The City says the closure will provide crews room to finish roadway, cycling-path and sidewalk work. The wider project runs between Commissioners Road West and Southdale Road West and is expected to continue into summer 2027.
Where construction stands
The City of London’s project page, updated October 2, 2026, divides work into three phases:
- Phase 1: Byron Baseline Road to Griffith Street — complete.
- Phase 2: Griffith Street to Southdale Road — nearing completion.
- Phase 3: Commissioners Road to Byron Baseline Road — underway.
The October closure notice is a later, more specific schedule than the City’s June 12 announcement, which said construction would begin June 15 and described a major closure between Byron Baseline Road and Griffith Street from June to October. The June notice expected the overall project to continue into summer 2027. The different limits and dates refer to notices issued at different stages; check the City’s Boler Road project page for updates before travelling, since construction dates can change.
October 13–30 closure: limits and reason
The City has announced that Boler Road will be fully closed from Byron Baseline Road to just north of Norman Avenue for approximately three weeks, October 13–30, 2026. It says a continuous closure gives crews more room to work safely and complete the roadway, cycle path and sidewalks faster, avoiding several shorter temporary closures.

What the project includes
The project covers Boler Road between Commissioners Road West and Southdale Road West. It combines underground utility replacement and road reconstruction with cycling, pedestrian, signal and transit-stop improvements.

Water and roadway work
Watermain and water services are being replaced between Byron Baseline Road and Griffith Street. Portions of the roadway are also being rebuilt.
Cycling and pedestrian changes
A two-way separated cycling facility is planned along the east boulevard between Commissioners Road West and Southdale Road West. The City lists two new pedestrian crossings: one at Optimist Park/Manhattan and another at Norman near Metro. The Wayne crossing is to be relocated to align with sidewalks.

Signals and transit stops
The Boler Road and Griffith Street traffic signal is being fully rebuilt with accessibility upgrades. Signals at Commissioners Road and Byron Baseline are to be modified to accommodate the cycling lane. The City also lists protected left turns for southbound traffic at all three intersections and improvements to transit stops.
Transit and travel planning
London Transit Commission’s August 31, 2026 report said Boler Road was closed between Griffith Street and Byron Baseline Road, detouring Route 5. It anticipated a full closure of the Boler and Byron Baseline intersection as work progressed, with a more significant detour affecting Routes 5 and 17. That report predates the City’s October update, so it is not a day-of service notice. Check London Transit service alerts and City notices before travelling for current route information.

- Type I folding barricade
- Made of polypropylene
- Recessed light bracket provides added security and is easy to mount
- Recessed panel area provides sheeting protection from scratching
- Engineer grade reflective sheeting
Tree removals and replanting
The City assessed 211 trees within the corridor. It says 62 small trees and 21 large trees must be removed, with 77 trees to be replanted within the Boler Road corridor. The City project page also states that it plants approximately 5,000 trees citywide each year; that is a citywide figure, not a Boler Road planting count.
