The best Starlink mount in 2026 is the one that fits your exact terminal and reaches the first safe location the Starlink app confirms has a clear sky view. For a current Standard kit, that usually means a Wall Mount for a clear side wall, a Pivot Mount for a compatible sloped roof, or a Pipe Adapter Mount for a sound existing pole—after testing first with the included kickstand.
There is no single best Starlink mount. The right one is the mount made for your exact Starlink kit and the location that gives it the clearest view of the sky. Find that location with the Starlink app before you buy hardware or drill anything. A higher mount is worthwhile only if it clears the rooflines, trees, poles, or nearby structures that would otherwise interrupt service.

For most current Standard installations, the practical choices are simple: use the included kickstand to test; use a Standard Wall Mount when the clear view is from a side wall; use a Standard Pivot Mount when it is from a compatible sloped roof; and use a Standard Pipe Adapter Mount when a sound, correctly located existing pole is the answer. Those recommendations do not transfer automatically to Starlink Mini, Performance, or older actuated Standard equipment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStart with the sky view, not the mounting surface
A short cable run or an easy-to-reach wall is not automatically a good Starlink location. Before permanent installation, temporarily power the system in every realistic candidate location and run the obstruction and alignment tools in the Starlink app. Branches, roof edges, chimneys, nearby buildings, and poles can all block part of the satellite path.

- BUILT-IN ROUTER WITH WI-FI 5: The Starlink Mini includes an integrated dual-band Wi-Fi 5 router for strong wireless coverage and stable speeds. A built-in ethernet port provides wired connectivity for routers, mesh systems, gaming devices, or network hardware. Average power consumption of 25–40 watts supports efficient operation in off-grid or mobile power setups.
- Identify the kit exactly. Check the kit name in your account, on the carton, and in its current support guide. “Gen 3” alone is not a reliable buying instruction; current Starlink support distinguishes multiple Standard and Performance variants, and regional availability can differ.
- Test candidate locations with the included mount. Start at ground level if possible, then test a wall, roof, or pole location only when necessary to improve the view.
- Plan the complete cable run. Confirm the supplied cable reaches the indoor equipment location, includes sensible service slack, and has a practical building-entry route before drilling.
- Choose the least invasive location that passes the scan. This generally means wall before roof, or a sound existing pole before building a new elevated structure, when the app shows comparable results.
- Use the alignment tool again before final tightening. Lock the mount only after the terminal is positioned and the app reports acceptable alignment and obstruction results.
This obstruction-first approach prevents one of the costliest DIY mistakes: making a weatherproof penetration in a location the app later proves is obstructed.
Choose by kit family first
| Kit family | What to do | Important compatibility point |
|---|---|---|
| Current Standard | Select a Standard-specific Wall, Pivot, or Pipe Adapter Mount after testing the location. | Do not assume a Mini, Performance, or legacy accessory fits. |
| Starlink Mini | Use Mini-specific accessories. The Mini kit includes a detachable kickstand plus a Mini Pipe Adapter and Flat Mount for an existing 31–50 mm (1.25–2 in.) pole. | That pole range is Mini-specific; do not apply it to Standard or Performance hardware. |
| Performance Gen 3 | Use its separate Wedge, Flat, Wall, or Pipe Adapter options and complete its obstruction/alignment checks before permanent installation. | Performance has its own mounting ecosystem. |
| Older Standard Actuated hardware | Use the guide for that exact terminal and accessory. | A Standard-to-Standard Actuated Mount Adapter is a narrow reuse product for listed older mounts, not a universal conversion adapter. |
Official hardware is the lowest-ambiguity route. Starlink permits third-party mounting solutions, but does not guarantee their compatibility or performance. In particular, avoid third-party metal mounts that wrap the terminal base or place metal near the GPS chip at the top-right rear of the terminal.
The best mounting option for each situation
1. Included kickstand: best for testing and temporary setup
The included mount is the best first mount because it lets you prove the location before committing to a permanent installation. Starlink describes included mounting hardware as suitable for ground-level setup or quick connection testing, while dedicated mounts and routing accessories are intended for permanent elevated wall, pole, and roof installations.
Recommended Free Tools
That does not mean every kickstand is forbidden for permanent use. Some current kit guides allow it for quick setup or permanent installation. Let the guide for your own kit and the app’s result decide. What it should not become is an unexamined substitute for a deliberate permanent mount on a roof or other elevated, exposed surface.
2. Standard Wall Mount: best when a side wall has the open view
For a current Standard kit, choose the official Wall Mount when the side of the home is the location that passes the obstruction scan. It is often the cleanest permanent solution because it can avoid roof penetrations while gaining enough elevation to clear nearby obstacles.
Before selecting it, confirm all three conditions:
- The app shows a usable clear view from that exact wall location.
- The terminal will have room to rotate for alignment without contacting eaves, fascia, gutters, trim, or the wall.
- The bracket can be fixed to suitable structure and the cable can enter the building without an unprotected penetration.
The exact fastener, sealing, cable-entry, siding, masonry, and framing details must come from the current Wall Mount guide for your terminal and the requirements of the actual building assembly. There is no universal “drill here” procedure that is safe for every stud wall, masonry wall, cladding system, or weather-resistive barrier.

3. Standard Pivot Mount: best when a compatible sloped roof wins the scan
Choose the Standard Pivot Mount when the app shows that a directly mounted sloped roof is the best location and roof work can be done safely. It is a purpose-built category for installation on a home’s slanted roof—not a generic recommendation to put every dish on the roof.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The current guide’s tool and material list includes sealant material, cable-routing clips, two 3/8 in. × 3.5 in. lag screws, and drilling, driving, marking, leveling, and wrenching tools. That shows the mount is a dedicated system; it does not prove that the listed hardware suits every roof structure, roof covering, wind exposure, or jurisdiction.
4. Standard Pipe Adapter Mount: best for a suitable existing pole
A Standard Pipe Adapter Mount is usually the best route when an existing antenna mast or dedicated pole is already in the location with the best clear sky view. Search or shop for Starlink Standard Pipe Adapter Mount only after confirming that the terminal is a current Standard model and that the accessory matches it.
Use this sequence:
- Confirm the Pipe Adapter is listed for the exact terminal family.
- Inspect whether the pole is sound, securely supported, and safely accessible. An old TV mast or improvised pipe is not automatically structurally adequate.
- Temporarily test the terminal there with the app.
- Use the app to align the terminal.
- Tighten the adapter screws as directed, then physically verify the terminal is firmly attached.
Do not assume a generic satellite-TV mast is compatible merely because it looks close in size. Treat a third-party solution as a site-specific choice, not the equivalent of an official mount.
5. Legacy mount reuse: useful only for a listed migration case
If you already own one of the older Standard Actuated mounts listed by Starlink, the Standard-to-Standard Actuated Mount Adapter may allow you to keep that mount rather than replace it. If you are buying from scratch, select a mount designed for the current Standard kit instead. This adapter is not a general-purpose way to make any old dish mount fit a new terminal.
A practical DIY installation sequence
- Download the current guide for the exact kit and mount. Use Starlink’s current support and Shop compatibility information, not an old product listing, forum post, or video. Accessory names, compatibility, and instructions can change.
- Set up temporarily and scan every plausible location. Favor the usable clear view over the shortest route to the router.
- Lay out the cable route before drilling. Account for exterior routing, turns, protection from crushing and sharp stress, service slack, entry location, and the final indoor equipment location.
- Buy the exact mount for the terminal family. Keep Mini, Standard, Performance, and legacy parts separate in your shopping list.
- Install strictly to the mount-specific guide. Use only the guide’s relevant hardware, tools, and sequence. Do not borrow hole sizes, fasteners, or flashing practices from a different Starlink model or a different roof type.
- Connect, align, and lock. Complete the in-app alignment process, tighten locking hardware as instructed, and confirm the terminal is secure.
- Recheck the app after installation. Treat any obstruction or alignment alert as unfinished work, not a message to ignore.
Cable routing and ground-pole work need separate planning
Routing is part of the installation, not cleanup after the mount is attached. Avoid crushing, pinching, sharply bending, or leaving the cable where it will be damaged. Use the routing hardware specified for the kit where needed, and plan the building entry so it remains protected from weather.

- This is not Starlink. You will not receive a warranty with this bundle created by an outside seller.
For a ground-pole installation, do not turn a specific Starlink ground-pole guide into a universal recipe. One current guide specifies solid ground, a hole 0.6 m deep and roughly 0.5 m wide, concrete, and a drain hole kept above the concrete surface. It also states that the cable is not burial-rated. Those dimensions and details apply only where that guide matches the kit and region; local ground conditions, frost depth, permits, and product instructions may require something different.
Never solve a cable-routing problem by directly burying a cable that the applicable guide says is not burial-rated.
When DIY should stop
Self-installation can be sensible when the selected location is accessible, the mount guide matches the work, and the attachment and cable path are straightforward. It is time to bring in a qualified installer when the job turns into roofing, structural, electrical, or difficult access work.
- The only clear view is on a steep, high, fragile, wet, or otherwise unsafe roof.
- You cannot confidently attach to suitable structure or determine whether an existing pole is sound.
- Overhead power lines are nearby.
- The cable route needs an uncertain exterior penetration, burial, or electrical work.
- Landlord, HOA, permit, building, electrical, or roofing requirements are unclear.
For U.S. safety context, treat overhead power lines as energized, keep at least 10 feet away, and use a non-conductive ladder near lines. Those are baseline safety principles, not a substitute for local regulations, utility directions, or job-specific professional judgment.

- “This mount fits every Starlink.” It does not; mounts are kit-specific.
- “Higher is always better.” Better is the location with the better unobstructed app result, not automatically the highest point.
- “A 60 mph terminal specification certifies the whole installation.” A listed terminal operational wind speed does not certify the roof, wall, pole, fastener pattern, or site-specific installation.
- “Any old mast will work.” Compatibility and structural adequacy must both be verified.
- “The cable can be directly buried.” Do not make that claim where the applicable guide says the cable is not burial-rated.
What to buy after the app test
| If the best tested location is… | For a current Standard kit, start with… | Before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Ground level or a temporary location | The included kickstand | Check the kit guide if considering permanent use. |
| Side of the house | Standard Wall Mount | Confirm clear rotation, suitable attachment, and protected cable entry. |
| Compatible sloped roof | Standard Pivot Mount | Confirm safe access and use the roof-specific guide exactly. |
| Sound existing pole | Starlink Standard Pipe Adapter Mount | Verify exact-kit compatibility, pole condition, access, alignment, and secure locking. |
| An older listed Standard Actuated mount | Standard-to-Standard Actuated Mount Adapter | Use only for the listed reuse case; buy a current-kit mount for a new installation. |
The best purchase is therefore not a generic “best Starlink mount.” It is the exact, kit-compatible mount that puts your terminal in the first safe, least-invasive location the app confirms has a clear view.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do all Starlink mounts fit every dish?
No. Starlink mounts are kit-specific. Verify the terminal family in your account, on the box, and in the current Starlink guide before ordering. Mini, Standard, Performance, and legacy actuated systems use different accessory ecosystems.

Should I put Starlink on the roof?
No. First test the included mount and use the Starlink app’s obstruction and alignment tools. Install higher only when that location materially improves the clear sky view.
Can I use an existing TV antenna pole for Starlink?
Use a Standard Pipe Adapter Mount only after confirming both exact-kit compatibility and that the existing pole is sound, secure, safely accessible, and in a location that passes the app scan. Do not assume any old TV or satellite mast is compatible.
Can I bury the Starlink cable?
Do not directly bury it when the applicable Starlink ground-pole guide says the cable is not burial-rated. Plan a protected route using the current guidance for your exact kit and local requirements.
When should I hire a professional installer?
Stop when the work involves unsafe roof access, uncertain structure, nearby overhead power lines, unclear exterior penetrations, burial or electrical work, or unclear local rules. A qualified installer is the appropriate next step.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Run the Starlink app scan before drilling. Then match the exact kit to the simplest official mount that reaches the unobstructed location: kickstand for testing, Wall Mount for a clear side wall, Pivot Mount for a suitable sloped roof, or Pipe Adapter Mount for a sound existing pole.
