DPR Construction’s Service September is an annual, nationwide volunteer initiative in which each U.S. office is challenged to complete at least one community project. In its September 29, 2026 account, DPR highlights work at a youth center in Massachusetts, a nonprofit serving children in Florida, a San Diego elementary school and a Boys & Girls Club in Georgia. The company says it will update the account as more projects are completed.
What Service September is
DPR describes Service September as a company-wide effort its teams have carried out for more than a decade. The initiative focuses on three kinds of service: building or renovating facilities, introducing young people to construction careers and education, and providing general support to nonprofits serving under-resourced communities. DPR’s 2024 Global Social Responsibility report calls it the company’s annual celebration of pro bono construction and renovation.
The 2026 account features selected projects, not a complete audited inventory of the year’s work. DPR has not reported a 2026 aggregate volunteer, hours or project-value total in that account.
Projects highlighted in DPR’s 2026 account
| Location and partner | Work described by DPR | Community purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Waltham, Massachusetts — Waltham Boys & Girls Club daycare | A DPR carpenter prepared and cut materials; volunteers assembled, sanded and painted planter boxes, then installed them with soil and plants. The team also added screening to existing fencing. | Improved the daycare’s outdoor space. DPR calls this its fifth year of partnership with the club. |
| Delray Beach, Florida — Milagro Center | More than 30 volunteers worked over several days to renovate multiple bathrooms and convert a staff restroom into storage. | DPR says the center provides after-school and summer programming, including academic support, arts, music, mentoring and character development. |
| San Diego, California — Chollas-Mead Elementary School | DPR’s project managers peer group refreshed the teachers’ lounge. Team members attended a ribbon-cutting with school staff. | The school is identified in DPR’s account as a Title I school; the stated aim was to create a welcoming space for educators. |
| Mableton, Georgia — A.W. “Tony” Matthews Club of the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta | Volunteers completed exterior improvements, including landscaping and new benches, and supported a community mural inspired by the club’s children. | Enhanced the club’s outdoor environment and supported a community art project. |
These examples show the initiative taking different forms—from hands-on facility work to outdoor improvements and support for a mural. DPR’s account does not apply common outcome measures across the projects, so the descriptions establish the work undertaken, not independently measured changes for participants or beneficiaries.

How the current work fits the program’s history
DPR’s 2017 account described local business units being challenged to take on at least one construction volunteer project. That year, the company reported work at 15 community centers and seven single-family residences, along with four youth construction-knowledge workshops. Examples included painting, concrete work, decks, ADA ramps, fencing, landscaping, lighting, handrails and planter boxes. Those figures and examples describe 2017, not the current annual program or every year’s activities.
What DPR has reported about scale
DPR Construction’s 2024 Global Social Responsibility report says Service September involved over 550 volunteers, more than 5,000 hours and over $1.1 million in facility construction projects that year. DPR says the volunteer totals include people from the company and its Family of Companies. These are 2024 figures; they should not be read as 2026 totals.
