But the title’s claim that these are ten picks from a 42-iron test cannot be verified from the current sources: F.A.Z. reports testing 44 irons, while Truthful Reviews describes a separate 41-iron field. The recommendations below are attributed to those publishers, not presented as results from an independently confirmed 42-iron test.
What the current tests establish—and what they do not
The current F.A.Z. Kaufkompass steam-iron guide, updated 7 September 2026, says it tested 44 irons and lists four recommendations. A separate Truthful Reviews guide, published 8 August 2026, describes a 41-iron field and names four picks of its own. The exact article promising ten recommendations from a 42-iron test is not established by these sources, so it would be misleading to combine their findings into a purported ten-product test ranking.
Instead, the models below are the distinct options supported by the two guides. Their labels reflect each publisher’s recommendation and observations; there is no shared scoring system or harmonized head-to-head table.
Which steam irons are worth considering?
Best overall starting point: Braun FreeStyle 3 FI 3194 BK
Both publishers favor the FI 3194 BK. F.A.Z. names it the winner, citing very good steam production, easy glide and comfortable handling, though it is not fully convinced by the control dial. Truthful Reviews calls it best overall and reports a 270 ml tank, quick heat-up, automatic shut-off and self-cleaning for the variant it discusses.

Check the complete model number before buying. Truthful Reviews reports 200 g/min steam output for the FI 3194 BK, compared with 170 g/min for the similar-looking FI 3124 and FI 3144 variants. Those figures are from its 8 August 2026 guide; it also cautions that UK listings it checked included the lower-output FI3124. Availability and suffixes can differ by market, so confirm the exact regional listing rather than relying on the product name or appearance.
Best all-rounder pick: Philips Azur 7000 DST7060/20
F.A.Z. added this model to its recommendations in its 7 September 2026 update. It describes a pointed soleplate that reaches awkward areas, crease-free results after one pass and practical features. Its drawbacks are a water level that is difficult to see and a long cooling time. Consider it if precise handling and reported one-pass results matter more to you than easy tank monitoring or quick cooling.

This is a better fit for someone who values its reported ironing performance and accepts the weight and automatic-control trade-off than for someone who wants to set temperatures fabric by fabric.
For less fabric sorting: Russell Hobbs One Temperature
Both guides recommend this iron for the convenience of using one setting across different fabrics. F.A.Z. also notes its long cable, but says the iron is heavy. Choose it for simpler fabric handling and reach, not if minimizing the weight in your hand is the priority.

Budget pick in Truthful Reviews: Philips EasySpeed GC1751
Truthful Reviews names the Philips EasySpeed GC1751 its budget pick in its 8 August 2026 guide. The available findings establish the recommendation role but do not provide a comparable set of performance or price figures here. Check the live price, exact model suffix and available features in your market before treating it as the best-value choice.
Comfort pick in Truthful Reviews: Philips Azur 8000 DST8050
Truthful Reviews presents the Philips Azur 8000 DST8050 as its comfort pick. F.A.Z. lists the DST8050/20 among models it tested but not among its current recommendations. The shared model family does not establish identical regional variants or a common test verdict, so use the comfort label as Truthful Reviews’ judgment rather than a consensus ranking.

How to choose for your ironing routine
Steam output is useful, but wattage alone does not tell you how an iron will feel or perform on your laundry. The Truthful Reviews guide gives around 100 g/min as a rule of thumb for good results and says most irons work at four to six bar; these are that guide’s general claims, not an official standard. It also notes that steam generation is tied to soleplate temperature. For a purchase decision, combine output figures with the kind of crease removal and glide the test actually reports.
- For frequent or stubborn creases: prioritize reported steam performance and crease removal, then consider whether the iron’s weight is comfortable over a longer session.
- For varied fabrics: decide whether you prefer manual temperature control or an automatic/one-temperature approach that reduces adjustments and sorting.
- For detailed areas: look for a soleplate shape and glide that make it easier to work around seams, buttons and collars.
- For longer sessions: compare tank capacity, ease of seeing the water level, refill convenience, weight and cable reach. The sources do not provide one consistent set of measurements for all these factors across the recommended models.
- For upkeep and safety: check for anti-drip, automatic shut-off and self-cleaning, and follow the model’s own water and care instructions. The Truthful Reviews guide says distilled water is no longer generally necessary, but recommends checking the manufacturer’s instructions; do not assume one water rule applies to every iron.
How to compare listings without buying the wrong variant
- Read the full model code. For Braun FreeStyle 3, distinguish FI 3194 BK from FI 3124 and FI 3144; Truthful Reviews reports different steam-output figures for these variants.
- Confirm the suffix and region. Product suffixes and availability may vary by market. Check the exact model shown in the listing and the manufacturer’s specifications for that regional version.
- Match the recommendation to your priority. Use the test’s stated trade-offs—such as weight, controls, water-level visibility or reported glide—instead of choosing by a shared brand name.
- Check current terms in the listing. Prices, stock and included features are not established by the cited test findings and can change.
Why there is no reliable ten-iron ranking here
The available sources support six distinct models or model families, but not ten comparable recommendations from one 42-iron test. F.A.Z.’s current page names four recommendations and says it tested 44 irons; Truthful Reviews describes a separate 41-iron field. Treating models mentioned as tested or “also tested” as additional recommended buys would overstate what the publishers concluded. A genuine ten-pick list would require confirmation of the underlying test and its specific models and judgments.
