Counter-Depth Electric Ranges: How to Choose a Slide-In Range That Fits

Counter-depth electric ranges are usually slide-in models, not appliances limited to 24 inches overall. Compare body depth, handle-inclusive depth, and installation clearances before choosing one.

Most electric ranges marketed as counter-depth are slide-in models designed to sit neatly against standard counters—not appliances whose entire depth is limited to 24 inches. The oven door and handle may project several inches beyond the cabinet. Before choosing one, compare the exact model’s body depth, total depth with handle, and installation clearances against your kitchen measurements.

What “counter-depth” means for an electric range

“Slide-in” describes an installation style, not a guarantee of a particular overall depth. Whirlpool says slide-in ranges have front controls and leave the backsplash visible for a built-in look (Whirlpool’s range comparison). That appearance can work well with standard counters, but the door and handle can extend past them.

Also distinguish a standard-depth slide-in from a true 24-inch-depth range. The Thermador commercial-depth page describes gas and dual-fuel options; it does not establish an electric model in that category (Thermador commercial-depth ranges). The available examples below therefore illustrate fit and features, not proof that 24-inch electric ranges are widely available.

Compare the measurements that determine fit

Manufacturers may list body depth separately from overall depth. Those figures are not interchangeable: body depth may exclude the door, drawer, and handles. Use the installation diagram for the exact model and measure the space, including the path the oven door and storage drawer need to open.

Model Published fit information What to take from it
LG Studio LSES6338F 24 3/4 inches body depth; 29 3/8 inches overall depth including handle (LG specification sheet; publication date not shown). The body fits farther back than the full appliance projects. Confirm the cabinet and clearance requirements in the current installation documentation.

Measure your kitchen before shopping

  • Measure the opening width and height, countertop depth, and cabinet depth; compare each with the model’s installation diagram.
  • Check the appliance’s overall depth with the handle, not just the cabinet-loaded body depth.
  • Allow for door swing, drawer projection, side and rear clearances, and access to the electrical connection.
  • Confirm whether the range is intended to overlap the counter or requires a particular cutout configuration.

How the documented models differ in features

The listed specifications show examples of feature sets, not a controlled comparison of cooking results. Choose features that match how you cook, and verify that the specific version sold in your area includes them.

LG LSE4613ST

LG describes this electric slide-in range as countertop-aligned and lists ProBake convection. Its published width and handle-inclusive depth are useful for planning, but the design description alone does not guarantee a flush fit in every kitchen (LG product page).

Choose a cooktop and oven for your needs

Cooktop

Check whether the model uses radiant elements or induction, how many elements it has, and whether element sizes suit your cookware. Whirlpool describes dual or triple radiant elements that can accommodate different pan sizes; confirm the feature on the exact model you are considering (Whirlpool range comparison). Front controls can support the slide-in look, but consider whether their position works for your household and whether the smooth surface is practical to clean.

Oven

Compare usable capacity, convection modes, rack positions, and whether a model offers one or more cavities. A feature name does not by itself show how evenly or quickly an oven cooks. Look for model-specific independent testing if performance is your deciding factor.

What performance claims can—and cannot—be supported

The available Consumer Reports material explains its general scoring approach but does not provide comparable scores for the specific LG and KitchenAid models described here. It therefore cannot support naming one of these ranges the best performer (Consumer Reports range buying guide). Manufacturer feature lists can help you compare functions and fit, but they are not independent performance rankings.
