Best Smart TVs of 2025 in the US: Top Picks by Room, Size, and Budget

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The LG C5 OLED is the best smart TV of the 2025 US generation for most buyers, offering an unusually broad size range, excellent movie contrast, strong HDR and motion, and advanced gaming support. It is not the right answer for every room: choose the TCL QM7K for bright-room value and very large screens, the Samsung S95F for premium OLED gaming, the Sony BRAVIA 8 II for movie-focused processing, or the Roku Pro Series for a simple streaming experience.

This guide covers 2025 models that may still be available or discounted in 2026. Your best choice depends on eye-to-screen distance, daylight and reflections, budget, gaming hardware, preferred HDR format, and smart-TV interface.

Quick answers

Buyer or room Best 2025 pick Why it fits Main limitation
Best overall for most people LG C5 OLED Excellent contrast, HDR, motion, gaming, and an unusually broad 42- to 83-inch size range Not ideal for intense direct sunlight or unusually heavy static content
Bright-room OLED and premium gaming Samsung S95F OLED High brightness, glare-reducing treatment, premium gaming support, and 55- to 83-inch sizes No Dolby Vision; direct reflections can still be visible
Movie-focused premium TV Sony BRAVIA 8 II Refined processing, motion handling, Google TV, and a cinematic presentation Usually a more specialized and potentially less widely discounted choice
Best value Mini-LED TCL QM7K High brightness, local dimming, gaming features, and sizes from 55 to 115 inches Blooming and viewing-angle performance vary by scene and size
Simple streaming experience Roku Pro Series TV Easy-to-use Roku interface, Mini-LED local dimming, QLED color, and 120Hz gaming support Picture controls and value depend on the exact generation and sale price
Premium dedicated theater alternative Panasonic Z95B Flagship OLED with Fire TV built in and redesigned audio Availability and pricing may be less consistent than the largest mainstream brands

Short version: Buy the LG C5 OLED for the safest all-around recommendation, the TCL QM7K for a bright room or very large screen, the Samsung S95F if premium gaming is the priority, and the Sony BRAVIA 8 II if movie processing matters more than maximum brightness. The right TV still depends on viewing distance, sunlight, seating position, gaming hardware, and the smart-TV interface you actually want to use.

Best smart TVs of 2025

Best overall for most buyers: LG C5 OLED

The LG C5 OLED is the default recommendation for a mixed-use living room, bedroom, apartment, or light-controlled home theater. It combines the pixel-level black and contrast that make OLED so effective for films with strong HDR, smooth motion, low-latency gaming, and a wide choice of sizes.

LG offered the 2025 C5 in 42-, 48-, 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch classes. That range is unusually useful: a 42- or 48-inch version can suit a desk, bedroom, or compact apartment, while the 77- or 83-inch models can anchor a larger theater or living room. LG’s US specification set includes Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, webOS 25, AI picture and sound processing, and gaming features including up to 4K/144Hz-class operation, VRR, G-Sync compatibility, and AMD FreeSync Premium.

RTINGS identifies the C5 as its best all-around TV under $2,000 and particularly praises its dark-room performance, HDR highlights, color, motion, and gaming responsiveness. That is a strong endorsement of its balance, not a claim that every size is priced below $2,000 or that it is best in every room.

Choose it if: you watch a mixture of streaming services, films, sports, and games; you want OLED contrast; or you need more size flexibility than many premium OLED ranges provide.

Think twice if: the screen will face intense sunlight for much of the day, or the television will display a static channel logo, dashboard, scoreboard, or computer desktop for unusually long periods. OLED burn-in is neither impossible nor inevitable; the practical risk depends on usage patterns, brightness, content variety, and the set’s protective features.

LG’s original US MSRP table started the 42-inch C5 at $1,399. That is a launch reference, not a current price, and larger sizes cost substantially more. A remaining 2025 C5 may be especially attractive when it is discounted, but verify that the listing is the exact C5 generation and size.

Best OLED for bright rooms and gaming: Samsung S95F

The Samsung S95F OLED is the premium OLED choice for buyers who want high-end gaming performance and a screen better suited to a bright living room than many conventional OLEDs. Samsung’s 2025 flagship uses an upgraded glare-reducing treatment, increased brightness, OLED HDR Pro, the NQ4 AI Gen3 processor, and Motion Xcelerator 165Hz. The US range was announced in 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch classes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung markets the panel as virtually eliminating glare and reflections. Treat that as a design advantage rather than a guarantee: a window or lamp directly opposite the TV can still be visible, depending on its intensity and the angle of the screen. Brightness and reflection control solve different room problems.

For gaming, Samsung lists 4K/165Hz-class support for compatible devices, HDMI 2.1-related features, VRR, and low-latency functions. This is particularly relevant to a high-end gaming PC. Consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X generally make their most demanding use of 4K at 120Hz, so the extra refresh-rate headroom is most valuable to PC players with hardware capable of producing it.

Important HDR limitation: Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision. The S95F supports Samsung’s HDR formats, including HDR10+, but HDR10+ is not interchangeable with Dolby Vision in every film, show, game, or streaming service. If Dolby Vision compatibility is a requirement, choose an LG, Sony, TCL, or another model that explicitly supports it.

Choose it if: the room is bright, you want a premium OLED, you play PC games at high frame rates, or you already prefer Samsung’s smart-TV ecosystem.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose something else if: Dolby Vision is important to your movie library, the TV will be exposed to direct reflections that no screen coating can overcome, or you want the simplest possible interface rather than Samsung’s platform.

Best for movie processing and cinematic presentation: Sony BRAVIA 8 II

The Sony BRAVIA 8 II is a premium OLED for viewers who value image processing, motion handling, and a polished cinematic presentation. It uses Google TV and supports 4K/120Hz, eARC, VRR, and ALLM. Those features make it suitable for gaming as well as films, but its strongest case is the way Sony handles movie sources, motion, and picture refinement.

In a 2025 professional shootout by Value Electronics, 65-inch versions of the Sony BRAVIA 8 II, LG G5, Panasonic Z95B, and Samsung S95F were compared. The Sony led the published overall average among those four entries. That result is useful evidence of strong performance in one expert evaluation; it is not universal proof that the Sony is superior for every viewer, room, or picture preference.

Choose it if: films and prestige television matter most, you like Sony’s motion processing, or you want Google TV and a less aggressively vivid presentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Watch for: exact size availability and current pricing. Sony’s premium models may not have the same broad stock and discount pattern as LG, Samsung, TCL, or Roku sets. Confirm the model number before ordering.

Best value Mini-LED: TCL QM7K

The TCL QM7K is the best direction for shoppers who want a bright, large-screen television with Mini-LED local dimming and serious gaming features without moving to flagship OLED pricing. TCL describes the 2025 series as QD-Mini LED with Halo Control, up to 144Hz native refresh, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, IMAX Enhanced, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and Google TV.

The size range is a major part of the QM7K’s value. TCL announced 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, 98-, and 115-inch versions. Its 2025 launch MSRPs were $1,299.99 for 55 inches, $1,499.99 for 65 inches, $1,999.99 for 75 inches, and $2,499.99 for 85 inches, with larger 98- and 115-inch models above those levels. These are launch MSRPs, not current street prices; TCL and retailers have shown later promotional pricing, and clearance prices can change quickly.

Mini-LED is a particularly practical choice for sports, daytime viewing, rooms with substantial ambient light, and buyers who want 75 inches or more. The trade-off is that local dimming is not the same as pixel-level control. Bright subtitles, stars, or small highlights against a dark background can produce a visible halo, commonly called blooming. The amount depends on the scene, viewing angle, settings, and exact screen size.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: brightness, a large screen, gaming, or value matters more than OLED’s perfect per-pixel black.

Choose an OLED instead if: the room is light-controlled and film contrast is your priority, or your seating arrangement requires especially wide viewing angles.

Best simple streaming experience: Roku Pro Series

The Roku Pro Series TV is aimed at households that value a straightforward interface and fast access to streaming apps more than extensive picture-calibration controls. Roku lists the current Pro Series as a 4K QLED television with Mini-LED full-array local dimming, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ Adaptive, 120Hz refresh, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6, HDMI 2.1 inputs, and Roku Smart Picture Max. The current product page lists 55-, 65-, and 75-inch models.

Roku’s 2025 lineup announcement also described factory calibration and improvements to picture tuning, sound, app launch speed, and bass. This makes the Pro Series more than a basic streaming screen, although its value depends heavily on the generation and sale price you find. Distinguish current Pro Series stock from older Pro Series models with similar names.

Choose it if: several people in the household need an uncomplicated interface, the TV is primarily for streaming and sports, or you want a premium-feeling set without moving to a flagship OLED.

Check before buying: the exact model year, refresh rate, HDMI specification, and available apps. No smart-TV operating system guarantees access to every streaming service indefinitely.

Premium movie-focused alternative: Panasonic Z95B

The Panasonic Z95B deserves consideration in a dedicated theater or carefully controlled living room. Panasonic announced the US 2025 flagship in 55-, 65-, and 77-inch sizes with Fire TV built in and redesigned audio. It is a legitimate premium alternative for movie enthusiasts, but it is better treated as a specialized option than as the universal winner: availability, discounts, and regional stock may be less predictable than with the main LG, Samsung, Sony, TCL, and Roku lines.

Best budget direction

At the lowest budgets, prioritize the exact television and the retailer’s return policy rather than choosing only by brand. A current 4K LED or QLED set from a major manufacturer can be a sensible purchase, but inexpensive models often make compromises in one or more of these areas:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • HDR brightness and highlight detail
  • Local-dimming performance and black-level consistency
  • Motion clarity for sports
  • Viewing angles when seats are spread across a room
  • Input lag and high-refresh gaming support
  • Build quality, speakers, and the speed of the smart-TV interface

Roku’s lineup includes Select and Plus tiers below Pro, while TCL and other manufacturers sell entry-level 4K Google TV and Roku TV models. Do not assume that an inexpensive model with “HDR,” “QLED,” or “120” in its marketing name performs like a premium Mini-LED or OLED. Check whether the stated refresh rate is native, whether the set has local dimming, which HDMI inputs support the advertised gaming modes, and whether the screen is returnable if uniformity or blooming is disappointing.

OLED versus Mini-LED: which technology fits your room?

Consideration OLED Mini-LED LCD
Dark-room movies Usually stronger. Each pixel can turn off independently, producing very deep black without a conventional backlight. Can be excellent, but local dimming zones cannot control every pixel and may create blooming.
Bright-room viewing Premium models can be bright, but room reflections and sustained brightness still matter. Usually the safer choice for strong daylight, sports, and sustained bright scenes.
Reflections Coatings differ by model; a bright panel does not automatically eliminate reflections. Coatings and screen geometry also vary; direct window reflections remain a separate problem.
Viewing angle Generally a strong choice when seating is spread out, although exact panel behavior varies. Can lose contrast or color off-axis, particularly on less expensive models.
Very large screens Available in large sizes, but prices can rise quickly. Often offers more affordable 75-, 85-, 98-, and larger-screen choices.
Static content Long-term static elements can create burn-in risk; varied content and normal use reduce concern but do not make the risk zero. No OLED-style pixel wear pattern, though LCD sets have their own aging and uniformity considerations.

For a dark home theater, OLED remains the safer technology recommendation because it does not depend on a backlight to create black. For a bright room, a sports-heavy household, or a buyer seeking the largest screen for the money, Mini-LED is often more practical. The technology label is only the starting point: a premium Mini-LED can outperform a cheap one by a wide margin in dimming, brightness, motion, and processing.

Choose screen size by viewing distance, not room name

Measure from your eyes in the normal seating position to the screen surface. A useful 4K/UHD starting point from THX is:

Recommended diagonal in inches = viewing distance in inches ÷ 0.835

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The result estimates an immersive field of view; it is not a mandatory size. Viewers who prefer a calmer image can go smaller, while home-theater viewers may go larger. Consumer Reports summarizes the broader standards-based range as roughly a 30- to 40-degree field of view, with THX toward the immersive end and SMPTE toward the more conservative end.

Eye-to-screen distance THX-style estimate Practical mainstream choices
5 feet / 60 inches About 72 inches 65 or 75 inches, depending on how immersive you want the image to feel
6 feet / 72 inches About 86 inches 75 or 85 inches
7 feet / 84 inches About 101 inches 85 inches is the practical mainstream choice; 98 inches is more immersive
8 feet / 96 inches About 115 inches 98 inches or larger, if the room and budget allow

Keep your primary line of sight approximately centered vertically. THX recommends no more than about 15 degrees above or below the screen center. A television mounted too high over a fireplace may look tidy but can create neck strain and a less natural viewing angle. Measure the seated eye height before choosing the mount position.

Room-by-room recommendations

Small bedroom, office, or apartment

Choose a 42- to 55-inch set when seating is close and you prefer a less immersive image. The LG C5 is unusually flexible here because its range begins at 42 inches while retaining premium OLED features. A 55-inch TCL QM7K or Roku Pro can work when the viewer sits farther away, the room is bright, or higher brightness is more important than compact size.

Average living room

At approximately 6 to 9 feet, 65 to 75 inches is the mainstream range. Choose the LG C5 for dark or mixed lighting, the TCL QM7K for brightness and value, the Samsung S95F for premium gaming, or the Roku Pro when interface simplicity is the deciding factor. Do not buy a 65-inch model automatically because it is the usual size; your measurement may support 75 or 85 inches.

Large living room or open-plan space

At roughly 8 to 12 feet, consider 75, 85, 98, or larger depending on the actual seating distance and budget. The TCL QM7K is especially relevant because its 2025 range extends to 98 and 115 inches. For an open-plan room with daylight, Mini-LED is usually the practical choice unless you specifically prefer OLED contrast and can control the light.

Dedicated home theater

In a light-controlled theater, favor an OLED such as the LG C5, Samsung S95F, Sony BRAVIA 8 II, or Panasonic Z95B. Choose among them by picture style, gaming needs, smart platform, audio plan, and price rather than assuming that the most expensive set is automatically best. If you plan to use an AV receiver or soundbar, confirm eARC support and plan cable routes before the walls are closed.

Bright room, sports, or windows opposite the TV

Favor a high-performing Mini-LED such as the TCL QM7K, or choose the Samsung S95F if you strongly prefer OLED. First address the geometry: move the screen perpendicular to windows where possible, add shades, and avoid placing a light source directly behind the viewer. Peak brightness cannot fully compensate for a bright reflection in the panel.

Gaming checklist for PS5, Xbox, and PC

For modern console or PC gaming, look for all of the following rather than relying on a single refresh-rate number:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • HDMI 2.1 inputs: Important for compatible 4K/120Hz console and PC connections. Check which specific ports support the full feature set.
  • 4K/120Hz or higher: The relevant target for current consoles; higher advertised rates are mainly useful to capable gaming PCs.
  • VRR: Helps synchronize the panel with changing game frame rates and reduce tearing.
  • ALLM: Automatically switches to a lower-latency game mode on compatible equipment.
  • Low input lag: Especially important for competitive games.
  • Suitable size and distance: A huge screen can be less comfortable for a desk or close gaming position.

The LG C5 supports up to 4K/144Hz-class gaming features, the Samsung S95F supports up to 165Hz-class motion for compatible devices, the TCL QM7K advertises 144Hz native refresh and additional Game Accelerator modes, and the Roku Pro lists 120Hz and HDMI 2.1 connectivity. Manufacturer refresh-rate figures should not be treated as identical performance at every resolution, input, screen size, or game mode. Verify the exact size and model specification before buying.

Smart-TV platforms: choose the interface you will actually use

  • LG webOS 25: A good fit for buyers who want LG’s interface alongside the C5’s picture and gaming features.
  • Samsung’s platform: Appropriate for buyers already invested in Samsung devices and services, but remember that the S95F lacks Dolby Vision.
  • Google TV: Built into the Sony BRAVIA 8 II and TCL QM7K. It is useful for viewers who prefer Google’s content discovery and account ecosystem.
  • Roku TV: The simplest recommendation for streaming-first households that want a familiar, low-friction layout.
  • Fire TV: Built into Panasonic’s US Z95B, making it a natural fit for households already using Amazon’s interface and voice ecosystem.

App catalogs, software support, advertisements, and interface speed can change. Choose an operating system for its current usability, not a promise that every service will remain available forever. A separate streaming device can also extend the useful life of a good display if its built-in software becomes slow or outdated.

Installation and room-planning details that are easy to miss

A TV purchase is also a mounting, power, cable, and sound decision—particularly for a remodel or new-room project.

  • Wall construction: Confirm the mount’s VESA pattern and load rating against the exact TV. For a large set, attach the mount to suitable structural framing or an approved backing system rather than relying only on wall surface material.
  • Viewing height: Position the screen around seated eye level and account for the mount, furniture, and any soundbar below it.
  • Power and data: Plan outlet, Ethernet, HDMI, and conduit locations before finishing the wall. Follow local electrical rules; do not place an ordinary power cord inside a wall unless it is specifically approved for in-wall use.
  • Access: Leave a practical way to replace cables, service the TV, or change a streaming device. A recessed box can improve appearance but should not make future maintenance impossible.
  • Sound: Thin TVs usually benefit from a soundbar or an AV system. Check ARC/eARC compatibility and reserve space if a soundbar will sit below a wall-mounted screen.
  • Light control: Window location, shade placement, and lamp position can matter more than a small difference in advertised brightness.

Useful setup accessories include a low-profile TV wall mount for a close-to-the-wall installation, an HDMI 2.1 cable for 4K 120Hz gaming when the TV and source both support those modes, a soundbar for TV when built-in audio is inadequate, and a surge protector for home theater when several components need organized power. None is mandatory for every buyer: verify VESA fit, load capacity, cable length, eARC/ARC compatibility, and the electrical requirements of the equipment you are installing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to choose in five steps

  1. Measure viewing distance. Use the THX-style calculation as a starting point, then adjust for your preferred immersion.
  2. Assess the light. A dark or controllable room favors OLED; intense daylight, sports, and direct reflections usually favor Mini-LED or a bright premium OLED.
  3. Set the minimum size and feature requirements. Decide whether you need 42 inches, 75 inches, 98 inches, HDMI 2.1, 120Hz, Dolby Vision, or a particular smart-TV platform.
  4. Match the shortlist to your content. Movie enthusiasts should prioritize black level and processing; sports viewers should prioritize brightness and motion; gamers should verify ports, VRR, ALLM, and input lag.
  5. Compare the exact model, size, price, and return terms. A specification may differ by screen size, and 2025 stock may be clearance inventory. Confirm the model year and condition before purchase.

Prices and availability in 2026

There is no responsible evergreen street-price claim for these models. The 2025 generation is now competing with 2026 televisions, so promotions, clearance sales, remaining sizes, open-box units, and seller conditions can change from week to week. Manufacturer launch MSRP is useful for understanding the original market position; it is not a promise of current value.

When comparing a remaining 2025 TV with a newer model, check more than the discount. Confirm the exact panel size, warranty, return window, included stand, HDMI features, software generation, and whether the seller is authorized or reputable. A low price is less attractive if the set is difficult to return after discovering panel uniformity problems, blooming, dead pixels, or an unexpected size-specific limitation.

Our final buying recommendations

  • For the broadest combination of picture quality, gaming, and sizes, start with the LG C5 OLED.
  • For a bright room and premium gaming, compare the Samsung S95F OLED, while accepting its lack of Dolby Vision.
  • For a film-first buyer who values processing and motion, consider the Sony BRAVIA 8 II.
  • For a bright room, sports, or a 75-inch-plus screen at a more approachable position, start with the TCL QM7K.
  • For the least complicated streaming experience, choose the Roku Pro Series TV after verifying the current model.
  • For a premium theater alternative with Fire TV and redesigned audio, investigate the Panasonic Z95B.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best smart TV of 2025 overall?

For most buyers, the LG C5 OLED is the best all-around choice because it combines excellent contrast, HDR, motion, gaming features, and sizes from 42 to 83 inches. Choose a Mini-LED model such as the TCL QM7K instead if the room is very bright or you want a particularly large screen at a lower relative cost.

What TV size is best at 8 feet?

At eight feet, the THX-style calculation points to approximately a 115-inch diagonal, but that is an immersive estimate rather than a requirement. A 98-inch TV is a practical large-screen choice, while a 75- or 85-inch model may suit viewers who prefer a less immersive image.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is OLED or Mini-LED better for a living room?

OLED is usually better in a dark, light-controlled room because each pixel can turn off independently. Mini-LED is usually more practical for strong daylight, sports, direct reflections, and very large screens. Premium models of either type can perform well, but cheaper Mini-LED sets may show more blooming and cheaper OLED sets may not be as bright.

Does the Samsung S95F support Dolby Vision?

The Samsung S95F does not support Dolby Vision. It supports Samsung’s HDR formats, including HDR10+, but HDR10+ is not the same format as Dolby Vision and is not available in exactly the same titles or services.

Do I need a wall mount, HDMI 2.1 cable, or soundbar?

Not every buyer needs one. A wall mount must match the TV’s VESA pattern and weight, and a 4K/120Hz gaming setup needs compatible HDMI 2.1 ports and an appropriate cable. A soundbar is optional but useful when built-in TV audio is not sufficient. Verify compatibility with the exact television before purchasing accessories.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The LG C5 OLED is the best default recommendation for most US buyers, but the TCL QM7K is often the smarter choice for a bright room or very large screen. Choose the Samsung S95F for premium OLED gaming, the Sony BRAVIA 8 II for movie presentation, and the Roku Pro when simple streaming matters most. Measure the viewing distance and verify the exact size, ports, price, and return terms before ordering.
