Construction officially began at Mount Druitt Hospital on 27 October 2026 for a new inpatient unit with 30 additional beds. The unit is expected to be completed in late 2027, although that is a forecast rather than an opening guarantee. The work is part of a $120 million program adding 60 beds across Mount Druitt and Blacktown hospitals, alongside outpatient, support-service, Aboriginal family-room and parking upgrades at Mount Druitt.
What is being built at Mount Druitt Hospital?
The central project is a new inpatient unit containing 30 beds. The wider Mount Druitt scope also includes a relocated and expanded outpatient unit, larger clinical and non-clinical support services, a new Aboriginal family room and additional parking.

Mount Druitt Hospital already provides 24-hour emergency care, paediatric and palliative care, and planned-surgery services in Western Sydney. The added capacity is intended to let more patients receive care near home instead of being transferred from the Mount Druitt Emergency Department to other hospitals.
When will the new beds open?
The NSW Government and NSW Health announced the start of construction on 27 October 2026. Their stated target is to complete the new inpatient unit in late 2027. The announcement does not say that the beds are complete, open or operational; late 2027 should therefore be treated as an expected completion date that could change as construction and commissioning progress.

How much does the Mount Druitt and Blacktown program cost?
The two-hospital capacity program is valued at $120 million and will deliver 60 additional beds in total. The announcement does not provide a separate cost allocation for Mount Druitt’s 30-bed unit, so the full program value should not be presented as the price of the Mount Druitt building alone.

Capacity pressure is part of a broader Western Sydney infrastructure program. The NSW Government says more than 17,000 patients from Rouse Hill and surrounding suburbs are estimated to present to Westmead or Blacktown hospitals each year. That figure is regional context, not a Mount Druitt-only patient count.
How does this fit Western Sydney health investment?
The announcement places the hospital works within a planned $3.8 billion investment in Western Sydney health infrastructure over four years. Projects named in that broader plan include work at Bankstown, Rouse Hill, Fairfield and Canterbury. Those projects are separate from the 30-bed Mount Druitt unit.

Not necessarily. The published timetable covers expected completion of the inpatient unit, while a hospital must still complete commissioning, approvals, equipment installation and staffing before beds can accept patients; the announcement gives no operational date.

Has the government announced which medical specialties will use the new beds?
No specialty allocation is stated in the 27 October 2026 announcement. It identifies the facility as an inpatient unit but does not divide the 30 beds among medical, surgical, paediatric or other services.
Will construction change access to Mount Druitt emergency care?
