A 2024 Successful Farming feature documents one farmer’s solution: John Allen mounted a three-point snowblower on his loader and drove it with a hydraulic motor. It is a useful design concept, not a ready-to-copy plan; the article does not include drawings, a complete materials list, or engineering validation for another tractor.
How the documented front-mount conversion works
In a feature by Cory Hall published January 31, 2024, Allen of Craig, Colorado, described moving his snowblower from the rear of his tractor to the front. He attached it to a mount on the front loader and powered it with a hydraulic motor installed directly on the blower. A rear three-point saddle carried the hydraulic oil tank and pump. The article reports these figures for Allen’s particular setup:
- A 540-speed, 40+ hp hydraulic motor at the snowblower.
- A 50-gallon oil tank carried on the rear three-point saddle.
- A 1,000-rpm pump delivering 40 gpm at 2,200 psi.
- One-inch hydraulic lines.
- An oil cooler in front of the radiator, connected to the drive motor’s return line.
These are reported details of one farmer’s machine, not specifications to apply to a different tractor or blower. The article does not provide the calculations, component selections, drawings, or structural design information needed to reproduce or adapt the setup.

Why Allen moved the blower to the front
Allen wanted to avoid operating a rear-mounted three-point snowblower while facing backward. He associated that position with neck strain, poor visibility, questionable safety, and stress. In the article, he said: “I don’t have to bend over and kneel on the seat while trying to do the snowblowing backwards. I actually enjoy the process now.”
A front mount addresses the operating position he described, but the feature does not include an independent safety assessment of his conversion or establish that a front mount is safer in every tractor configuration.

What this example does—and does not—tell you about building one
The basic concept is to support the blower at the front of the tractor and provide a drive system compatible with the blower and tractor. Allen’s version used a loader-mounted frame and a hydraulic motor, with the tank and pump carried at the rear. That arrangement is only one possible configuration; “front-mount” does not specify a universal attachment interface or power source.
The published account is not an engineering plan. It does not establish structural loads, frame dimensions, attachment details, hydraulic sizing for another machine, or validated fabrication and operating procedures. Treat the reported figures as descriptive, not as a bill of materials or build instructions. For a conversion, a qualified equipment engineer or manufacturer should assess the tractor, loader, mounting structure, blower, and hydraulic system before fabrication or use.

These examples are not interchangeable simply because each is described as front-mounted. They span different tractor classes, mount types, drive arrangements, dimensions, and weights.

Compatibility checks before choosing a build or attachment
Before adapting a rear blower or selecting a commercial unit, confirm compatibility for the exact tractor and attachment. Use the tractor and blower manufacturers’ fitment instructions, and get qualified engineering help if designing a custom mount or hydraulic system.
