Pour fabriquer facilement un cordon décoratif, vous pouvez torsader plusieurs fils ensemble. Cette méthode ne produit pas une corde tressée au sens strict : la torsade se forme en repliant des fils tordus sur eux-mêmes. Une tresse, elle, entrecroise des brins. Dans les deux cas, le cordon artisanal décrit ici n’est pas conçu pour porter une charge ni pour assurer la sécurité d’une personne.
Fabriquer un cordon décoratif torsadé
La méthode de Bergère de France est présentée comme adaptée aux débutants. Elle nécessite des fils ou de la laine, une aiguille et un point de fixation stable, comme une poignée de porte. Pour cette méthode précise, prévoyez des fils d’une longueur au moins trois fois supérieure à celle du cordon fini souhaité ; ce rapport n’est pas une règle universelle pour les autres techniques.

Coupez plusieurs fils de même longueur, en prévoyant au moins trois fois la longueur visée pour le cordon terminé.

Rassemblez les fils et faites un nœud à une extrémité. Fixez cette extrémité à un point stable.

Placez une aiguille dans la boucle de l’autre extrémité. Tendez les fils en vous éloignant du point fixe, puis faites tourner l’aiguille pour tordre fermement le faisceau.

Tout en gardant les fils tendus, pliez le faisceau tordu en deux.

Détachez l’extrémité fixée, nouez-la solidement et laissez le faisceau se retordre sur lui-même pour former le cordon.

Une autre technique : le kumihimo
Le kumihimo utilise un carré de tressage et une séquence de déplacements propre au motif choisi. Les instructions de Beadalon pour son carré décrivent une tresse plate particulière, et non une méthode générale pour fabriquer tous les types de cordes.

Mesurez six longueurs de fil et pliez chacune en deux afin d’obtenir douze brins.

Les consignes complètes et le motif sont ceux des instructions Beadalon pour le carré kumihimo. Le fabricant indique qu’un plus grand nombre de fils donne une tresse plus large ; cette indication concerne le dispositif décrit.

Ne pas confondre torsade, tresse et cordage
Un cordon torsadé se forme en tordant des fils puis en laissant le faisceau replié s’enrouler sur lui-même. Une tresse se forme par entrecroisement de brins. Dans la fabrication de cordages, les constructions peuvent être plus complexes : l’Afpa répertorie notamment des cordages à trois ou quatre torons, des tresses creuses, des doubles tresses et des cordages à huit torons dans son programme de matelotage.
La Société Choletaise de Fabrication distingue parmi les produits réalisés par tressage des cordons, cordes, tresses plates et nattes. Le nombre de fuseaux, le nombre et la taille des fils ainsi que leur disposition influencent la forme obtenue. Ces procédés de fabrication ne se résument pas aux gestes d’un petit projet de loisir.

Limites de sécurité : ne pas utiliser ce cordon comme équipement de protection
Le cordon fait main décrit ici est décoratif. Ne l’utilisez pas pour l’escalade, le levage, l’assurage ou tout autre usage où une rupture pourrait blesser quelqu’un. Un cordon de loisir ne remplace ni un équipement conçu pour l’usage prévu, ni sa vérification, ni la formation nécessaire.
