TechCrunch also described Google Nest speakers and smart displays as roughly half off, but the available reporting did not establish one exact price for every model. Best inexpensive voice assistant: Echo Dot at $25
The Echo Dot was the clearest low-cost entry point. At half its reported $50 reference price, it could provide voice control, music, timers and routines in an Alexa household. The promotional extra improved the value if the buyer wanted either a Philips Hue bulb or Amazon Music Unlimited, but it should not be interpreted as receiving both benefits automatically.

The retailer circular advertised the second-generation Nest Hub at $49.99 and the Echo Show 5 at $34.99. These were unusually low prices for devices that added visual controls, recipes, cameras or monitoring features to ordinary voice-assistant functions.
Choose a display only if the screen has a purpose. A buyer who wants music, timers and voice routines may have received better value from a speaker. The Nest Hub made more sense in a Google Home household; the Echo Show 5 fit more naturally with Alexa, Ring, Blink and Fire TV.
Best inexpensive indoor camera: Blink Mini two-pack at $30
Two Blink Mini cameras for $30 was attractive for basic indoor monitoring. Engadget described 1080p video, two-way audio, motion alerts and Alexa control. The cameras were compact and wired, so they worked best in indoor locations with a nearby outlet.

They were not outdoor cameras, battery-powered cameras or a complete security system. A wired camera avoids routine battery changes but limits placement. Buyers should also check the exact model’s recording, storage and advanced-detection terms rather than assuming every feature is included without a subscription.
Best thermostat headline discount: verify the exact model first
The reported $90 Nest Thermostat was a strong nominal bargain against the cited $130 reference price, but it must not be merged with the separate promotion claiming up to $170 off the third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat. Those are different products with different controls and capabilities.
The reported Ecobee promotion, claiming up to $150 off, likewise depended on the model, retailer, location and eligibility. A large percentage discount does not make an incompatible thermostat a good purchase.

Amazon Alexa deals and ecosystem fit
The Alexa-oriented 2022 offers included the Echo Dot, Echo Show 5, Blink Mini, Ring devices and—if streaming is included in the definition of smart home—the Fire TV Stick. The ecosystem was a logical choice for households that already owned Echo speakers or wanted voice control spanning Amazon devices, Blink, Ring and Fire TV.

Ring and Blink should not be treated as interchangeable. A Ring Video Doorbell is a door-entry device; a Blink Mini is an indoor camera. A doorbell discount does not amount to a complete outdoor security or alarm system. Before buying an archived deal, the reader would have needed to identify the exact model, power method, installation requirements and whether cloud video history or advanced detection involved a paid plan.

Thermostat checks before installation
A discounted thermostat is a home-installation decision, not just a gadget purchase. Before replacing an existing thermostat, check:
- HVAC type: Confirm support for the home’s heating, cooling, heat-pump or dual-fuel system.
- Wiring and power: Check whether a C-wire or another approved power arrangement is required. Do not guess from the number of visible wires alone.
- Installation: Decide whether the work is appropriate for DIY installation or should be handled by a qualified HVAC professional.
- Sensors and features: Determine whether remote sensors are included and which energy reports, automations or remote features require an account or service.
- Exact model: Distinguish the standard Nest Thermostat from the Nest Learning Thermostat and identify the generation.
The minimum useful cost may include an installer, wiring work, sensors or other accessories. That is why the $90 Nest Thermostat and the “up to” Learning Thermostat promotion should be evaluated separately.

A bulb, plug, speaker or sensor can be a useful first step, but its advertised price may not be the total cost of a working installation. Depending on the product, the setup may need Wi-Fi, a manufacturer account, a compatible assistant app, a hub or bridge, a 2.4-GHz network, additional sensors or compatible switches.
The Echo Dot promotion’s Philips Hue option was particularly relevant to lighting buyers. Hue is aimed at buyers who value scenes, color effects and mature lighting automation. The current Philips Hue catalog shows a wider family of lights, sensors, cameras and integrations with Google Home and Alexa, but current catalog information does not rewrite the terms of the 2022 bundle. Buyers should budget for any required bridge or accessories.

How to judge whether a historical deal was genuinely good
- Audit the reference price. Determine whether it was MSRP, a former price, a temporary retailer price or a different generation’s price. “Listed reference price” is safer than assuming MSRP.
- Calculate dollar savings. A $25 reduction may matter more than a large percentage based on an inflated comparison price.
- Identify the full model. Generation, wired or battery-powered design, included accessories and single-device versus multipack status can change the value substantially.
- Check the installation environment. Confirm outlets for wired cameras, HVAC wiring for thermostats and suitable locations for sensors or switches.
- Price the useful setup. Include bridges, sensors, installation, replacement batteries and any subscription needed for the feature the buyer actually wants.
- Match the ecosystem. Existing Alexa or Google Home equipment can make one bargain more useful than another.
- Consider cloud dependence. Check what happens to recording, history and automations if a paid plan is cancelled or the vendor changes support.
Sale windows and regional limitations
