Bunnings temporarily transformed its Cannington store in Western Australia into Hammerbarn, the fictional hardware store from Bluey, in February 2024. The event was one of seven store makeovers across Australia and New Zealand, with themed merchandise and bookable children’s workshops. Bunnings later said its 2024 Bluey gnomes “flew off the shelves,” but published no sales count or exact sell-out time.
What was the Cannington Hammerbarn makeover?
For a limited-time event in February 2024, Bunnings dressed its Cannington store as Hammerbarn, the hardware store visited by the Heeler family in the Bluey episode of the same name. Bunnings described the makeover as including Hammerbarn signage, team-member aprons and children’s trolleys. The activation was developed with BBC Studios Australia & New Zealand and Ludo Studio. Bunnings’ announcement named Cannington among seven participating locations.
The other stores were Blacktown, Carrum Downs, Keperra, Munno Para West and Glenorchy in Australia, and Glenfield in New Zealand. The transformation was an event, not a permanent change to the Cannington store.
Why is the fictional store called Hammerbarn?
In the Bluey episode “Hammerbarn,” the Heeler family visits a fictional hardware store. Bunnings says the episode draws on the Australian tradition of a weekend trip to Bunnings; its Hammerbarn FAQ says the fictional store’s exterior was inspired by Bunnings Warehouse in Keperra, Queensland. That real-world connection made a temporary Hammerbarn makeover a natural fit for the promotion.

What could families do at the event?
The 2024 activation combined store theming with retail and family activities. Bunnings offered Bluey products and Hammerbarn-branded merchandise, alongside free, bookable Bluey-themed Kids D.I.Y. workshops on weekends. Workshop places were bookable, so the offer was not simply a drop-in activity.
Did the Bluey merchandise sell out quickly?
Bunnings General Manager Marketing Justine Mills said in a 29 July 2025 company release: “It’s clear how much fans connect with the show given how quickly last year’s Bluey gnomes flew off the shelves.” The statement supports describing demand for the 2024 gnomes as strong, but it is an attributed company comment, not a published sales statistic.

- Bunnings did not give a number of gnomes sold or say how long they took to sell through.
- No Cannington-only sales figure or comparison among the seven locations was published in the reviewed official material.
- The remark concerns the gnomes, not every Bluey or Hammerbarn product sold during the event.
So “sold out fast” is best read as a qualitative description of the gnomes’ popularity, not a measured timeframe or a claim that all merchandise disappeared from Cannington.
Was there another Hammerbarn promotion in 2025?
Yes, but it was different from the February 2024 store makeover. Bunnings’ 2025 campaign did not rebrand store exteriors. Instead, it offered merchandise, scavenger hunts, themed trolleys and workshops. A Bunnings release dated 29 July 2025 said that a new range—including Bluey and Bingo bedroom items and Hammerbarn-branded accessories—would be available from 30 July, with some items available while stocks lasted. Those dated offers should not be mistaken for merchandise from the Cannington event or assumed to remain available.

The official Bluey campaign FAQ described the 2024 transformations as a special event and said no further store transformations were planned at the time that page was published. That statement is time-bound; it does not establish whether a later event has since been announced.

Bunnings’ Bluey catalogue, accessed 8 October 2026, lists physical merchandise including Bluey garden gnomes, toys and a Hammerbarn insulated drink bottle. Listings, prices and stock can change, so check the current product page or contact a local store for availability. The catalogue does not establish that the limited-edition Hammerbarn items from the 2024 event are currently available, or that they can be bought from another retailer.

The 2025 campaign FAQ said its gnomes were sold in store while stocks lasted and set a four-gnome-per-customer limit for that return. That was a specific 2025 policy, not a standing rule for current or future sales.
