A shower caddy is a useful way to keep toiletries together on the trip to campโs bathhouse, and several camp packing lists specifically ask families to bring one. There is no universal best style: check your campโs rules and where the caddy will be used and stored before choosing it.
Check the campโs shower and storage setup first
Camp rules and facilities should determine what you buy. Some lists simply request a caddy, while others may have details about what campers can bring or where belongings are kept. Ask the camp if its instructions do not make the requirements clear.
For example, Camp Nyoda describes a storage constraint involving mesh-sided containers at its sinks. That is a camp-specific detail, not a general rule for choosing a caddy. Before shopping, find out:
- How much space is available in the shower area?
- Where does the caddy go when it is not being used?
- Does the camp specify a type or size?
- Will the camper need to carry it between a cabin and a shared bathhouse?
Those answers can help narrow the options without assuming that mesh, plastic, a hanging hook, compartments, or a particular capacity is best for every camp.

Pack toiletries according to the camp list
Use the camperโs own packing list as the final checklist. Takodah YMCAโs list includes these toiletries:
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Soap and shampoo
- Deodorant, if needed
- Shaving items, if needed
- A comb or brush
Keep the caddy focused on what the camper will actually use, rather than adding products just to fill it. A camp may have its own requirements, so do not treat this example as a substitute for the current list.

Pack shower shoes separately
Shower shoes or flip-flops appear alongside caddies on several camp packing lists. Check whether the camp requests them and pack them as a separate item; the caddy does not replace footwear for the shower.
Label the caddy and its contents
Mark the caddy and toiletries so they can be identified if misplaced. The National Park Serviceโs New River Gorge camp packing guidance says, โLabel Everything. ID your camperโs belongings with permanent markers or sewn in labels.โ The American Camp Association of NY and NJ likewise recommends labeling clothing, shoes, towels, and toiletries to help identify items in lost and found.
