Overview

Workhand is a mobile-first job and field-operations app for solo contractors and small construction crews. It is strongest for teams that want estimates, invoicing, and job records alongside crew communication, rather than a back-office system built around QuickBooks Desktop or fully offline work.

Key features

Estimating, billing, and payments

Contractors can send estimates for e-signature and create invoices processed by Stripe. US card payments carry Stripe’s fee of 2.9% plus $0.30, with no additional payment markup from Workhand. Change orders and selection management also support customer decisions and job adjustments, making the app relevant beyond basic invoicing.

Field coordination

Per-job chat, photos, daily logs, punch lists, and subcontractor COI tracking keep practical job information together. A subcontractor portal and client-facing portal extend that coordination beyond the crew. Pro adds time and mileage tracking; Team adds cost tracking, job-level profit, sales commissions, a sales pipeline and CRM, and a customer job portal.

Accounting, language, and data

Team syncs customers, invoices, and payments both ways with QuickBooks Online, but QuickBooks Desktop is not supported. The interface and customer estimates and invoices support English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. Workhand says customer content remains the customer’s property and is not sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers. When AI Suggest is used, project and catalog or template descriptions are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API; personal details, photos, payment information, and QuickBooks data are not sent.

Working offline and support

Some records already loaded can be viewed offline, and chat, photo uploads, and new estimates can queue locally. Creating a brand-new job entirely offline is not supported, so crews with unreliable connectivity should check whether that restriction fits their workflow. Support is by email, typically responding within one business day; Team customers get priority response, and phone support is not offered.

Pricing

Workhand has a free plan, paid plans from $34.99/mo, and a 14-day trial. The published monthly prices are:

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	0.00 USD per month	One active job and one teammate; unlimited customers; three estimates and three invoices per month; per-job chat, photos, punch lists, daily logs, and unlimited subcontractors with COI tracking.
Pro	34.99 USD per month	Unlimited active jobs and up to five teammates, plus recurring invoices, time and mileage tracking, AI receipt scanning, a customer review funnel, public profile page, and pool chemical logs.
Team	89.99 USD per month	Up to 15 teammates, cost tracking, per-job profit, sales commission tracking, yearly Ledger and 1099 exports, QuickBooks Online sync, sales pipeline and CRM, customer-facing job portal, and priority support.

Free is a practical way for a solo operator to try the job-record tools, but its one-job, one-user ceiling and monthly estimate and invoice quotas make it unsuitable for a growing workload. Pro removes the job cap and raises the crew limit to five, while adding field timekeeping and recurring billing; it does not include Team’s cost and profit tracking or accounting sync. Team is the fit for larger crews that need those financial and customer-management tools, though it still caps seats at 15. Card processing fees apply separately from the plan price.

Platforms

Workhand runs on Android, iOS, and the web. Its mobile-first design suits field crews, while the offline limits may matter more to work sites with inconsistent connectivity.

Who it's for

Workhand fits solo operators and small crews in general contracting, remodeling, HVAC and plumbing installation, landscaping, concrete, and pool building. It is most compelling when the same team needs field records, estimates, invoices, and crew communication, with a gradual path from a one-person free plan to paid team tools. Contractors dependent on QuickBooks Desktop, fully offline job creation, or phone support should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros

Useful free entry point: one user can manage a job, customers, field records, and a small monthly volume of estimates and invoices without a subscription.
Field and billing tools are connected: estimates, invoices, job chat, logs, punch lists, and COI tracking cover work coordination as well as payment administration.
Paid tiers scale by team needs: Pro lifts the active-job limit, while Team adds cost visibility and QuickBooks Online sync for crews up to 15.
Customer-facing materials support three languages: estimates and invoices can be presented in English, Spanish, or Brazilian Portuguese.

Cons

Free quotas are tight: one active job and three estimates and invoices monthly will quickly constrain an active contractor.
Accounting sync excludes Desktop: Team’s two-way QuickBooks connection is only for QuickBooks Online.
Offline work is incomplete: new jobs cannot be created fully offline, even though some records and queued actions remain usable.
Support is email-only: there is no phone option, which may not suit contractors who want live assistance.

Alternatives

Compare remodeling contractor software if you want to weigh Workhand against a broader set of tools for renovation work.

Build Method is worth considering if you prefer a paid plan with one user and unlimited projects and customers; its listed plan is 99.00 USD per month billed $1,188.00 USD Annually.
ProBuilder OS is another paid option, with a 49.00 USD per month Solo plan for one office user and up to five field users; its dedicated field workspace is described as coming soon.
Wunderbuild offers a Starter plan at 123.00 AUD per month with one active project, unlimited estimations and users, and no lock-in contract; consider it if those project and contract terms suit your work.
Buildxact has a free Go plan with five complimentary credits, AI estimating, professional proposals, and Home Depot material ordering; it may suit a reader prioritizing estimating and material ordering.
Houzz combines a free plan with a 3D Floor Planner, estimates, and invoicing, making it an option to compare if those tools are a priority.
JobTread has a paid monthly plan with all features included and tiered price breaks beginning after 10 users; consider it if that pricing structure better fits your crew.
Buildshop has a free Basic plan with estimates, invoices, to-do lists, contact management, messaging, a project portfolio, and a bid center.
Ressio is another paid alternative to compare.

Verdict

Choose Workhand if you are a solo contractor or small crew looking to connect job coordination with estimates and invoicing, and especially if you can start on Free before adding Pro or Team tools. Its combination of field records, crew communication, and increasingly capable paid tiers is the case for it. Look elsewhere if QuickBooks Desktop, fully offline job creation, or phone support is essential to your operation.
