A cordless tool station should fit the drills, batteries, chargers, and wall space you actually have. The exact-title Wood Magazine listing confirms a downloadable plan is available, but its surfaced listing does not establish the plan’s dimensions or cut list. For measured examples, Kreg publishes a wall-mounted drill-and-charger station and a separate battery-charging shelf; their specifications should not be attributed to the Wood Magazine plan.
Choose a plan by what it needs to hold
Start by measuring the tools and chargers rather than choosing a station by its advertised capacity alone. Drill handles and battery bases need clearance below hanging holes; chargers need enough shelf area to sit securely, and their cords need a route that does not interfere with the tools.
- Combined drill and charger storage: A wall-mounted rack can keep drills accessible while chargers sit on shelves. Kreg describes a design for three drills and several chargers.
- Charger-focused storage: A longer shelf can prioritize batteries and cord management. Kreg’s separate battery station uses a concealed chase for cords.
- More capacity: DIY Montreal describes a plan for up to four chargers and five drills or drivers, or a nail gun. Treat this as the plan seller’s stated capacity and verify fit against your own tools.
Also check the available wall width, height, and depth; the charger arrangement; and whether the plan gives the level of detail you want, such as measured drawings, cut diagrams, parts lists, and assembly instructions.

What the Kreg combined station requires
Kreg’s wall-mounted example uses pine boards in 1×2, 1×3, 1×4, 1×6, and 1×8 sizes. Its listed cut pieces include a 16-inch top shelf, top rail, middle shelf, and bottom shelf; two 26 1/2-inch sides; and a 17 1/2-inch top shelf trim. The plan also includes related trim and rail pieces, so use its full cut list rather than treating these examples as a complete materials schedule.
The hardware list specifies 35 1 1/4-inch coarse-thread pocket-hole screws and two 3-inch wood screws. Construction uses pocket holes in 3/4-inch material; the plan names a Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 320, Multi-Mark, and 90-degree corner clamp among its tools. The pocket-hole jig is pertinent to this joinery method, not a requirement for every possible station design.

Plan and build around your actual tools
- Measure the tools: Record drill handle width, battery-base size, and the clearance needed for each drill to hang without hitting the wall or neighboring tools.
- Measure chargers and cords: Lay out chargers in the orientation you expect to use and measure their footprints. Decide whether cords will remain visible or pass through a concealed chase.
- Check the mounting area: Confirm the station’s overall width and depth fit the wall location and that the planned mounting method suits the surface and intended load.
- Compare the plan documents: Look for complete dimensions, cut diagrams, parts and materials lists, and assembly steps. If dimensions are missing from a listing, do not infer them from another plan.
- Adjust only after checking clearances: Spencley Design Co says its plan can be adjusted for different tools. For any design, preserve space for tool removal, charger placement, and cable routing when changing dimensions.
When a concealed cord chase makes sense
Kreg’s battery station is a useful alternative when the priority is a row of chargers rather than hanging drills. Its plan describes a quarter sheet of 3/4-inch plywood, a shelf measuring 3/4 by 10 by 36 inches, and a concealed chase formed with a back, bottom, chase front, front trim, and two sides. The listed tools include a miter saw, square, table saw, tape measure, and clamps.
A chase can keep cords out of sight, but the station still needs to be arranged for the charger plugs and cable exits you use. Review the plan’s layout against your charger dimensions before cutting; the published shelf size is specific to this Kreg design, not a universal standard.
