If your LG washing machine bangs when it fills or its inlet valve closes, a washing-machine water hammer arrestor is a relevant fix—but no single model is proven best for every LG hookup. Choose one that matches the hose threads, pressure requirements and installation instructions for your washer and plumbing. First confirm that the noise coincides with filling or valve shutoff, then check household water pressure and the exact washer manual.
Why an LG washer may make a banging noise
A sudden bang that occurs as water enters the washer or when an inlet valve closes can come from supply pipes moving or flexing as water flow stops. LG troubleshooting guidance describes this kind of pipe movement and also identifies high household water pressure as a possible factor. The sound alone does not prove the washer is defective.

What to look for in a washer water hammer arrestor
There is no documented comparative test establishing a best-performing arrestor for LG washers. Treat fit and installation requirements—not a universal “best” label—as the deciding factors.

- Thread compatibility: Confirm the connections match both your laundry shutoff valve and washer supply hoses. Check whether the product requires an adapter.
- Pressure limits: Compare the arrestor’s maximum working pressure and any pressure-reduction requirement with the home’s measured supply pressure and your washer’s permitted range.
- Placement and orientation: Follow the instructions for the exact arrestor and washer. Some guidance places an arrestor at the shutoff; a particular LG laundry-center manual instead specifies the cold-water inlet and an upward-facing air chamber.
- Intended use: Choose a product whose instructions explicitly cover residential washing-machine hose connections, and install it as directed.
For example, Watts describes its LF150HA hose adapter for applications including direct mounting to a Watts Model 2/Duo-Cloz washing-machine shutoff valve. Check water pressure before choosing an arrestor
LG USA’s hose-installation guidance gives a washer supply-pressure range of 14.5–116 psi and says a pressure-reducing valve is required above 116 psi. A specific Reliance Worldwide Corporation (RWC) arrestor instruction sheet distributed by Lowe’s has a stricter, product-specific condition: it calls for an upstream pressure-reducing valve if the system exceeds 60 psi. Do not treat that 60 psi threshold as a universal rule for all arrestors; follow the instructions for the product you buy.

These figures refer to different requirements: the LG range is for the washer, while the 60 psi condition belongs to the cited RWC arrestor. If pressure is high, uncertain or requires plumbing changes, consult a plumber and check local requirements. Where to install it—and why the instructions matter
Watts says to install its arrestor “as close as possible to source of shock.” The practical location depends on the product and washer arrangement: washer-specific arrestors may connect at the shutoff valve, while a particular LG laundry-center manual directs installation at the cold-water inlet. These are not interchangeable universal instructions.

The manual for the LG LUWM101HWA family says to place its supplied arrestor at the cold-water inlet with the air chamber facing up; it also suggests slightly closing the cold faucet if noise continues. Use the instructions supplied with the exact arrestor and washer. The following details are specific to the cited RWC hose-thread arrestor sheet; they are not universal instructions for other products.

- Turn off the water at the shutoff valves and follow the appliance and arrestor instructions for disconnecting hoses.
- For the cited RWC unit, thread its female hose connection onto the washer shutoff valve, then attach the washer supply hose to the arrestor’s male hose-thread outlet.
- The RWC sheet permits horizontal or vertical installation. Hand-tighten the connections, then use a wrench for an additional quarter-turn. Do not overtighten.
- Reconnect the hoses according to the washer manual. LG’s U.S. guidance says to use new hoses, place a rubber seal in each threaded fitting, and connect hot and cold hoses to the matching washer ports and taps.
- Turn the water back on and check every connection for leaks. LG’s guidance specifies both hot and cold supplies and a hot-water supply of at least 120°F.
Read the product’s pressure and connection requirements before installation. The RWC sheet’s pressure-reduction condition applies to that arrestor; the manufacturer’s instructions are available as a RWC water hammer arrestor instruction sheet.

- Confirm the noise happens during filling or when the inlet valve closes; timing helps distinguish a supply-pipe shock from other appliance noises.
- Check for leaks and verify hose connections, seals and arrestor placement against the exact product and washer instructions.
- Have household pressure checked if it may be high. LG advises lowering household pressure or contacting a plumber about installing a regulator when pressure is a concern.
- If the installation is uncertain, involves altered plumbing, or requires a pressure-reducing valve, get help from a qualified plumber rather than guessing at fittings or pressure settings.
Model-specific pressure and setup details
Watts’ 2015 LF150A/LF150-HA instructions list a 150 psi maximum working pressure for that product family. They also specify a 30 psi factory pre-charge and, when system pressure is higher than 35 psi, an air-charge setting 5 psi below system flow pressure. These are product-family setup and maintenance specifications, not general sizing rules for other arrestors. The Watts instructions’ sizing table varies with pipe size, pipe length and flow pressure, so it should not be used to size a different model: Watts LF150A/LF150-HA instructions.
