On Sunday, 16 March 2025, Western Australia’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) issued a general warning after a chlorine leak was identified at Collie Heated Swimming Pool. PerthNow reported the warning at about 7 p.m., near the intersection of Throssell Street and Steere Street South, and said nearby roads were closed. This is a historical report, not a current alert.
What was reported at the Collie pool
PerthNow reported that chlorine gas was present at Collie Heated Swimming Pool and firefighters were working to contain the leak. At the time of the report, the gas was blowing west and could affect nearby residents. Those details describe conditions reported during the incident on 16 March 2025, not current conditions. PerthNow’s report was published at 8:41 p.m. that evening.
Which areas and roads were affected?
The report listed the following streets as boundaries of the affected area, along with surrounding areas:
- Forrest Street
- Lefroy Street
- Coalfields Highway
- David Hay Street
- Venn Street East and Venn Street West
- Jacaranda Loop
- Wellington Boulevard
PerthNow also reported closures on Throssell Street, from the start of town to Lefroy Street, as well as Ben Street and Forrest Street. These were closures reported during the emergency; this article does not establish their current status.
