According to Bzigo, it uses infrared sensing, computer vision and a laser marker to identify and locate suspected mosquitoes, then sends an alert to your phone. You still have to find and remove the insect yourself.
That makes Iris potentially useful in a bedroom where one hidden mosquito is difficult to find—but it does not replace window screens, bed nets, repellents, standing-water removal or other established control measures. At the listed price of $299, the key question is whether locating a mosquito is worth paying a premium for.

What Bzigo Iris actually does
Bzigo Iris is a plug-in device designed to monitor an indoor room for mosquitoes. The company says it uses infrared illumination, a camera-based vision system and algorithms that analyze mosquito-like movement. When it detects a suspected mosquito, it marks the location with a visible laser and can notify connected smartphones through the Bzigo app.

The practical workflow is:
Detect → mark → notify → manually eliminate.
Iris does not appear to include a built-in killing mechanism. Bzigo’s product information describes detection, tracking, laser marking and alerts—not automatic extermination. The company separately sells an electric swatter, which reinforces the intended Iris-plus-manual-removal workflow.

- INSTANTLY KILLS - 3,000V grid instantly zaps flies, mosquitos
- SECURE - Dual safety trigger with metal mesh prevents accidental electric discharge.
- ANTI-SLIP - 2 groove lines are designed in the handle to avoid throwing it out
- POWERED BY 2AA - No rechargable aging problem
- WARM NOTE - Better to remove batteries to make its life longer when out of use
In plain terms, Bzigo Iris is a mosquito-finding device. It helps you locate the insect; it does not replace the final swatting or removal step.
Bzigo’s official product page and homepage describe the technology and its intended use.
How the detection process works
- The device observes the room continuously.
- Infrared sensing is intended to let it operate in low light and complete darkness.
- Computer-vision software analyzes visual information and movement patterns that Bzigo associates with mosquitoes.
- When the system detects a suspected mosquito, it activates a laser marker.
- The app can send an alert to connected smartphones.
- You go to the marked area and remove the mosquito with a swatter, vacuum, tissue or another suitable method.
It is important to separate three different claims:
- Detection: the system believes it has seen a mosquito.
- Localization: the laser indicates where the system believes the insect is.
- Control: the mosquito is actually removed or killed.
The first two functions are attributed to Iris itself. The third still depends on human action or a separate tool.
Does Bzigo Iris kill mosquitoes?
There is no evidence in the supplied official material that Iris kills mosquitoes by itself. It marks suspected mosquitoes and sends alerts. The user must still act on the alert.
This distinction matters because “mosquito control” can suggest prevention or elimination. Iris may reduce the time spent searching for an individual insect, but it does not automatically remove mosquitoes, stop them entering a room or prevent a bite before someone responds.

Bzigo’s separate electric swatter was listed at $49.90 when the product catalog was captured, although the same catalog also showed it as sold out. It should not be assumed to be included with the $299 Iris device. See the official product collection for current pricing and availability.
What “AI-powered” means here
Bzigo describes Iris as using AI algorithms, computer vision, infrared sensing and mosquito movement patterns. That explains the company’s claimed approach, but “AI-powered” does not establish how accurate the system is.
The publicly available information reviewed for this article does not provide:
- Detection sensitivity or specificity.
- False-positive and false-negative rates.
- Performance data by mosquito species.
- A benchmark dataset.
- Independent blinded testing.
- A detailed model architecture.
- Quantified tracking latency or location accuracy.
Accordingly, AI should be treated as a description of the technology, not a guarantee that every mosquito will be detected correctly.
Coverage, placement and room suitability
Bzigo claims that Iris can cover rooms of up to 40 square metres, or approximately 430 square feet, and recommends multiple units for larger spaces. This is a manufacturer-stated operating claim, not an independently verified detection standard.

Bzigo’s support instructions recommend:
- Placing Iris in a corner away from busy areas.
- Avoiding people or objects that block its view.
- Positioning it approximately 60 inches, or 150 centimetres, from the ceiling.
- Aiming it toward the centre of the ceiling.
- Using the included tripod on a flat surface or the wall-mount adapter.
A bedroom may be a more practical test environment than a crowded living room. A device hidden behind furniture or aimed across obstructions cannot compensate for mosquitoes outside its visible area.
Setup and connectivity
The basic setup path described by Bzigo is:
- Place Iris in a corner with a clear view.
- Connect the included power adapter.
- Download the Bzigo app using the QR code on the box or through the relevant app store.
- Follow the in-app pairing instructions.
- Connect Iris to Wi-Fi.
- Test laser marking and alerts.
- Add other household smartphones if required.
Before relying on it, check that:
- The device has power and shows the expected status.
- The phone is connected to the supported network during setup.
- Operating-system notifications are enabled.
- App sound settings are not muted.
- Iris appears correctly in the app.
- A second household member receives shared alerts if sharing is needed.
Bzigo’s FAQ says detections reach the smartphone through Wi-Fi. The company also says Iris now has an offline travel mode. Those are different claims: local device operation may be possible offline, but you should not assume every alert, cloud or app feature remains available without Wi-Fi. Confirm the current limitations in the official FAQ before buying.
Bzigo says multiple smartphones can connect to one Iris, while one smartphone can connect to multiple Iris devices. The app presents devices separately and identifies the location associated with a detection. Hardware operation and app availability can also vary by country; for example, Bzigo says the device can detect, activate its laser and produce an audible alert in China while its mobile app is not supported there.

Will it work in the dark?
Bzigo claims Iris works in daylight and complete darkness using infrared sensing and illumination. Darkness alone, however, does not guarantee reliable detection. The device still needs an unobstructed view, and reflective surfaces, moving objects, pets and other insects may affect what the system sees.
The company’s claim should therefore be understood as an operating capability, not a promise of equal accuracy in every nighttime room.
Accuracy and real-world evidence
The main limitation for a $299 purchase is the lack of robust independent performance data. The public material does not establish how often Iris detects a mosquito, how often it misses one or how precisely the laser identifies the insect’s position.
Rank #4
- Dual Attraction Technology: The fan and blue light work together in this portable bug trap to attract and trap mosquitoes, fruit flies and house flies
- Powerful Fly & Mosquito Trap: Perfect for areas of your home where insects are present, this bug catcher quietly controls pests so you can enjoy a peaceful space
- Customizable Settings: Use the touch display to select your ideal fan speed and set a timer for 3, 8, or 12 hours, or opt for continuous 24/7 operation
- Indoor Pest Control: Includes 5 mess-free glue traps and a 6-foot cord, offering portability for easy setup in your home or enclosed patio
- How It Works: Flying insects are attracted by the discreet UV light, while the quiet fan pulls them into the device where pests are captured on the sticky glue trap; Replace glue card when full
Anecdotal reports are mixed. Reddit discussions include users describing accurate detections, as well as reports of false detections, missed mosquitoes and uncertainty about how the laser indicates location. Those accounts can illustrate possible experiences, but they are not controlled testing.
The Apple App Store listing showed a rating of 1.2 out of 5 from five ratings when captured, including a complaint that the device was always offline. Five ratings are far too few to estimate general reliability, but the signal is still worth considering before purchase. The Apple listing and Google Play listing describe the app’s functions and availability.
False positives and false negatives matter in different ways. A false positive may send you searching for an insect that is not a mosquito. A false negative may be worse because it can leave you believing the room is clear when a mosquito remains. Bzigo’s publicly available information does not provide rates for either problem.
Laser and household safety
Bzigo says Iris uses a Class 1, eye-safe laser and states that it adheres to EN 60825-1 and FDA/CDRH laser-safety standards. These are the manufacturer’s claims and should be treated as such rather than as an independent certification by this article.
Basic precautions remain sensible:
- Do not deliberately stare into the beam.
- Do not modify the device.
- Keep children and pets from treating it as a toy.
- Follow the product’s labeling and manual.
Bzigo markets Iris as chemical-free and suitable for homes with children and pets. In this context, chemical-free means the device does not spray or vaporize insecticide. It does not mean the room is mosquito-free, prevent bites or provide the same protection as a physical barrier or registered repellent.

Privacy and camera-related questions
Iris uses a camera and visual sensing to monitor its surroundings, so buyers should review Bzigo’s current privacy documentation and app permissions before connecting it. The material supplied for this article does not establish what visual data is stored, how long it is retained, whether processing is entirely local or what information is transmitted to company servers. Those details should not be assumed.
Best Value
- GOLD ZONE 3400V — CALIBRATED POWER, CLEAN CONTACT — Many fly zappers are either too weak (bugs wriggle free) or so strong that bugs burst and scatter debris. Our 3400V electric fly swatter is built around the Gold Zone: small pests like mosquitoes, flies, fruit flies, and gnats drop in about a second on contact; larger insects like wasps and hornets take 3 to 5 seconds of held contact. Calibrated to make contact clean, with no splatter flung across walls or counters.
- DENSEST 3 MM MESH WITH EXTRA-WIDE 8.6-INCH HEAD — MORE CONTACT AREA PER SWING — The tighter the mesh, the more likely every swing connects: our 3 mm grid is the densest available, so even tiny fruit flies and gnats meet the electrified wires instead of slipping through the gaps. Paired with an 8.6-inch wide racket head, each swing covers more area. Built for use on mosquitoes, house flies, fruit flies, gnats, moths, wasps, hornets, and stink bugs.
- APPLE-LIGHT 7.5 OZ — ONE-HAND SWING, LESS ARM FATIGUE — This handheld bug zapper racket weighs just 7.5 oz, so you can swing faster, react quicker, and connect more often. Light enough to handle with one hand — hold your coffee, carry your plate, or hold your child with the other. Comfortable to use even during a long backyard barbecue or an evening clearing mosquitoes from the bedroom before sleep.
- 5-LAYER GRID DESIGN — BUILT WITH FAMILIES IN MIND — The 5-layer design encloses the inner high-voltage grid behind a touch-spaced outer mesh, keeping fingers away from the electrified wires. A purely physical, contact-based design — no sprays, no liquids, no glue, nothing to refill. A practical pick for households with children and pets who want handheld mosquito and fly control in the living room, bedroom, office, nursery, or kitchen. Keep away from children under 8 unless supervised.
- GRAB-AND-GO — AA BATTERY, ONE BUTTON, ZERO COMPLEXITY — See a bug, grab it, press the button, swing — react in seconds, no setup needed. No charging, no mode switching, no settings to adjust. This battery operated fly zapper runs on 2 AA batteries (not included) that swap in seconds and are available at any store. Unlike rechargeable rackets that die mid-use, this one is ready whenever you are. An LED indicator confirms power at a glance. No cords, no cables, no outlets.
Price, availability, returns and warranty
The official pages captured for this article listed Bzigo Iris at $299 USD. They also showed conflicting availability information: the product page indicated that it could be ordered but warned of extended delivery because of high demand, while the collection page displayed “Sold out.” Check the current product page before paying, particularly if delivery timing matters.
Bzigo’s FAQ says products are sold exclusively through its website. It also lists a 60-day return policy and a one-year limited warranty. Before checkout, confirm:
- Whether the device is actually in stock.
- The expected delivery time to your country.
- Whether shipping, duties and taxes are included.
- When the 60-day return period begins.
- Who pays return shipping.
- Whether the warranty applies internationally.
- Whether the app works in your country.
- Whether the power adapter suits your electrical system.
- What happens if the app or cloud service is unavailable.

That depends on the problem you are trying to solve. Iris’s differentiator is locating an individual indoor mosquito without spraying chemicals. It is not a universal replacement for passive barriers or measures that reduce mosquito populations.
| Option | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Window and door screens | Preventing mosquitoes from entering | Requires installation and does not remove insects already indoors |
| Bed nets | Passive overnight sleeping protection | Protects the sleeping area rather than the entire room |
| Registered topical repellents | Reducing personal exposure | Requires correct application and reapplication |
| Standing-water removal | Reducing local breeding sources | Requires repeated property inspections |
| Electric swatter | Direct manual elimination | You must first locate the mosquito |
| UV traps and zappers | Some passive flying-insect situations | UV attraction does not necessarily target biting mosquitoes |
| Sprays and vapour products | Rapid knockdown or repellent action where label-approved | Requires attention to exposure, ventilation and label restrictions |
Screens and bed nets can prevent contact without requiring a phone alert. Repellents can reduce landings. Source reduction addresses breeding areas. An electric swatter is much cheaper and kills an insect once you find it. Iris is most distinctive when the problem is a single hidden mosquito and the buyer values automated searching more than low cost.
Who should buy Bzigo Iris?
Iris may make sense if:
- Your main problem is an occasional mosquito hiding in a bedroom.
- You prefer a chemical-free detection aid.
- You are willing to kill or remove the insect manually after an alert.
- The room fits within the manufacturer’s claimed coverage area.
- You can place the device with a clear view.
- Wi-Fi and smartphone notifications are acceptable.
- You are comfortable paying a premium for convenience and novelty.
- The return policy gives you enough time for a careful trial.
It is a poor fit if:
- You expect an automatic mosquito killer.
- You need whole-home, outdoor or property-wide control.
- You require guaranteed bite prevention.
- The room is cluttered or heavily obstructed.
- Wi-Fi or phone notifications are unreliable.
- No one can respond to alerts.
- You require strong independent accuracy data before buying.
- You are unwilling to pay $299 for detection rather than elimination.
Final verdict
Bzigo Iris is best understood as a premium mosquito locator. Bzigo claims that it can detect and mark suspected mosquitoes in rooms up to 40 square metres, including in darkness, but the user still has to respond and remove the insect. Its value therefore depends on placement, connectivity, detection reliability and your willingness to act on alerts.
Buy it only if that specific convenience is worth $299 and you accept the limited independent performance evidence and uncertain availability signals. For preventing bites or reducing mosquitoes more broadly, start with screens, bed nets, repellents and source reduction rather than treating Iris as a complete control system.
