The existing intersection is expected to close during the transition. Bullard Elementary access is reported to remain available via Schoolhouse Road and Panther Crossing; drivers heading to rear high-school facilities should use the main high-school entrance and continue through campus. That entrance is expected to reopen Monday, October 12. Follow posted signs and check current Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and district updates before traveling, because these are temporary construction directions.
What changes on Thursday, October 8?
TxDOT’s October 5, 2026 weekly update schedules the traffic switch to the new Panther Road intersection for Thursday, October 8. The local KETK report, also updated October 5, says the change is scheduled to begin Thursday afternoon and that the existing intersection will close during the transition. TxDOT’s weekly notice confirms the switch date; the specific school-access directions below are reported by KETK as guidance from TxDOT.
TxDOT’s statement, as quoted by KETK, is: “During the transition, the existing intersection will be closed, and motorists should expect temporary changes in access near the Bullard Independent School District campus.”
Going to Bullard Elementary
During the transition, access to Bullard Elementary is reported to remain available via Schoolhouse Road and Panther Crossing. Use the route indicated by temporary signs, since construction traffic controls take precedence over familiar travel patterns.

- High-Intensity Reflective:Made from reflective aluminum, the signs are three times more reflective than standard signs, ensuring a clear warning to vehicles even in dark or rainy weather conditions.
- Durable Aluminum Construction: The sign is made of heavy-duty, 40 mil thick aluminum that resists rust. Laminated to withstand harsh weather, the graphic maintains its new look even when exposed to sun and rain. The industrial grade laminate is resistant to UV rays, water and scratches, and does not fade easily.
- High Visibility:The yellow background with a black pattern and the words ‘School Zone’ and ‘Slow’ are visually striking, forcing drivers to concentrate on the safety of students and pedestrians, making it ideal for streets near elementary schools.
- Perfect Size: The traffic sign measures 24 x 24 inches, a size carefully chosen to ensure that the text on the sign stands out. The unique proportions of the letters make the message easily understood and clearly visible to anyone.
- Easy To Install: Two pre-drilled holes for quick installation on virtually any surface including fences, utility poles and walls. 5 minutes to hang, instantly guarding kid's crossing areas.
Going to rear high-school facilities
Drivers headed to the agricultural facilities, animal barn, or other rear high-school facilities should enter at the main high-school entrance and continue through campus, according to the KETK report. The entrance is expected to reopen Monday, October 12, 2026; this is a construction schedule expectation, not a guaranteed reopening time.
How this differs from Bullard ISD’s regular traffic guidance
Bullard ISD’s arrival and dismissal guidance describes normal campus traffic patterns, not a construction-specific detour plan. The district says afternoon traffic leaving Panther Crossing toward FM 2493 is heavily congested. For Bullard Elementary School and Bullard Early Childhood Center families, it recommends Schoolhouse Road or the road between the former middle school and intermediate school to reach W. Main Street.

- Vertical Panel Sign Kit: Double-sided Orafol reflective sheeting, enhancing visibility from both directions.
- Designed for convenience, these stackable frames allow for seamless storage, maximizing space efficiency and ensuring easy organization.
- The sign panel is made from durable, high-viz orange material with reflective sheeting for enhanced visibility, even in low-light or nighttime conditions.
- The detachable 20-pound base provides stability in windy conditions while ensuring the sign stays upright. Base can be easily removed for convenient transport and storage.
- Lightweight design with a handle makes it simple to carry and position as needed.
Regular campus procedures vary: the Early Childhood Campus queues drop-off traffic on Schoolhouse Road and stages afternoon pickup in the PRIDE parking lot; elementary drop-off uses different entrances for grades 1–2 and 3–5; middle-school car riders use the first FM 2493E entrance while buses use the second; and the high school uses a one-way entrance-and-exit arrangement. These standing procedures may not reflect temporary construction controls, so follow current signs and district instructions.

The Panther Road switch is a short-term traffic operation within the broader US 69 and FM 2493 project. TxDOT describes the project as including an overpass with entrance and exit ramps and realignment of FM 2493 west of US 69. Its October 5, 2026 update lists a project cost of $68 million and anticipates completion in spring 2029. That is the current schedule estimate, not a guaranteed completion date; construction timelines can change.
