Metal blades require a blade-rated brush cutter system
A metal blade puts different demands on a tool than nylon line. The shaft, gearbox, guard and other safety hardware must be suitable, and the manufacturer must approve the blade for the exact model. A replacement blade with the right diameter or arbor is not, by itself, proof that it will fit or operate safely.

Before buying, check the manual for your exact trimmer or powerhead and confirm the complete setup: compatible attachment or blade, required guard, handle, harness and installation instructions. Avoid products described only as “universal” unless the manufacturer confirms fit for your model.

How to choose the right option
- Identify the exact model. Record the trimmer and powerhead model numbers; similar-looking tools or shared attachment systems do not guarantee blade compatibility.
- Check whether you need a complete attachment or a replacement blade. The EGO ABB1203 is a replacement blade for named EGO systems, while the WORX WA0221 and TrimmerPlus TPB720 are brush cutter attachments or kits.
- Verify the full safety setup. Confirm the manual’s blade type, guard, handle and harness requirements, plus any installation and inspection steps.
- Match the blade to the vegetation the manual permits. A metal blade is not automatically suitable for woody brush; the tool’s instructions set the limit.
Use a metal blade safely
Blade thrust is a serious loss-of-control hazard: if a spinning blade strikes something it cannot cut, the unit can suddenly push away from the contact. Clear the work area of objects that could be thrown or entangled, inspect the blade, and secure it as the exact tool manual directs. Replace damaged blades and use the specified guard; requirements vary by product.
The Ryobi operator’s manual says: “The Tri-Arc® blade is suited for cutting thicker weeds or pulpy stalks only.” It also says: “Never use the Tri-Arc® blade to cut woody brush.” Those limits apply to that Ryobi blade and brush cutter, not automatically to every product. Ryobi operator’s manual
