DAKboard can turn a TV, tablet, monitor, Raspberry Pi, or dedicated wall display into a shared family command center. The most useful setup is usually a readable main calendar with color-coded family schedules, a short chores list, dinner information, weather, and departure reminders.
DAKboard is flexible, but it is not a ready-made family organizer that automatically sorts everything for you. You create an account, build one or more Screens from content Blocks, then assign each Screen to a physical Device. The quality of the result depends on choosing authoritative calendars, designing for the display’s viewing distance, and deciding whether your family needs viewing only or touchscreen editing.

What DAKboard is—and what it is not
DAKboard is a web-based dashboard platform. It combines information from calendars, task services, photos, weather providers, and other integrations into a layout that can be displayed around the home.
Its model has three parts:
- Account: The place where you manage connected services, Screens, and Devices.
- Screen: The layout that contains Blocks such as calendars, photos, weather, and to-do lists.
- Device: The TV, tablet, computer, Raspberry Pi, DAKboard CPU, or wall display that shows a Screen.
A Screen is not the same as a Device. One Screen can be assigned to a display, and an account can use multiple Screens on multiple Devices. Depending on the configuration and plan, Screens can also be switched, scheduled, or placed in loops. DAKboard’s current device guidance covers DAKboard hardware, Raspberry Pi systems, tablets, Smart TVs, computers, and other browser-capable devices. See the official device and Screen overview.

Decide what your family dashboard should do
Before choosing hardware or subscribing to a plan, answer these questions:
- Which calendars are authoritative?
- Will events be entered in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Cozi, or another service?
- Does each child need a separate calendar?
- Should school, sports, appointments, birthdays, and household tasks have separate colors?
- Is the display mainly for viewing, or must people edit events and chores by touch?
- Is the meal plan a calendar, a shopping list, a recipe workflow, or a dedicated service?
- Does the display need to be readable across the room?
- Will it remain powered continuously?
- Is someone in the household comfortable maintaining a Raspberry Pi or browser-based kiosk?
A useful rule is to centralize viewing while keeping editing in the apps the family already knows. DAKboard can be the shared information surface without becoming the place where every event is created.

Existing TV or monitor
An existing display is the lowest-cost way to test whether your family will actually use a wall dashboard. It works well in a kitchen, hallway, mudroom, or entryway, provided it has reliable power and Internet access and can run DAKboard through a compatible browser, computer, Raspberry Pi, or DAKboard CPU.
Check the following before mounting it:
- Whether the Smart TV browser stays awake and reloads reliably.
- Whether a separate computer or DAKboard CPU is required.
- Whether the screen is bright enough for the room.
- Whether the text can be read from the normal viewing distance.
- Whether the TV is landscape-only or can be mounted in portrait orientation.
- Whether the display is touch-capable. Most ordinary TVs are not.
This is usually a read-only solution. A browser on a standard TV will not become a touchscreen simply because DAKboard is displayed on it.
Tablet
A tablet is useful for a countertop, small wall, or temporary installation. It may be the best choice if family members need to tap through chores or lists locally.
Plan for screen-timeout settings, continuous charging, battery health, browser compatibility, accidental unplugging, and smaller text. Decide whether the tablet will be mounted in portrait or landscape before designing the Screen.
Raspberry Pi or similar computer
A Raspberry Pi or another small computer lets you reuse a TV or monitor and gives DIY users more control over boot behavior, display settings, and kiosk operation. It is a good fit for a permanent installation when someone is willing to maintain it.
The trade-off is additional failure points: power supplies, Wi-Fi, storage, browser startup, operating-system updates, and recovery after an outage. A Raspberry Pi-based display is not automatically touch-enabled. Use DAKboard’s current support instructions rather than relying on an old tutorial.
DAKboard hardware
A DAKboard wall display or CPU is the most supported route for someone who wants a purpose-built installation without assembling the computer portion themselves. It still requires you to choose and configure the Screen, calendars, and Blocks.
See the official DAKboard store for current hardware options.

1. Create an account
Start at DAKboard.com. Your account is where you create Screens, connect services, and manage displays.
2. Choose the first Device
Decide whether you will begin with an existing TV, tablet, browser computer, Raspberry Pi, DAKboard CPU, or DAKboard wall display. The choice affects orientation, touch support, power behavior, and the setup method.
3. Choose a Predefined or Custom Screen
DAKboard distinguishes between Predefined Screens and Custom Screens. The current support documentation says Predefined Screens are available on Free, Essential, and Plus plans, while Custom Screens with movable and resizable Blocks are available on Essential and Plus.
Start with a Predefined Screen if you are testing the idea. Move to a Custom Screen once you know what the family actually needs. There is little benefit in paying for elaborate customization before confirming that the display will be used.

4. Add the calendar Block
The general configuration path is:
- Open the Screen editor.
- Add a Calendar Block.
- Choose the calendar service.
- Authorize the service or provide the required calendar source.
- Select the calendars to display.
- Choose colors and a calendar view.
- Set the date range and text size.
- Save the Screen.
- Check the result on the physical display.
DAKboard provides separate current instructions for Calendar Blocks, Google Calendar, Microsoft 365 Calendar, Apple iCloud Calendar, and ICS/iCal calendars. UI labels and authorization steps can change, so use the integration-specific article when connecting an account.

- Space-Saving Design & Perfect Gift: The wall calendar Designed for versatility and style, this sleek display is the ideal size for any room. Whether mounted on the wall or placed on a desk with the included stand, it provides hands-free convenience for the whole family. It makes a thoughtful, practical gift for Mother’s Day, birthdays, or Christmas, offering a stylish way for your loved ones to stay organized, and stress-free.
5. Separate calendars and use consistent colors
A practical arrangement might be:
- Adult 1: blue.
- Adult 2: green.
- Child 1: orange.
- Child 2: purple.
- School: yellow.
- Household: gray.
- Meals: a dedicated color.
Color coding helps only when the family consistently maintains separate calendars or categories. A single overcrowded shared calendar makes it difficult to see who is responsible for an event.
6. Add chores and tasks
DAKboard lists support for DAKboard To-Do, Google Tasks, Todoist, Microsoft To Do, Trello, and Asana. Use the service the household already understands rather than creating another task system solely for the wall.
For a family dashboard, keep the visible list short: today’s chores, not every recurring responsibility in the home. DAKboard’s Family Chores Manager can organize chores, assign responsibilities, and use reward points where supported. Its current documentation is available through the TouchHub support article.

7. Add meals without confusing the available options
There are three sensible ways to show meals:
- Meal-planning service: Display information from a supported service such as Plan to Eat or Nutrislice.
- Meal calendar: Create a calendar called “Meals” and display it in its own Calendar Block.
- List or text workflow: Use a task, shopping-list, text, or external-data Block.
DAKboard’s family page promotes meal planning, but its current TouchHub documentation labels the native Meal Planner “Coming Soon.” Therefore, do not assume every account has a fully available built-in meal-planning app. Treat meal planning as an integration, calendar, or list workflow unless the current plan and interface explicitly provide the native feature.
8. Add weather and practical information
Weather, photos, school information, package tracking, traffic, air quality, and countdowns can be useful secondary Blocks. Add them only after the calendar, chores, and dinner information are readable.
9. Configure TouchHub only on compatible hardware
TouchHub can provide a dock for switching Screens and accessing touch tools such as Family Chores Manager. Through the TouchHub tab, users can select Screens or apps and edit their order, names, icons, and colors.
TouchHub does not turn a non-touch TV into a touchscreen. Touch interaction requires compatible touchscreen hardware and an operating system and browser that correctly pass touch input.
10. Assign the Screen to the display
Conceptually, the final setup is:
- Register or open the Device.
- Choose the desired Screen.
- Assign the Screen to the Device.
- Open DAKboard on the physical device or complete the device-specific setup.
- Confirm the expected Screen appears.
- Restart the device and test again.
If the screen works only until the next reboot, the problem is usually device startup, browser sleep, power recovery, or kiosk configuration rather than the Screen design.
A family-friendly layout that remains readable
Start with one main Screen. A good default arrangement is:
Top band
- Current date and day of week.
- Current time.
- Local weather and temperature.
Main area
- A two- to seven-day agenda or weekly calendar.
- Large text that can be read without walking up to the display.
- Color-coded calendars for people and activity categories.
Side panel
- Today’s chores.
- School or activity reminders.
- A short leaving-the-house checklist.
- Shopping items that are genuinely needed soon.
Bottom band
- Dinner plan.
- Pickup or transportation reminders.
- Important weather information.
- An optional countdown to a trip, birthday, or event.
Do not fill every available space. A dashboard that shows everything but communicates nothing is worse than a simple calendar with large text.
Use additional Screens when the main one becomes crowded
- Weekly planning Screen: Full-week calendar, meals, appointments, and activities.
- Chores Screen: Family Chores Manager or a task integration.
- Photo Screen: Family photos and memories.
- Morning routine Screen: Departure time, weather, lunch reminders, and transportation.
- Household Screen: Groceries, trash day, packages, and maintenance reminders.
Multiple Screens are useful only if they are visible at the right time. A rotating loop can be attractive, but a family member may miss information while the wrong Screen is showing. Keep urgent daily information on the primary Screen.

Use one authoritative source for each category of information. For example, school events might live in a school calendar, sports in a team calendar, and appointments in a parent’s calendar. Avoid entering the same event into several calendars unless there is a clear reason.
When an event appears twice, audit both the source calendars and the DAKboard configuration:
- Check whether the same event exists in a shared and individual calendar.
- Check whether the same feed has been added twice.
- Remove duplicate Calendar Blocks.
- Choose one source for recurring events.
Also remember that DAKboard may not update instantly. The current pricing comparison shows different refresh behavior by plan, and additional delay can result from browser caching, device sleep, Wi-Fi interruptions, or the source calendar itself. A wall dashboard is not a real-time emergency-notification system. Do not rely on it alone for medical, travel, school-closure, or emergency information.

| Plan | Current pricing signal | Family fit |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Free | One predefined Screen, up to two calendars, basic features, and DAKboard branding. Good for testing a simple shared calendar. |
| Essential | $6/month, or $5/month when billed annually | Two Custom Screens, up to five calendars, custom layouts, integrations, CSS, and templates. Often the practical choice for a deliberately designed family dashboard. |
| Plus | $10/month, or $8/month when billed annually | Three Custom Screens, unlimited calendars, media library, loops, scheduling, and faster refresh. Best when the household needs several Screens or many sources. |
DAKboard says it maintains a free version and allows subscriptions to be canceled, upgraded, downgraded, or switched between monthly and annual billing. The free plan may be enough when the household needs one basic calendar and accepts the limitations. It is less suitable when the family needs custom layouts, more calendars, multiple Screens, or faster refresh.

A calendar does not appear
Check the original calendar first. Confirm that events exist in the selected date range, that the correct account or calendar was authorized, and that visibility filters are not hiding the events. Reauthorize the integration if necessary, then allow for the plan’s refresh interval.
If the problem persists, test the calendar in a separate Screen or browser and use the relevant Google, Microsoft 365, Apple, or ICS support article.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Events are duplicated
Look for the same event in multiple source calendars, a shared calendar plus an individual calendar, or duplicate calendar feeds and Blocks. Choose one authoritative source and remove redundant feeds.
The display is blank or stuck
- Check whether another website loads on the device.
- Confirm power and Wi-Fi.
- Reload the browser.
- Restart the device.
- Reopen the assigned Screen.
- Determine whether only one integration is affected.
A power interruption, sleeping Smart-TV browser, expired login, private calendar URL, or service outage can all produce a blank or stale display.
The text is too small
- Remove low-priority Blocks.
- Use an agenda or weekly view instead of a dense month view.
- Increase font size.
- Show fewer calendars.
- Move photos, weather, and decorative content to another Screen.
- Test the layout from the actual viewing distance.
Touch controls do not work
Confirm that the display is touch-capable and that the operating system and browser support touch input. A non-touch TV can show DAKboard but cannot use touchscreen tools. Also check whether the selected TouchHub feature is available to the account and compatible with the Device.
The family stops using the board
This is usually an information-design problem rather than a technical one. Move the display to a high-traffic location, reduce the number of Blocks, agree on the authoritative calendars, and show information that answers daily questions: what is happening today, who is responsible, what is for dinner, and when does everyone need to leave?
Review the dashboard after one week. Remove anything nobody reads and keep a short weekly routine for entering or correcting events.
DAKboard compared with dedicated family-calendar devices
Choose DAKboard when
- You already own a TV, monitor, tablet, or Raspberry Pi.
- You want a highly customizable layout.
- Your household uses several calendar and task services.
- You want to combine calendars, weather, photos, tasks, and other information.
- You are comfortable configuring and maintaining the system.
Consider a dedicated device when
- You want a polished touchscreen appliance.
- You do not want to manage a Raspberry Pi or browser kiosk.
- Family members need to edit chores, lists, meals, or events directly on the display.
- Hardware simplicity matters more than layout flexibility.
Skylight Calendar
Skylight is aimed at families wanting a purpose-built touchscreen with calendar, chores, lists, and meal-related features. Official pages viewed for this comparison showed a 10-inch model at $149.99 and a 15-inch model at $299.99; the 15-inch page also showed a Plus option with a recurring annual price after an introductory period. Prices and promotions vary by model and date, so check the official product page and the Calendar Max page.
Skylight requires Wi-Fi and continuous power. Calendar Max is wall-mount only and supports portrait or landscape orientation, according to its product information. It is generally a better fit for turnkey touchscreen interaction than for reusing an arbitrary TV or building a deeply customized dashboard.
Cozyla Calendar Plus
Cozyla targets households wanting a large touchscreen hub with calendars, tasks, routines, chores, meals, profiles, and broader tablet-style functionality. Its official collection describes support for Apple, Google, Outlook, CalDAV, and URL-based calendars, as well as two-way synchronization and multiple user profiles.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

See the current official collection because prices and configurations change.
Cozyla may suit a family that wants direct touchscreen interaction and is comfortable with a higher upfront cost. It is less compelling when the household already owns a suitable display and mainly wants a shared calendar.
Plain Google, Apple, Outlook, or Cozi calendar
A calendar displayed directly from a familiar service can be the simplest and least expensive option for a household that only needs schedules. It will generally provide less dashboard composition, fewer combined Blocks, and weaker integration of weather, chores, photos, and household information than DAKboard.
Is DAKboard worth it for your family?
DAKboard is worth considering when you want flexibility, already own suitable hardware, and are willing to make a few design and maintenance decisions. Its strongest advantage is that it can unify several household information sources without forcing you to buy a particular screen.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

A dedicated family device is usually the better choice when the priority is a polished touchscreen that works as an appliance with minimal configuration. DAKboard is usually the better choice when the priority is a customizable display, DIY hardware, or reuse of an existing TV, tablet, or monitor.
The safest path is to start with an existing device and the Free plan. Build one readable Screen, connect the calendars the family already uses, and live with it for a week. Upgrade to Essential when custom layouts or additional calendars solve a real problem; choose Plus only when multiple Screens, loops, scheduling, media, unlimited calendars, or faster refresh justify the recurring cost.
