What the plan includes
The shelf is supported by curved corbels attached to shelf and wall supports. A wall cleat and keyhole-slot plugs create the concealed mounting arrangement. WOOD describes the hidden hardware as flush-mounting the shelves and freeing the builder from centering corbels over wall studs. That describes the design intent; it does not establish suitability for every wall or load.
The published description says either version can be built in an evening. That is WOOD’s estimate, not a measured or guaranteed build time. The detailed dimensions and construction sequence below come from the plan excerpt indexed in the WOOD Store listing; check them against the purchased plan before cutting.

The shorter option suits a more limited wall span; the longer shelf provides more display length but adds a support bracket. The publisher’s material does not provide tested load capacity or comparative build-time measurements, so length alone is not a basis for estimating safe payload.

Materials and tools named in the plan
The plan’s material key specifies poplar for the wall cleat, wall supports, shelf supports, brackets and shelf. It also lists:
- 3/8-inch dowel for plugging screw holes
- Two single-hole keyhole hangers
- 1 1/4-inch fine-thread pocket screws
- #8 x 1 1/4-inch flathead screws
- #16 x 3/4-inch brads
- A 3/4-inch round-over router bit and a 5/8-inch Forstner bit
The round-over bit is used on the supports and shelf edges. Confirm the bit profile, hardware fit and all dimensions against the plan; the listing does not establish current availability or endorse a particular brand.

How the construction sequence works
The indexed instructions describe this general sequence. Use the complete plan for exact layouts, dimensions and cuts.
- Prepare the wall cleat. Make the cleat and its keyhole-slot plug counterbores.
- Shape the supports and corbels. Lay out the bracket pattern, miter-cut its flat sections, bandsaw the curves and sand them.
- Join the brackets. Glue the curved brackets to the supports and reinforce the joints with brads.
- Attach the shelf. Center it on the cleat, drill at the shelf-support locations and screw it to the supports. Plug the screw holes with dowels.
- Finish the assembly. The plan specifies spray lacquer.
Mounting and wall considerations
For installation, the indexed instructions call for epoxying keyhole-slot plugs into the cleat, driving flathead mounting screws into the wall and using wall anchors as needed before hanging the shelf. The sources do not state a load rating or establish which screw-and-anchor combination is appropriate for a particular wall material, stud layout or displayed objects. Select attachment hardware for the actual wall and intended load rather than assuming the concealed cleat makes the shelf suitable for every installation.
