Why has the Boerne Buc-ee’s taken so long?
The project’s long timeline began with utility planning in 2016, after the City of Boerne and the developer entered a Chapter 380 economic development agreement. MySA reported that roadwork began briefly in February 2025, then paused while the city and developer worked toward an amended development agreement. A 2026 City of Boerne legislative record identifies a resolution amending the Buc-ee’s development agreement, but the record’s subject alone does not establish the specific terms or explain every cause of delay. What work has actually taken place?
The city says initial grading and public-infrastructure work began in February 2025. Those are early site and enabling works; they should not be confused with construction of the store itself. The site is listed as Buc-ee’s Travel Center #41 at I-10 and US 87 Business in Boerne, Kendall County. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing gives a building area of 53,471 square feet and an estimated completion date of October 1, 2024. That date is a filing projection, not evidence that the building was completed; the same record should not be read as proof that construction finished or restarted. TDLR project record
Has construction restarted?
There is no confirmation in the available city briefing or local reporting that vertical construction has restarted. The documented sequence is initial grading and public-infrastructure work in February 2025, followed by a reported pause. A 2026 resolution amending the development agreement is a later municipal milestone, but its existence alone does not confirm renewed construction activity. The clearest evidence of a restart would be a current city update, permit status showing approval for vertical work, or direct company confirmation.
