There is no universal model established for every adjustable base. Check your exact manual first; the Leesa and Tempur-Pedic guidance reviewed here recommends connecting the base directly to a wall outlet or surge protector, but requirements can vary by model and location.
Do you need a surge protector for an adjustable bed?
Follow the instructions for your exact bed model. Leesa’s adjustable-bed safety information says: “The bed base should only be plugged directly into a surge protector (recommended) or into an electrical outlet.” Leesa also warns that failure to use an outlet or surge protector could void the electrical portion of its warranty. That is guidance for the Leesa material reviewed, not a rule for every brand or model. Leesa adjustable-bed safety information
The Tempur-Pedic UP 2.0 manual recommends a surge protector for optimal safety and operation and says to connect the base directly to a wall outlet or surge protector. It warns that an improper connection may cause electric shock, electrical fire, or faulty operation. The manual lists an input of AC 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz, 1.5 A; those figures apply to the UP 2.0, not other adjustable bases. Tempur-Pedic UP 2.0 manual
These examples support checking the manual, not assuming every bed requires or accepts the same arrangement. The exact bed’s plug, input rating, grounding requirements, and the electrical rules where you live take precedence.

What to look for in a surge protector
Confirm it is a surge protector
A basic power strip adds outlets; a surge protector contains components designed to limit certain voltage surges. Do not rely on a product title or appearance alone. Check its specifications and certification information. UL’s consumer guidance recommends choosing a UL-certified product. UL consumer guide to power strips and surge protectors
Match ratings and grounding
Compare the protector’s voltage, current, wattage, plug, and grounding with the bed manual and the outlet. The rating must suit the connected equipment and circuit. More outlets—or a larger advertised joule rating—does not by itself establish compatibility. UL notes that a lower suppressed-voltage rating is better within the range discussed in its guide; that rating is not interchangeable with joules.

- 【360° Rotating Plug & Adjustable Length】This outlet extender stick extends smoothly from 16 to 26 inches and swivels 360° for easy access to hard-to-reach outlets. Ideal for use behind furniture like sofas, beds, and desks, while keeping cords tidy and hidden. (Tip: Before inserting into the socket, do not rotate the plug directly by hand. The correct method is to first insert the plug fully into the power strip, then rotate the plug as needed. Note that when adjusting the rotation angle, turn the plug itself rather than the outlet extender stick.)
- 【All-In-One Wall Outlet Extender】The power socket expander features 3 AC outlets(Max 1875W), 2 USB-A(Max 12W), and 2 USB-C ports(Max 15W), allowing you to charge up to 7 devices at once. It transforms a single outlet into a complete charging hub, ideal for powering smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other essentials with compact, space-saving design.
- 【1050J Surge Protection & Wide-Spaced Design】This wall plug extender combines robust 1050J surge protection with widely spaced outlets (1.42 inches), to help protect your devices from power surges and eliminate adapter crowding. It offers a comprehensive all-in-one power solution for your home or office.
- 【Easy To Install】Installation is a snap—no tools or complicated wiring needed! Simply plug this outlet extender into any standard socket—then use the included heavy-duty hook-and-loop strips for added stability. It stays securely on the wall without drilling or any hardware required.
- 【Easy Power Access】This power socket solves the problem of hard-to-reach outlets behind furniture. Its 360° rotating design lets users plug in devices effortlessly—minimizing the need to bend down or move heavy furniture. This makes daily power access much more convenient, especially for those who appreciate added ease of use. Its compact design keeps cords tidy and within easy reach.
UL’s certification overview says a relocatable power tap with a surge protective device must also comply with UL 1449. This is standards context, not proof that every product sold as a surge protector is certified. UL overview of relocatable power taps
Check cord routing and condition
The manufacturer instructions reviewed call for a direct connection to the wall outlet or surge protector. Avoid chaining one strip or protector into another, and do not use an arrangement the bed maker does not permit. Keep the cord away from heat and from moving, pinching, or crushing areas of the bed. Inspect the housing and cord; do not use damaged equipment. Follow the product maker’s instructions for replacement or disposal.

How to choose without assuming compatibility
- Find the bed’s manual. Identify the exact brand and model, then check its power input, plug and grounding instructions, and whether it permits a surge protector.
- Check your outlet and location. Confirm the outlet type and household circuit meet the bed and protector requirements. Follow local electrical requirements; U.S.-oriented UL guidance may not cover your region.
- Compare the protector’s label. Verify that it is a surge protector, review its certification and electrical ratings, and make sure its plug and grounding suit the outlet and bed.
- Plan a direct, safe connection. Use only a connection arrangement the bed maker permits. Place and route the cord so it cannot be caught or damaged as the bed moves.
- Check the actual product status. Confirm current availability and certification information, and inspect the product for damage before use.
Why a familiar model may not be a good recommendation
Product listings can be outdated. For example, Eaton’s SS480806 product page lists eight outlets, 1,650 joules, 120 V, 15 A, and 1,800 W, but identifies the product as discontinued and displays a serial-number warning. Those specifications do not make it a current choice or establish that it suits a particular adjustable bed. Eaton SS480806 product page
Surge protection is not a guarantee against all electrical damage, and the guidance reviewed does not establish that it preserves every bed’s warranty. Check the warranty terms for your exact model.
