At CES 2019, Kohler showcased the Numi 2.0 Intelligent Toilet, a luxury toilet with embedded Amazon Alexa, bidet cleansing, heated seating, automatic operation, lighting and built-in speakers. It was a product announcement—not evidence that the toilet was immediately available everywhere. Contemporary coverage put its expected price at about $8,000, while Kohler’s current product page asks buyers to contact the company for project pricing.
What Kohler actually showed at CES 2019
The product was the Kohler Numi 2.0 Intelligent Toilet, part of the company’s KOHLER Konnect connected-home range. Kohler described it as a premium bathroom system combining personal cleansing and comfort features with voice control, sound and lighting. Its CES announcement said Amazon Alexa was embedded in the toilet.

That distinction matters: Numi 2.0 was one specific model, not a feature Kohler promised across all of its smart toilets. Kohler’s comparison chart identifies integrated Alexa and speakers with Numi 2.0, rather than the entire lineup.
What Alexa could do—and what that does not mean
Kohler presented Alexa as more than a music player: its announcement described using voice to control toilet features and personalized settings, as well as asking for ordinary assistant functions such as weather, traffic and news. Later Kohler product information also describes control of connected smart-home devices.

Voice was one interface among several. The product was also designed to work with the KOHLER Konnect app, a remote and sensors. Kohler’s announcement does not provide a complete command list, so it does not establish that every operation could be performed by voice. Nor does Alexa make the toilet independent of electricity, network services or an Amazon account.
The toilet’s practical features
The more substantial part of Numi 2.0’s proposition was its integrated cleansing and comfort equipment. Kohler’s product specifications describe:

- An emergency-flush feature rated by Kohler for up to 100 flushes during a power outage. This is not a claim that heating, cleansing, lighting or Alexa continues to work without power.
Kohler lists dual-flush options of 0.8 or 1.0 gallons per flush (about 3.0 or 3.8 liters). That documents flush-water use; by itself it does not establish the toilet’s overall environmental impact.

Numi 2.0 was also designed as a sensory bathroom fixture. Kohler describes integrated speakers, wireless music streaming, surround and dynamic lighting, customizable colors and preset experiences. Its original announcement lists the speaker frequency range at approximately 78 Hz to 20 kHz. These extras help explain the product’s luxury positioning, but they are separate from the toilet’s core cleansing function.

CES-era price versus current pricing
WIRED reported an approximate $8,000 price and a planned fourth-quarter 2019 release in its CES 2019 coverage. Treat that as a historical reported figure, not a confirmed current price or a complete installed-cost estimate; the report does not establish whether installation, electrical work, taxes or other project costs were included.
Kohler’s current Numi 2.0 product page still provides specifications but directs visitors to contact the company for project pricing. It indicates selected-location availability, so buyers should confirm the exact model and service coverage in their market before planning a purchase.

Installation is a plumbing and electrical project
Kohler lists a standard 12-inch rough-in and a dedicated 120-volt, 15-amp, 60-Hz GFCI circuit. The listed package includes the toilet, seat, supply stop valve, inlet hose, power cord and remote. A bathroom with no suitable outlet may need electrical work; an extension cord is not a substitute for the specified circuit.
Before ordering, have the site checked for rough-in, water-supply position, clearances, door swing and access for future service. A plumber can verify the fixture and connections; a licensed electrician can assess the required circuit. Include those trades and any alterations in the total project estimate rather than treating the toilet as a plug-and-play appliance.

How the announcement fits Kohler’s later timeline
- January 2019: Kohler showcased Numi 2.0 at CES.
- February 2019: Kohler announced Eir, Veil and Karing 2.0 models for the U.S. market in a separate lineup announcement.
- CES 2020: Kohler identified Numi 2.0 as a CES 2020 Innovation Awards honoree in its award announcement. It should not be described as a CES 2019 award winner.
- Current documentation: Kohler continues to publish product specifications, while directing customers to request project pricing and confirm location-specific availability.
Who is Numi 2.0 for?
Numi 2.0 makes the most sense in a high-end renovation where the owner specifically wants an integrated combination of bidet functions, automation, lighting, audio and Alexa. It is a much harder fit for a budget bathroom, a rental, a room without electrical access or someone who mainly wants bidet cleansing.
Buyers should also consider the ongoing ownership questions that come with a complex connected fixture: service and parts availability, water-quality maintenance, network and account dependence, and the privacy trade-offs of an Alexa-enabled device in a bathroom. Kohler’s product information establishes the stated features and installation requirements, but prospective buyers should obtain current warranty, service and privacy details for their location before committing.
For a less elaborate project, Kohler lists other smart toilets and bidet seats on its smart-toilet lineup and smart-home page. Models differ: do not assume a Veil, Eir, Innate or bidet seat includes Numi’s Alexa speakers and lighting. A bidet seat may avoid replacing the full toilet, but bowl compatibility and electrical needs still require checking.
