gets under furniture
The X50 Ultra also uses Dreame’s VersaLift navigation system. Its navigation sensor retracts so the robot can lower its overall height to approximately 89 mm (3.5 inches).
Dreame lists the robot at:
- 350 × 350 × 89 mm with the sensor retracted.
- 350 × 350 × 111 mm with the sensor raised.
The low-profile measurement does not guarantee passage under every sofa or cabinet. Measure the lowest point, including crossbars and protruding hardware. Dreame also warns that furniture should have flat undersides and edges, because the robot or furniture could be scratched.
What the separate robotic arm was meant to do
Dreame described the CES technology as a bionic, multi-joint robotic arm. The concept points toward a more capable domestic robot that could reach, manipulate or move selected household objects.
Potential uses include reaching toward objects on the floor, moving lightweight items out of a cleaning path and accessing spaces that are difficult for the vacuum body to reach. But the CES material does not establish a complete consumer specification sheet or prove reliable handling of arbitrary household items.

It would be inaccurate to assume the prototype could safely pick up every shoe, toy, cable, item of clothing, liquid, heavy object or pet-related mess. Robotic manipulation is substantially harder than obstacle avoidance: the machine must identify the object, plan a movement, apply the right grip and avoid damaging people, pets, furniture or the item itself.
A later report referred to a Dreame product called the Cyber 10 Ultra with an extendable arm, but that identification and its availability should be treated as secondary reporting unless Dreame confirms the model through a current official product page. The CES arm should therefore be called a prototype or concept—not an X50 feature.
Is the arm included with the X50 Ultra?
No. The official X50 Ultra listing describes ProLeap retractable legs, VersaLift navigation, vacuuming and mopping, dual-brush cleaning, obstacle avoidance and a self-maintaining dock. It does not list a multi-joint household-object-grabbing arm.
The distinction matters in practice. The X50’s obstacle avoidance may help it avoid clutter, but it is not the same as picking clutter up. Cables, socks, toys and pet-related messes may still need to be removed manually before a cleaning run.

| Model | Relevant feature | Observed US pricing | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| X50 Ultra | ProLeap legs; up to 6 cm two-step crossing under Dreame’s conditions; VersaLift | $1,009.99 sale; $1,599.99 list | Homes with raised thresholds and low furniture |
| L50 Ultra | ProLeap; 19,500 Pa claimed suction; “Dual Flex Arm” cleaning-reach hardware | $849.99 sale; $1,399.99 list | Buyers wanting threshold handling at a lower price |
| Matrix10 Ultra | ProLeap; 30,000 Pa claimed suction; multi-mop switching dock | $1,799.99 sale; $1,999.99 list | Premium mop automation |
| Aqua10 Ultra Roller | ProLeap; roller mop with continuous fresh-water rinsing | $1,179.99 sale; $1,599.99 list | Homes prioritizing roller-style mopping |
| X60 Ultra | Newer ProLeap-based model; up to 3.47-inch obstacle crossing | $1,499.99 | Buyers seeking newer high-end navigation features |
The L50 Ultra’s “Dual Flex Arm” name should not be confused with the CES bionic manipulator. In this context it refers to cleaning-reach hardware, not necessarily a free-moving claw that picks up household objects.
What to check before purchasing
- Measure thresholds: Record the maximum height, width, shape and surface of every raised transition.
- Check furniture clearance: Measure the lowest obstruction, including beams, rails and hardware. The 89-mm figure applies only when the sensor is retracted.
- Confirm Wi-Fi compatibility: Dreame’s US X50 listing specifies 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. If your router combines bands, confirm that it can provide a compatible 2.4 GHz connection.
- Plan the dock location: The base station is listed at approximately 457 × 340 × 590 mm. Allow room for approach, maintenance and—where applicable—clean and wastewater connections.
- Prepare for clutter: Do not buy the X50 expecting it to collect clothing, toys or cables with an arm. Manual preparation remains necessary.
Should you buy a leg-equipped Dreame vacuum?
A ProLeap model makes the most sense when raised door tracks, double thresholds or small changes in floor height regularly trap ordinary robot vacuums. The X50 Ultra is not automatically the best choice for a flat, open-plan home where threshold crossing is irrelevant; a less expensive model may deliver similar practical value.
Choose based on the problem you actually need to solve:
- Thresholds are the problem: Compare the X50 Ultra and L50 Ultra, then measure your transitions against the manufacturer’s conditions.
- Mopping and dock automation matter most: Consider models such as the Matrix10 Ultra or Aqua10 Ultra Roller.
- You want automatic pickup of clutter: Do not treat the CES arm concept as a currently confirmed retail feature.
- Your home has stairs: These vacuums still require a human to move them between floors or use a suitable arrangement on each level.
The bottom line
Dreame’s CES 2025 presentation was genuinely showing both retractable “legs” and a robotic arm, but not as one confirmed retail vacuum. The X50 Ultra is the purchasable threshold-climbing model; its ProLeap supports help it cross modest raised transitions, while VersaLift helps it fit under some low furniture. The arm was a separate future-facing demonstration, and there is no basis for presenting it as part of the X50 Ultra.
