The best square toilet is the one that fits your bathroom and installation—not simply the one with “square” in its name. Listings may use that word for the toilet’s exterior silhouette or as part of a branded product range, and it does not guarantee a square bowl opening, a particular footprint, or a specific flush system. Compare the exact model’s dimensions, rough-in, seat and flush specifications before choosing a design.
What does “square toilet” mean?
“Square” is not a complete toilet specification. It may describe the exterior profile while the bowl interior remains elongated, or it may be part of a manufacturer’s range name. Geberit, for example, uses Selnova Square as a product-line name. Check the specific model drawing and dimensions rather than assuming the name tells you the bowl geometry or installation requirements.
How to choose one that fits your bathroom
Start with installation fit, then compare comfort, flushing and maintenance. Use the manufacturer’s current documentation for the exact model and check local plumbing requirements before ordering.
- Confirm the rough-in. Measure from the finished wall to the center of the toilet’s floor drain, then confirm the fixture is designed for that configuration. Do not rely on a general description or another model’s dimensions.
- Check the full footprint and clearances. Compare the toilet’s width and depth with the available floor area, and verify clearance around the bowl, door, vanity and other fixtures. Check height as well, including seat height if comfort or accessibility is a concern.
- Verify the plumbing and installation system. Confirm whether the model is intended for your plumbing arrangement and whether it requires a compatible frame or other installation components. Geberit says Selnova Square WCs were tested with Geberit Duofix frames; that manufacturer statement does not establish compatibility with every installation or prove local availability.
- Compare the functional details. Check the flush mechanism and manufacturer-stated water use, one-piece or two-piece construction, bowl configuration, seat height, and whether a seat is included.
- Consider cleaning and future service. Look at the base design, rim, seat removal method and access to replacement parts. Confirm the local warranty, parts support and availability with the manufacturer or seller.

Examples of square-style toilets and ranges
A reviewed secondary guide names the WOODBRIDGE T-0001, Swiss Madison Carré SM-1T256 and TOTO Aquia IV Cube as examples. It also reports model specifications and ranks options, but the figures were not independently verified against current manufacturer product pages or the original MaP record. Treat these names as leads for further checking, not as a verified recommendation or performance ranking.

Geberit’s UK-oriented product literature identifies Selnova Square and Smyle Square ranges. It describes Rimfree as a feature for easier cleaning and maintenance and says Selnova Square WCs are compatible with dual-flush systems and were tested with Geberit Duofix frames. These are manufacturer claims about its product line; confirm the exact model, installation compatibility and regional availability before buying. Geberit’s description that Selnova Square designs “blend harmoniously into any bathroom” is brand language, not an independent assessment.
Are square toilets comfortable to sit on?
The exterior shape alone does not establish comfort. Check the actual bowl configuration and seat dimensions, along with the seat height, against the people who will use the bathroom. A toilet described as square may still have a conventional elongated bowl interior.

Do square toilets flush as well as regular toilets?
“Square” does not indicate flush performance. Compare the exact model’s flushing system and manufacturer-published water-use information. The available product-line details do not establish that square toilets as a category flush better or worse than other designs. Avoid relying on unverified performance scores: the secondary guide’s reported MaP figure was not confirmed against the original test record.

Shape by itself does not settle cleaning effort. Consider the specific toilet’s rim and base design, seat removal and access to replacement parts. Geberit describes Selnova Square’s Rimfree feature as making cleaning and maintenance easier; that is a manufacturer product claim, not a general comparison with round toilets.
