There is no universal “best” tractor snow blower combination: the right choice depends first on whether the attachment is approved for your exact tractor model and year, then on the mounting hardware, snow conditions, controls, traction needs, and seasonal setup. The “2019” in the original title cannot be verified as a set of contemporaneous reviews, so the examples below are identified by their current manufacturer information—not presented as 2019 recommendations.

How to choose a tractor snow blower combination

Start with compatibility, not clearing width or brand. A snow blower attachment that appears to match a tractor by brand or deck size may still require a particular hitch, mounting bracket, lift system, or model-year configuration. Check the attachment maker’s fit list for the tractor’s full model designation and year, and confirm required hardware before buying.

  1. Identify your tractor. Record the exact model and model year from its identification plate or owner documentation.
  2. Verify the attachment fit. Use the manufacturer’s compatibility list for that specific tractor. If the list is unclear, ask the manufacturer or an authorized dealer to confirm the configuration.
  3. Check the complete mounting system. Confirm the required hitch or brackets, lift mechanism, and any other components are included or available for your tractor.
  4. Match the blower to the job. Compare clearing width and stage design with the paths, storage area, and snow you expect to handle.
  5. Plan for traction and conversion. Check whether weights or tire chains are recommended, how the mower deck is removed, and where both the deck and blower will be stored.

Current manufacturer examples

These examples illustrate different attachment configurations. They are not a ranked comparison, do not establish what was reviewed in 2019, and should not be treated as interchangeable or universally compatible.

Attachment Manufacturer-stated fit and setup What to note
Husqvarna 42-inch two-stage attachment Husqvarna’s U.S. page lists compatible garden tractor and riding mower models. The Canadian product page describes serrated input augers feeding a high-speed impeller, replaceable wear plate and skid shoes, and seat-operated lift and chute controls. Husqvarna recommends wheel weights and chains. Check the fit list for your exact model rather than inferring compatibility from the brand. Canadian product details.
John Deere 47-inch quick-hitch snow blower John Deere describes it for X700 lawn tractors and selected compact tractors; a quick hitch is required. The manufacturer describes lift control and chute rotation from the seat, and a two-stage design intended for deep snow. Confirm the specific tractor and hitch requirements on Deere’s compatibility information.
Cub Cadet 42-inch three-stage attachment Cub Cadet lists XT1 and XT2 Enduro Series lawn tractors from 2015 onward and Troy-Bilt Super Bronco XP riding mowers from 2015 onward. Cub Cadet claims its three-stage design clears snow “up to 25% faster” than a traditional two-stage snow thrower. That figure is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independent comparative test result.

Compare the combination, not just the blower

Compatibility and mounting

The tractor and attachment form a system. Verify model and year, front hitch or mounting brackets, and the lift arrangement together. John Deere’s 47-inch attachment, for example, explicitly requires a quick hitch; a blower’s nominal width does not tell you whether the tractor can accept it.

Width and stage design

Consider the width of the areas you clear and the space available to maneuver and store the equipment. Compare stage designs using manufacturer specifications, while distinguishing design descriptions from independently verified performance. A manufacturer’s speed or capacity claim is not a substitute for a test under your conditions.

Controls and adjustment

Find out how the attachment is raised and how the chute and deflector are adjusted. Controls can be manual or operated from the seat, and the amount of adjustment required affects day-to-day use. Read the product specification for the exact configuration rather than assuming controls carry across a product family.

Traction and stability

Snow attachments add load and can make traction a limiting factor. Follow the attachment maker’s recommendations for wheel weights and chains, and verify that your tractor’s setup can accommodate them. A 2022 John Deere attachment guide describes a 100 Series 44-inch two-stage package that included a rear weight bracket, two rear suitcase weights, and a pair of tire chains; it also directs buyers to a model-specific attachment chart. That guide documents a historical package, not current availability. See the 2022 guide.

Seasonal conversion and storage

Allow time and space for the seasonal changeover. Consumer Reports notes that fitting snow equipment can involve removing the mower deck and storing both the deck and attachment. It also cautions that many residential lawn tractor transmissions are principally designed for mowing. This is a general limitation, not proof that every compatible tractor is unsuitable for snow work. The article was originally published February 11, 2017, and updated January 24, 2022. What “best” means for your property

Use your own operating conditions to make the final choice rather than treating a roundup as a universal ranking. A current Bob Vila comparison also frames the decision around stage, clearing capacity, compatibility, and traction; as an editorial comparison, it should not replace the manufacturer’s fit confirmation.
