The DJI ROMO S, ROMO A and ROMO P combine up to 25,000Pa suction with binocular fisheye vision, wide-angle solid-state LiDAR and an automated vacuum-and-mop station. But “drone-level obstacle avoidance” is DJI’s marketing shorthand, not independent proof that ROMO will outperform every established robot-vacuum brand.
The series debuted in China on August 6, 2025, with international launches following in Korea on January 20, 2026, and Japan on February 26, 2026. Availability, pricing, warranty coverage and consumables vary by region.

All three models share the headline 25,000Pa suction rating and the core combination of binocular fisheye vision sensors and wide-angle solid-state LiDAR, according to DJI’s comparison information. The transparent base station is associated with the ROMO P; the A has a transparent robot but not the same flagship station design. Regional versions include water-tank configurations and, in some markets, automatic water-inlet and outlet options.
DJI also lists regional bundles such as Pet Expert and Home Essentials packages. Their contents and pricing can change by country and promotion.

What “drone-level” obstacle avoidance actually means
ROMO’s most interesting feature is not the suction number. It is the sensing stack. The robot uses:
- Binocular fisheye vision sensors for a broad view of nearby objects;
- Wide-angle solid-state LiDAR for depth and spatial measurement;
- Algorithms for mapping, obstacle classification and route planning;
- Edge-cleaning and extension mechanisms designed to reach closer to walls and furniture.
DJI says technology derived from its flagship drones enables “millimeter-level” sensing and helps ROMO identify thin objects and decide whether to pass over or go around them. That does not mean a robot vacuum performs like a drone in every environment, nor does it guarantee that every cable, sock, toy or pet accident will be detected.

- Obstacle detection: sensing that something is in the robot’s path.
- Obstacle avoidance: changing course to avoid it.
- Navigation: building a map and selecting a route.
- Object recognition: identifying what the object may be.
ROMO’s sensors support the first three and may classify some objects, but DJI’s published material is not an independent, universal test of object recognition or avoidance.
Lighting and surface limitations
DJI says obstacle sensing works best on non-specular, textured surfaces with reflectivity above 20% and requires ambient light of at least 0.1 lux. Mirrors, glossy floors, highly reflective furniture and very dark rooms can therefore produce different results from a controlled demonstration. Use no-go zones and test the robot in the actual home rather than assuming the advertised sensing performance applies everywhere.
Does 25,000Pa mean ROMO cleans better?
DJI rates the ROMO series at up to 25,000Pa suction and cites airflow of up to 20 liters per second in its launch material. Those are substantial headline specifications, but they are not independent cleaning-test results.
Pascal ratings from different manufacturers may not be measured under identical conditions. Real cleaning performance also depends on:

- Brush design and contact with the floor;
- Airflow through the roller, dust channel and filter;
- Carpet agitation and brush pressure;
- Battery mode and software settings;
- Debris size, floor type and the number of cleaning passes.
ROMO’s maximum suction figure is worth noting, but it cannot by itself establish that the robot will outperform a Roborock, Dreame, Narwal or ECOVACS model on carpet, hard floors or embedded debris. Independent testing would be needed for that conclusion.
What the ROMO base station does
The all-in-one station is designed to reduce routine work by handling:
- Automatic dust collection;
- Mop washing and drying;
- Clean- and dirty-water handling;
- Washboard cleaning with high-pressure water jets;
- Dust-box drying;
- Cleaning-solution dispensing and support;
- A large waste-suction port.
On the ROMO P, the station adds a deodorizer compartment and a UV-related dust-bag hygiene feature. DJI says the washboard can operate for up to 200 days of maintenance-free operation under stated conditions. That claim applies to the washboard component—not to the complete robot-and-dock system.
Owners still need to refill water, empty or replace dust bags, clean sensors and brushes, wash or replace mop parts, maintain filters and follow the care instructions. DJI recommends its official ROMO cleaning solution to help preserve performance and reduce corrosion risk.

ROMO supports vacuuming and mopping, dual anti-tangle rollers, edge-cleaning arms and four primary modes:
- Vacuum & Mop
- Vacuum
- Mop
- Vacuum Then Mop
DJI says the robot can mop approximately 200 square meters—about 2,153 square feet—in Vacuum & Mop mode with a full clean-water tank. Actual coverage varies with floor type, water-flow setting, cleaning pattern, dirt level and firmware.
DJI also reports a 0% hair-entanglement rate in a controlled laboratory test using 1 gram of hair. That is not a guarantee of zero tangles in a home containing long hair, pet fur, string, carpet fibers or mixed debris.

The company says its three-stage sound-suppression system filters up to 80% of noise during dust collection. This is a manufacturer claim about that operating phase, not a general decibel rating. Dust collection, vacuuming, mop washing and drying can all sound different.

Setup and the DJI Home app
ROMO uses the DJI Home app. A sensible initial setup is:
- Install DJI Home and add the ROMO device.
- Position the robot and base station on a suitable, level surface.
- Run the required whole-home mapping process.
- Set room names, no-go zones and cleaning preferences.
- Choose suction, water-flow and cleaning-mode settings.
- Create schedules or one-time cleaning tasks.
- Keep the app and firmware updated.
DJI’s manual says whole-house mapping is required before relying on room-specific cleaning and recommends Vacuum Then Mop for the first cleaning workflow. App features and labels can change by regional software build. DJI’s release notes show continuing updates, including changes to water-flow controls and voice-control support, so buyers should check current regional documentation rather than rely on an older menu path.

Cables, strings and small objects
ROMO is designed to detect thin objects, but users should still clear charging cables, strings, small hazardous items and anything that could be dragged into the brush. Sensor capability is not a substitute for a quick pre-cleaning check.
Stairs and height changes
The manual warns about stairs or height differences over 4cm, approximately 1.6 inches, and advises enabling Cliff Detection where appropriate. Confirm thresholds and open edges in the actual home before leaving the robot unattended.

ROMO is not waterproof or water-resistant. Its mop function does not make it a wet-spill cleanup machine. Do not send it into standing water or place the base where it can be splashed.
Water, chemicals and maintenance
Use compatible products only. Incorrect cleaning chemicals can affect components, performance or warranty coverage. Water tanks, dust bags, filters, rollers, mop parts and sensors remain ongoing maintenance items.

Availability and regional pricing
ROMO launched first in China and later expanded internationally, including Korea, Japan and European markets. Regional DJI stores also list models in Canada and other markets. Prices and configurations are not universal.
Examples seen on DJI regional stores include:
- Canadian DJI Store display: ROMO S at US$1,089, ROMO A at US$1,309 and ROMO P at US$1,339.
- One European store example: ROMO S at €799, ROMO A at €1,029 and ROMO P at €1,129.
- UK DJI Store example: ROMO A at £1,149.
These are regional store listings and price signals, not a universal MSRP. A Canadian page displaying prices in U.S. dollars does not establish nationwide U.S. availability.
Before importing or ordering, verify:
- Delivery to your address or ZIP code;
- Warranty region and repair arrangements;
- DJI Home app compatibility;
- Replacement brushes, filters, bags and mop parts;
- Cleaning-solution availability;
- Compatibility of any plumbing-connected water-inlet/outlet version;
- Local support for the exact model and bundle.
Who should consider ROMO?
ROMO makes the most sense for buyers who prioritize navigation around clutter, want a premium automated mop station and live in a region with dependable DJI support and consumables. It may be especially appealing to homes with children, pets or frequently misplaced objects.
The ROMO S is the logical entry point if the goal is the core sensing platform at the lowest ROMO price. The ROMO A is aimed at buyers who value the transparent robot design and upgraded brush configuration. The ROMO P is worth considering when its deodorizing and additional station hygiene features justify the premium—not simply because it is the most expensive model.
Be more cautious if you need the lowest ownership cost, have many mirrors or glossy black surfaces, cannot accommodate a large dock, require a mature smart-home ecosystem or want a long-established repair and parts history. DJI is an experienced drone company, but ROMO is still a first-generation robot-vacuum platform.
How ROMO should be compared with established brands
Do not choose solely by suction pressure or the DJI name. Compare real-world evidence for:
- Obstacle avoidance in clutter;
- Hard-floor and carpet pickup;
- Mopping and edge coverage;
- Dock reliability;
- Consumable prices and availability;
- App quality and smart-home integration;
- Warranty and repair support in your country;
- Firmware support;
- Noise during cleaning and dust collection;
- Compatibility with your floors, furniture and thresholds.
Roborock, Dreame, Narwal and ECOVACS are reasonable comparison targets because they offer established premium robot-vacuum ecosystems. But the available evidence here supports ROMO’s specifications and DJI’s stated capabilities; it does not establish a definitive winner against those brands.
Verdict
DJI ROMO is a serious, unusually ambitious first entry into robot vacuums. Its combination of vision and solid-state LiDAR may be more meaningful than the 25,000Pa headline, particularly for homes where clutter and navigation are recurring problems. The automated dock and edge-cleaning hardware add genuine convenience.
However, buyers should treat “drone-level,” “millimeter-level,” 0% hair entanglement and 200-day maintenance claims as qualified manufacturer statements. ROMO’s long-term reliability, regional support, app maturity and comparative cleaning performance still matter more than the DJI branding or maximum suction figure. Buy it when the sensing approach and local support fit your home; otherwise, compare it carefully with a more established alternative or wait for a clearer ownership record.
