Samsung dryer icons can show cycle progress, an enabled feature, a connectivity state or a maintenance reminder—not necessarily a fault. Their appearance and availability vary by model and region, so use the guide below to identify common symbols, then check your exact model’s manual if the display differs.
How to read the icons on your Samsung dryer
Start by distinguishing what kind of information the symbol conveys: a cycle in progress, a setting you selected, a reminder to inspect or clean something, or a fault indication. A reminder does not always mean the dryer has detected a problem. Samsung cautions that “The icon’s appearance and availability varies between models.” The general guides below are region-specific, not a universal chart for every Samsung dryer. Samsung US’s icon guide and Samsung Canada’s icon guide both note model variation.
Match the symbol’s shape to the panel or manual; the names below describe functions, not artwork guaranteed to look identical across models.
Common Samsung dryer icons

Samsung’s US guide also says that on applicable models the Vent Check light can blink for three hours after a cycle when the exhaust vent is 80% clogged. The Mixed Load Bell’s 80% figure refers to dryness, not vent blockage. These operational figures come from Samsung’s 2026 guidance and are not independent measurements or specifications for every dryer.

Other display messages depend on the model and region
Some supported tumble dryers have notifications not covered by the common US icon list. Samsung Gulf describes Filter Clean/Check Filter, Child Lock, Damp Alert, Water Tank Full, Heat Exchanger Clean Alarm, and an alert that the heat-exchanger inner cover is unlocked. For example, its Water Tank Full message applies to dryers with a water tank, typically condenser dryers. If a heat-exchanger alert continues, the guide says to check that the inner cover is correctly reinstalled. Follow the instructions for your own model rather than assuming these messages or steps apply to every Samsung dryer. See Samsung Gulf’s regional indicator guidance.
Samsung Singapore’s guidance says a Check Filter message can mean the lint filter needs to be checked for correct installation and cleaned if needed; it recommends cleaning before every load. Regional messages and procedures can differ, so consult the matching manual before following button-by-button instructions.

Does a blinking dryer light mean something is wrong?
Not by itself. Some Samsung dryers blink to show cycle status, and some blink the lint-filter reminder. If blinking is the only symptom and the light pattern is not one of Samsung’s listed fault combinations, the dryer may be operating normally. A particular combination can point to an issue such as a stuck button, a door or latch problem, overheating or abnormal supply voltage; do not diagnose a combination without identifying the model and the exact lights.
Samsung’s blinking-light guide recommends cleaning the lint screen and vent system when appropriate; a clogged screen or vent is a common cause of overheating. If an unfamiliar pattern appears, note which lights are steady or blinking and whether the dryer also stops, fails to heat or shows another symptom. Icons and error codes are not the same thing
An ordinary icon usually describes a status, feature or reminder. A displayed code is a separate troubleshooting signal; do not treat it as interchangeable with a feature icon. For code-specific guidance, Samsung provides a separate dryer error-code guide. Follow the manual for the exact model, since troubleshooting can depend on the appliance.

- Identify the dryer’s model number. Use the product label or the information shown in Samsung’s model lookup and support tools.
- Open the manual for that exact model and region. Search its display, indicator or troubleshooting section for the symbol or message.
- Compare the whole display, not just one light. Record the exact message, which indicators are steady or blinking, and any other symptoms.
- Use Samsung support if the manual does not resolve it. Provide the model number and the observed pattern rather than relying on a symbol from another model’s guide.
For Vent Check, use the model’s maintenance instructions to clean the exhaust vent. A vent-cleaning brush or kit may help where it is suitable for the installation, but no one tool fits every vent route. If access is difficult or you are unsure how to clean the system safely, seek qualified help. Replace a lint filter only if inspection shows it is damaged, missing or cannot be installed correctly; a reminder by itself is not evidence that replacement is needed.
