High Valley Transit (HVT) says major construction on the Bobsled Express bus rapid transit project along State Route 224 will pause for winter, with broader work scheduled to resume in spring 2027. Some local bus-stop work may continue when weather allows. HVT says traffic control will be removed and trails reopened for the winter period.
What the winter pause means
The pause is seasonal, not a cancellation. The first construction season is nearing its end, and HVT says crews will shift to weather-dependent work at local bus stops. Removing traffic control and reopening trails will change conditions along the corridor, but travelers should check HVT’s current SR-224 construction updates before setting out; detours and access arrangements can change.

According to HVT’s October 8 update, 2026 work is complete at Park Avenue and Deer Valley Drive, substantial work has taken place between Olympic Boulevard and Canyons Resort Drive, and early drainage work has begun between Kearns Boulevard and White Pine Canyon Drive. The agency also lists intersection, signal, drainage, utility, retaining-wall, and station work among the season’s accomplishments.
What is scheduled for spring 2027
HVT says the next broader construction phase is planned to begin in spring 2027. The initial roadway widening is planned for two stretches of SR-224:

Station construction is also planned. HVT says the new stations will have canopies, real-time information boards, lighting, and landscaping. Its construction update provides the agency’s current schedule and work details.
When the project may be complete
Completion and opening dates are estimates, not guaranteed dates. A TownLift report dated October 8 anticipates the overall project wrapping up in fall 2028, while HVT’s FAQ says it is anticipated to be complete and open to riders at the end of 2028. The two published descriptions differ slightly on the endpoint; check HVT announcements for schedule changes.

How to plan for corridor travel
During the 2026 construction season, portions of the multi-use trail and sidewalk were rerouted around work areas. HVT now says trails will reopen as traffic control comes down for winter. Conditions may vary by location and can change as crews undertake weather-permitting bus-stop work.

- Walking or cycling: Confirm trail and sidewalk access before traveling; earlier construction-season detour information may no longer reflect winter conditions.
- Transit: Bobsled Express is a planned service, not an operating route during this construction pause.
What Bobsled Express is planned to provide
HVT describes Bobsled Express as a future bus rapid transit service for Park City-area workers, residents, skiers, and other visitors. Its FAQ describes planned service every 10–15 minutes and says rides will be free; these are future service plans, not current operations.

The FAQ identifies four planned new BRT stations—Bobsled, Cutter, Thaynes, and Snow Creek—and improvements to existing stations at Kimball Junction, Canyons Resort, and Old Town Transit Center. It also gives an estimated project cost of $119.2 million and says $65.5 million had been secured from federal and state sources. The FAQ does not state the year for those figures and is hosted on a demo Squarespace domain, so confirm them with HVT before treating them as definitive.
That FAQ also reports an average of 4,700 daily boardings so far in 2026 on routes expected to be served by Bobsled Express, as context for a 5,000-boardings-per-day estimate. The 4,700 figure is not Bobsled Express ridership: the new service has not opened.
