Samsung’s CES 2024 video presents Ballie as a rolling AI home companion: it moves between rooms, follows people, projects video and information, controls connected appliances, answers calls, and sends updates about pets or family. It is not a robot vacuum, humanoid housekeeper, or currently confirmed retail product. Samsung announced a planned U.S. and South Korean launch for summer 2025, but as of August 18, 2026, no ordinary retail release, price, or checkout listing had been confirmed.

What the CES 2024 video shows
Samsung introduced the redesigned Ballie ahead of CES 2024 on January 8, 2024, describing it as an updated version of the concept first shown at CES 2020. The company’s film is a scripted demonstration of intended use, not an independent test of a shipping device.
Room-to-room movement
Ballie autonomously drives through the home and is shown following residents. Samsung presents mobility as the reason to put the camera, microphone, projector and assistant functions on wheels rather than in a stationary smart display.
#1 Best Overall
- PRECISE NAVIGATION: LiDAR sensors create accurate room maps for the Jet Bot plus to navigate so no worrying about your robotic vacuum going to places it shouldn’t; Mapping can also be controlled via the Samsung SmartThings App
- INTELLIGENT POWER CONTROL: Jet Bot plus identifies the surface type and amount of dust and automatically adjusts suction so you get a thorough clean no matter the floor type
- AUTOMATIC EMPTYING WITH CLEANSTATION: A convenient, no-touch, hygienic way to empty your robot vacuum’s dustbin; Clean Station removes dust using Air Pulse technology
- CLEANER AIR: Advanced 5-layer HEPA filtration system traps up to 99.99% of dust
- CHOOSE WHERE YOU CLEAN: Select where Jet Bot should or should not clean by choosing specific areas of your home to clean with Select and Go
Projection for information and entertainment
The video depicts Ballie projecting schedules, weather, workout video and other media onto walls or floors. The CES Innovation Awards description says the system can detect a suitable surface and adjust the image, with projected controls intended to support actions such as pausing, zooming and selecting. Those are described capabilities, not verified performance across every surface or lighting condition.
Smart-home control and communication
Samsung shows Ballie controlling connected appliances, playing music and answering phone calls. It is also depicted sending video updates so a user can check on pets or loved ones while away, and presenting schedules and events when residents return home.

Ballie is different from a robot vacuum
A robot vacuum’s primary job is floor mapping and cleaning. Ballie’s proposed value is mobile interaction: it carries a display, projector, camera, microphone and voice interface into different rooms, while acting as a control point for compatible smart-home devices. The CES material does not establish object manipulation, cooking, laundry, cleaning or other physical chores.

What hardware has been reported
Ballie has a ball-shaped rolling body. Contemporary hands-on coverage from TechCrunch identified spatial LiDAR for navigation and a 1080p projector with two lenses. The CES listing also describes a two-projector configuration. Samsung did not publish a complete public specification sheet in the cited announcements, so battery capacity, runtime, dimensions, processor, final sensors and production specifications should not be assumed from the demonstration hardware.

How autonomous is it?
Samsung says Ballie can drive around the home and adapt to users’ patterns and habits; the CES listing says it can follow users. The video does not establish reliable operation around stairs, thresholds, cables, clutter, pets, children, multiple occupants, poor lighting or an unreliable Wi-Fi connection. It also does not show Ballie independently carrying out complex physical work.
What changed with Google Gemini?
On April 9, 2025, Samsung and Google Cloud announced that Gemini would be integrated into Ballie. Samsung said Gemini would work with Samsung language models and Ballie’s audio, camera and environmental-sensor inputs. Proposed uses included natural conversation, visual and audio understanding, proactive home assistance, schedule and reminder personalization, lighting adjustments, greeting visitors and health or wellness suggestions.

Gemini was announced more than a year after the CES 2024 film; it should not be presented as technology demonstrated in that original video. The announcement described intended functions, not capabilities available in a released consumer unit. Health suggestions are not medical diagnosis or professional care.
Was Ballie ever available to buy?
| Date | What Samsung or later reporting established |
|---|---|
| January 8–9, 2024 | Samsung showed the redesigned Ballie at CES 2024 and released the promotional “A Day in the Life” material. |
| April 9, 2025 | Samsung and Google Cloud announced Gemini integration and said Ballie was intended for U.S. and South Korean consumers in summer 2025; no price was provided. Samsung announcement. |
| January 2026 | Later reporting said the launch had not occurred and was effectively shelved or indefinitely postponed. Ars Technica report. |
| August 18, 2026 | No verified Samsung purchase page, final price or normal retail launch was found. A Samsung Community post characterized the project as postponed and an “active innovation platform,” but that is not a standalone formal cancellation notice. Community post. |
Samsung’s regional project page remains at samsung.com/sec/projectors/home-robot-ballie, but an information page is not evidence of U.S. retail availability.
Important limitations before treating the video as a product review
- Privacy: A roaming camera, microphone and cloud-connected AI raise questions about recording, retention, guests and children that the promotional film does not answer.
- Navigation safety: Performance on stairs, clutter, cables, pets, thresholds and changing light was not established.
- Projection: Brightness and legibility depend on distance, surface, ambient light, viewing angle and obstructions; “projects anywhere” is not a supported claim.
- Connectivity and ecosystem: Appliance control would depend on compatible SmartThings devices, accounts, network access and regional support.
- Unpublished ownership details: Price, battery life, subscriptions, support, safety certification and final software requirements were not confirmed.
- Monitoring is not security protection: Video updates about a pet or family member do not make Ballie a certified alarm system or a substitute for dedicated cameras.
Who might want this concept?
Ballie’s mobile projector and companion model could appeal to smart-home enthusiasts, households invested in Samsung’s ecosystem, people interested in room-to-room workout or call content, and early adopters comfortable with unproven hardware. For a single function, a simpler device is usually more predictable:
- Cleaning and floor mapping: a robot vacuum, such as Samsung’s robot-vacuum range at Samsung.com.
- Appliance automation: SmartThings-compatible devices and routines at SmartThings.
- Pet or family checks: a dedicated indoor camera.
- Calls, schedules and media: a fixed smart display, tablet or conventional projector.
Bottom line
Ballie was a genuine Samsung prototype and an ambitious CES vision: a mobile smart-home interface that can follow users, project content and connect household devices. Samsung later proposed Gemini-powered conversation and a 2025 launch, but the evidence available on August 18, 2026 does not support calling it a normally purchasable product. Treat the CES film as Samsung’s proposed experience, not proof of final specifications, reliability or availability.
