The 2024 Forbes photo feature “20 Spectacular Christmas Trees Around the World in Photos” names or captions 19 displays that can be identified from its accessible text. They range from landmark trees and public-square installations to an illuminated hillside, a floating display and a walk-through attraction. The feature’s text does not establish the full lineup of twenty, so this guide covers the 19 identifiable locations rather than filling the gap with guesses.
Landmark Christmas trees
Rockefeller Center, New York City
Rockefeller Center’s tree carries a story as well as a city landmark’s scale. According to the venue’s official history, construction workers pooled their money for a 20-foot balsam fir in December 1931, then raised and decorated it on Christmas Eve. That modest beginning contrasts with the display’s place in the city’s holiday calendar today.

U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C.
The U.S. Capitol is among the American landmark settings identified in the 2024 feature. Its appeal comes from placing a seasonal tree within the symbolic landscape of the nation’s capital; the accessible feature text does not provide a tree height, lighting count or other specifications.

City-center and public-square displays

Department-store and destination settings
Galeries Lafayette, Paris
The Paris entry is associated with Galeries Lafayette, giving the roundup a major retail setting alongside its civic landmarks and squares. The accessible feature text names the location but does not establish the tree’s height or describe its installation in detail.
Vilnius, Lithuania
Vilnius illustrates how a city’s tree concept can change from year to year. The city’s historical review describes a 2018 installation shaped like a clock. For 2025, Go Vilnius reported a 20-meter natural spruce decorated with 25,000 warm-white LED lights and 400 ornaments, in a classic red-and-gold theme. Those figures describe the 2025 tree, not a permanent design.
Go Vilnius lists November 28, 2026 for the tree lighting and Christmas market opening, with the market scheduled through December 27. The city says the 2026 design remains secret; earlier installations do not reveal what that year’s tree will look like.

Displays that transform the landscape
Gubbio, Italy
Gubbio’s display is not simply a conventional tree decorated with lights: the 2024 feature describes a tree-like illuminated landscape. The feature reports a 2,000-foot display, but that figure is its own claim and should not be treated as a current record without confirmation from the organizer or an authoritative record holder.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio’s entry is a floating Christmas tree, a format that turns the water into part of the display. The 2024 feature cites a 278-foot floating tree as a 2007 Guinness figure. That is a historical claim attributed to the feature, not a current record assertion.
Vigo, Spain
Vigo’s tree is described as a walk-through installation, so visitors can experience it from inside rather than only viewing it from outside. The feature reports a height of more than 45 meters for the 2024-season example; it is not presented here as a current record.
What makes these displays different
These examples show why a single “best” or “most spectacular” ranking would be subjective. A landmark tree draws meaning from its setting and history; a public-square display becomes part of a city’s shared space; and installations such as Gubbio, Rio and Vigo change the idea of what a tree can be. The feature itself notes that claims about the “most famous” tree are disputed.

A photograph or measurement from one year should not be read as a promise about the next: Vilnius has moved from a clock-shaped installation in 2018 to a natural spruce in 2025, while its city says its 2026 design has not yet been revealed.
