If you want to brown food on the stove and then slow-cook it in the same vessel, look for a removable insert whose manufacturer explicitly approves stovetop use. Among the models surfaced here, Chefman RJ15-6-DC-V2, GreenPan’s 7-in-1 6-quart cooker, Hamilton Beach 33567, All-Clad’s 5-quart 6-in-1, and Breville EasySear fit that description in different ways. Their inserts vary in material, capacity, oven limits, care instructions, and availability; no hands-on performance ranking is established.
What “metal insert” means when shopping
For this guide, a metal insert means the removable inner cooking vessel—not the slow cooker’s exterior housing. A stainless-steel appliance finish does not prove that its inner pot is metal or safe to use on a stovetop. Check the exact model’s product information and manual for insert material and approved heat sources.
These five manufacturer-described options have removable vessels intended for stovetop use, but the available sources do not give a consistent compatibility list for gas, electric, ceramic, and induction cooktops. Confirm your cooktop type in the manual before heating the pot directly.

How to choose among the models
For a straightforward 6-quart option
Hamilton Beach 33567 is specifically described as a programmable stovetop slow cooker with an aluminum insert that can go directly on the stove for browning. Chefman also offers a 6-quart die-cast insert with a stated 425°F oven limit, but its product page showed it out of stock at the time checked. GreenPan’s 6-quart model adds a stated 400°F oven limit and dishwasher-safe care guidance. Verify availability and cooktop compatibility for whichever model you consider.
#1 Best Overall
- LOCK IN THE FLAVOR — SEAR RIGHT ON THE STOVETOP. Sear on the stovetop, then finish the meal in the same pot. The removable nonstick aluminum pot cooks directly on gas, electric or ceramic stovetops.
- 15 HEATING OPTIONS. Mix and match high, low or warm heat settings with your choice of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 hours of cooking time.
- CLIP-TIGHT SEALED LID HELPS PREVENT MESSY SPILLS: Take your slow cooker to parties or on the road without worrying about messy spills. The clip-tight sealed lid locks onto the slow cooker to improve portability.
- SERVES 7+ PEOPLE: This programmable slow cooker's 6 quart capacity is the perfect size for a 6 lb. chicken or 4 lb. roast. Cook a hearty meal for the whole family or serve a delicious main dish on your buffet for the holidays.
- AUTOMATIC KEEP WARM. When your cooking time is up, this 6 quart slow cooker automatically shifts to warm to keep food at the perfect temperature until serving time.
For a larger vessel
Breville EasySear has the largest stated capacity among these options at 7 quarts, but it is discontinued according to Breville’s product page, so it is better treated as a used or remaining-stock possibility than a readily available current recommendation. Its manual specifies an oven limit of 480°F (250°C) for the removable insert and lid.
For an enameled cast-iron pot
All-Clad’s 5-quart 6-in-1 model uses a removable enameled cast-iron pot described for cooktop, oven, and serving use. Because the product listing and care text differ on dishwasher use, follow the current manual rather than assuming the pot is dishwasher-safe.
Rank #2
- REPLACES 12 COOKING TOOLS & APPLIANCES: This cooker replaces the need for a slow cooker, food warmer, nonstick pot, sauté pan, cast iron skillet, saucier, saucepan, stock pot, Dutch oven, roasting pan, bread maker, and utensil
- 6 COOKING FUNCTIONS: Slow Cook, Sear/Sauté, Keep Warm, Sous Vide, Braise, and Proof
- SEAR & SAUTÉ DIRECTLY IN THE POT: Using the bottom heating elements, you are able to sear proteins and sauté vegetables right in the cooking pot—no need to transfer to the stovetop
- OVEN SAFE TO 500°F: Removable cooking pot is oven safe up to 500°F, so you can finish your meal in the oven for a crispy top
- PERFECT FOR ENTERTAINING: 8.5-quart cooking capacity allows you to make chili for up to 20 people, 9 lbs of spaghetti and meatballs, or enough pulled pork for 30 sliders
Check before using the pot on a stove or in an oven
- Identify the exact model and insert. Confirm that the model number matches the product details; exterior finishes are not evidence of inner-pot material.
- Confirm your cooktop type. Read the manual for your model to verify whether it permits the insert on your specific gas, electric, ceramic, or induction surface. Do not infer compatibility from “stovetop-safe” alone.
- Follow the model’s temperature limit. Chefman lists 425°F and explicitly excludes broiler use; GreenPan lists 400°F; Breville’s EasySear manual lists 480°F (250°C) for its insert and lid. These limits apply only to the named models.
- Use safe handling practices. GreenPan warns that its pot becomes especially hot during browning and advises heat-resistant gloves or oven mitts. Lift and place the vessel carefully, with a clear, heat-safe landing spot.
- Follow the stated care method. GreenPan says its pot and lid are dishwasher-safe and recommends silicone utensils to extend coating life. For All-Clad, consult the current manual because the listing and care text conflict.
What the available specifications do—and do not—show
The listed capacities, materials, heat limits, and care statements are manufacturer specifications, not results from a shared independent test. They help establish whether a vessel is designed for stove-to-slow-cooker use, but they do not establish which model browns faster, cooks more evenly, lasts longer, or produces better meals. Choose by verified fit, capacity, cooktop compatibility, care preferences, and current availability rather than an unsupported performance ranking.
