CES 2025: Roborock Announces a Robot Vacuum With an Arm—Here’s What It Can Actually Do

The Roborock Saros Z70 is a real robot vacuum with a foldable five-axis arm, but its OmniGrip system is limited to selected lightweight objects under 300 grams.

Roborock’s Saros Z70 is a real robot vacuum and mop with a foldable five-axis mechanical arm—not a general-purpose household robot. Announced at CES 2025, its OmniGrip arm is designed to identify and move lightweight floor clutter such as socks, sandals, tissues and small towels, allowing the robot to clean areas that were previously blocked.

The key limitation is weight: Roborock specifies objects under 300 grams. The arm also depends on object recognition, app configuration, camera permissions, suitable positioning and software support, so it should be viewed as a specialized clutter-handling feature rather than an automated replacement for tidying.

What Roborock announced at CES 2025

Roborock announced the Saros Z70 on January 5, 2025, as part of its Saros flagship range alongside the Saros 10 and Saros 10R. Roborock described it as the first mass-produced robot vacuum with a foldable robotic arm, although that “first” claim comes from the company and has not been independently audited.

The arm, called OmniGrip, folds into the robot’s 7.98-centimeter body. It uses five axes of movement, cameras, precision sensors and an LED light to locate and manipulate selected objects on the floor. Roborock initially said the Z70 was expected to launch in the first half of 2025.

Roborock’s announcement is available in its CES 2025 newsroom release and its later Saros Z70 launch announcement.

How the arm works

The Saros Z70 does not continuously roam around collecting everything in its path. Roborock describes a staged process:

  1. Detection: During an initial cleaning pass, the robot identifies objects it believes it can handle and marks their locations.
  2. Cleaning: It continues cleaning the accessible parts of the floor.
  3. Return: On a later pass, it goes back to the marked objects.
  4. Pickup: The OmniGrip arm unfolds, approaches an eligible item and attempts to grip it.
  5. Relocation: The robot moves the object to a destination configured in the Roborock app, where supported.
  6. Recleaning: It cleans the floor that had been obstructed.

This two-pass approach matters. The robot must first recognize an object, navigate back to it and position its arm correctly. A recognized object is not automatically a successfully picked-up object.

What the Saros Z70 can pick up

Roborock’s published examples include:

  • Socks
  • Sandals
  • Crumpled tissues
  • Towels or small towels
  • Other supported lightweight objects under 300 grams

Roborock says the system recognizes 108 pre-programmed objects and allows users to define up to 50 additional objects through the app. Custom recognition depends on the applicable software and over-the-air updates, and the 108-object figure should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every recognized item can be reliably grasped.

The company’s Project Digits product page provides the published details about supported objects, recognition and app controls.

The 300-gram limit is the important detail

Roborock specifies that the arm is intended for objects weighing less than 300 grams. That makes it suitable for light floor clutter, not meaningful lifting.

A visible object may still be left in place if it is too heavy, partly trapped under furniture, badly positioned, wet, sticky, sharp or difficult to isolate from other objects. The arm’s published capabilities also do not establish that it can safely handle liquids, hazardous materials, delicate valuables or arbitrary household debris.

It cannot move furniture, open doors, clean tables or countertops, pick up objects from sofas or other elevated surfaces, or organize an entire room without configured destinations and compatible objects. In a heavily cluttered room—with cables, toys, pet waste or unsupported items—manual preparation may remain faster and safer.

It is still a full robot vacuum and mop

The arm is the headline feature, but the Z70 is built as a premium floor-cleaning robot. Roborock lists:

  • 7.98cm height: a low profile intended to help the robot reach beneath furniture. Roborock called it the company’s thinnest robot-vacuum model at the time of its announcement.
  • 22,000Pa HyperForce suction: a manufacturer rating, not an independent cleaning score.
  • StarSight Autonomous System 2.0: Roborock’s navigation and sensing platform.
  • Dual-light 3D ToF sensors and RGB cameras: used for navigation and object detection.
  • Dual anti-tangle technology, AdaptiLift chassis and FlexiArm riser technology.
  • Multi-functional Dock 4.0: the accompanying automated dock.
  • App and voice control: through the Roborock app and compatible Alexa, Siri and Google Home features.

Roborock says its internal testing showed detection of objects as small as 2cm wide and 2cm tall. That is a manufacturer test claim, not an independently verified guarantee for every floor, lighting condition or household.

The low 7.98cm body is notable because the arm is integrated without adding a tall tower. Roborock says the arm occupies 10% of the product’s space based on internal measurements. The available specifications do not establish whether that integration affects capacity, battery life, serviceability or other hardware trade-offs.

App setup and smart-home controls

Roborock says the OmniGrip arm is disabled by default. Users can enable or disable it, choose which objects it should interact with, configure destinations, manually control the arm and chassis, and label additional objects through the app.

The app is therefore central to the feature. “Organizing” is not an entirely automatic process: the robot needs supported object recognition and suitable destinations. Firmware updates may also change recognition and handling behavior.

Roborock says voice control works with Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri and Google Home. Matter support was described as planned through a future OTA update, so buyers should check the current regional firmware and app documentation rather than assume Matter is already active.

Safety and privacy considerations

Safety

Roborock lists a weight sensor, a physical emergency button, child-lock functionality and a gentle-grip design. It also says the arm can be manually reversed to release an object.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those features do not make the arm risk-free around children or pets. Users should configure the child lock, supervise initial operation and use the physical pause or emergency control if a child, pet or valuable object approaches the mechanism. The 300-gram limit should be treated as a firm operating boundary, not as a suggestion to test heavier items.

Privacy

The Z70 uses cameras for object detection and arm operation. Roborock says camera functions are off by default and operate only when permitted by the user. The company also says the product complies with ETSI 303 645 through TÜV and that it does not share collected data with third parties.

These are Roborock’s own security and privacy claims, not an independent guarantee that eliminates the need to review app permissions, account settings and regional privacy terms.

Is the robotic arm useful?

The answer depends on the kind of clutter in the home.

It makes the most sense for:

  • Homes where socks, tissues, sandals and similar light objects regularly block cleaning.
  • Buyers already considering a premium robot vacuum and willing to configure an app.
  • Users comfortable with camera-dependent features, firmware updates and designated object destinations.
  • People who value a low-profile robot with an unusual automation feature.

It is a poor fit for:

  • Buyers seeking the best conventional cleaning performance per dollar.
  • Homes dominated by cables, toys, pet waste, heavy clutter or unsupported objects.
  • Privacy-sensitive users unwilling to use a camera-equipped robot.
  • Anyone expecting a general-purpose household assistant.
  • Anyone who needs a robot immediately while the official store reports no stock.

The central trade-off is more automation versus more complexity. The arm could reduce the need to clear a few lightweight obstacles, but it introduces additional mechanical, software and maintenance dependencies. Its value is highest when the same kinds of supported objects repeatedly obstruct cleaning; it is much lower when the clutter is heavy, unpredictable or unsuitable for pickup.

Bottom line

The Roborock Saros Z70 is more than a CES concept: it is a mass-produced robot vacuum and mop with a real foldable arm. But the OmniGrip is a light-duty floor-clutter mechanism, not a household manipulator. Its stated under-300-gram limit, two-pass workflow, app setup and camera-dependent recognition define what it can realistically do.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the right home, it could make automated cleaning more tolerant of scattered socks and similar items. For everyone else, the arm is likely to be a premium convenience rather than a replacement for putting things away.
