Find the full model number before troubleshooting
Carrier advises owners to have the model number available when troubleshooting or requesting service. Find it on the furnace nameplate or in the owner paperwork, then record the complete model and series. Also note whether the furnace is installed in an upflow or downflow/horizontal configuration. Carrier’s product-literature page offers model-based document lookup and directs owners to its dealer network for service.
The documentation distinguishes the 58WAV upflow family from the 58ZAV downflow/horizontal family. Their manuals are not interchangeable just because both use the WeatherMaker 8000 name. The 58WAV installation manual covers sizes 045–155, series 151; the service and maintenance document covers 58WAV/58ZAV models, sizes 045–155, series 150 and 160. Match the manual to the full model and series on your unit.
Try these basic checks first
- Check the thermostat. Confirm it is set to heating and that the setpoint is above the current room temperature. If the thermostat display or settings are unclear, consult its own instructions.
- Inspect the accessible air filter. If it is dirty, replace or clean it as specified for your installation and by the filter manufacturer. Use the size and type specified for the furnace installation; there is no single filter dimension established for every WeatherMaker 8000.
- Observe the furnace only from a safe position. If the status light is visible without removing a safety panel, note its pattern and what the furnace does during startup. Do not open panels to access a light or component.
Carrier’s service and maintenance document includes filter care for the covered 58WAV/58ZAV models. Follow the instructions for your specific unit rather than assuming a filter size or maintenance detail applies universally.

Use the status light only with the matching documentation
The 58WAV product data describes a microprocessor control board with a status indicator and self-test functions that monitor furnace operation and check major components, including the inducer, silicon-carbide ignition, and blower. That does not make a generic fault-code chart reliable for every furnace carrying the WeatherMaker 8000 name.
Read the status pattern against the code label on your furnace and the manual for its exact model, series, and control configuration. If the label is missing, unreadable, or the code does not clearly match, give the model number and the light pattern you observed to a qualified technician or Carrier dealer rather than guessing.

When to stop and call an HVAC technician
Stop homeowner troubleshooting if the furnace repeatedly shuts down or locks out, the code is uncertain, or the apparent problem involves ignition, combustion, gas supply, venting, pressure or limit controls, or electrical measurements. These systems require diagnosis beyond visible checks. Carrier directs owners seeking service toward its dealer network.
- Do not bypass a switch or other safety control.
- Do not repeatedly reset a furnace that continues to lock out.
- Do not adjust gas pressure or test live electrical circuits.

The 58WAV product data identifies silicon-carbide ignition, but that does not establish one replacement ignitor part number for every WeatherMaker 8000. Before ordering any part, verify compatibility against the complete model number, series, control configuration, and an authoritative parts cross-reference—or ask a qualified technician to confirm the fit.
