Yes—but only frameless or flexible solar modules designed for adhesive rooftop mounting, and only on roof surfaces approved for that system. The panel, adhesive, roof material, surface preparation and attachment method must be treated as one specified installation, not as a reason to glue an ordinary panel to any roof.
How direct-bonded solar panels are attached
Some frameless and flexible photovoltaic modules use structural adhesive to bond to a roof without conventional panel frames or penetrating fasteners. For example, ZKFN SOLAR describes its SolarPega and SolarPegaL light-rigid modules as glue-bonded products, with direct bonding limited to compatible roof structures (ZKFN SOLAR product information). That is a manufacturer description of particular products—not evidence that frameless construction alone makes a panel suitable for bonding.
Amerisolar USA’s 2024 flexible-module installation manual describes adhesive installation on flat roofs, curved surfaces and trapezoidal steel tiles. It calls for a support-approved structural adhesive and additional support for some uneven roof profiles (Amerisolar USA installation manual). The approved surface, adhesive, preparation and installation steps depend on the specific module and roof system.
Which roof surfaces can work?
Roof shape and material affect whether a proposed bond is suitable. Amerisolar’s manual identifies flat roofs, curved surfaces and trapezoidal steel tiles for its described adhesive installation, but says some uneven profiles—including angle-flanged or vertically locked steel tile—need an additional support system. These examples are not a universal approval for every roof of those types; check the exact module documentation for the roof profile in question.

Roof membranes need particular care. A non-penetrating attachment does not automatically mean the roof manufacturer accepts direct adhesive bonding. Sika’s Solar Roof Mount-2, for example, is a welded, non-penetrating mounting system designed for compatible FPO and PVC membranes. It is an alternative mounting approach, not a system for gluing a panel directly to the roof (SikaRoof Solar Mount-2).
Why the adhesive and installation method matter
Structural adhesive is part of the designed attachment system. Use only the adhesive and process specified or approved for the module and roof assembly. Scott Bader describes primerless MMA structural adhesives for bonding traditional and flexible solar panels to roof structures, but that product information does not establish compatibility with every panel or roofing material (Scott Bader solar-installation adhesives). Household glue or an unapproved substitute is not a documented equivalent.

“No holes” is not the same as “warranty safe.” Confirm that the roof manufacturer and PV supplier accept the proposed attachment, substrate preparation and any effect on roof maintenance or repair. A bonded panel may also make later access or removal more involved; ask how the roof and module can be serviced before installation.
What to verify before choosing a bonded system
- Module approval: Confirm that the exact panel model is designed for adhesive mounting, rather than assuming frameless panels can all be bonded.
- Roof compatibility: Identify the roof material and profile, and check the permitted substrates, surface condition and preparation steps in the module and roof-system documentation.
- Specified adhesive and process: Confirm the approved adhesive, application procedure and any supplementary support required for the roof profile.
- Roof warranty and maintenance: Get acceptance from the relevant roof and PV manufacturers, and establish how future repairs, inspection or panel removal will work.
- Project review and approvals: Have qualified professionals assess project-specific structural, electrical, fire, wind and permitting requirements. Those requirements depend on the project and jurisdiction.
- Other attachment options: Where suitable, compare bonded panels with welded mounts for compatible membrane roofs, seam clamps for suitable metal roofs, or roof-integrated systems. Each has its own roof compatibility and installation requirements.
What product claims do—and do not—tell you
Manufacturers publish specifications and performance claims for particular products. ZKFN SOLAR lists 510–520 W for SolarPega and 490–510 W for SolarPegaL; these are that manufacturer’s product specifications, not a general output range for bonded frameless panels (ZKFN SOLAR product information). Likewise, wind, load, fire, service-life and warranty statements should be assessed for the named product and installation conditions, not applied to adhesive mounting as a whole.

The available product and installation information does not establish typical service life or wind performance for bonded frameless solar panels across brands. Nor does it determine local code, fire, electrical, structural, permitting or warranty requirements for a particular roof. Those questions need answers for the selected system and location.
