The best Sharp air purifier depends on your room and the features you need: choose the FXJ80UW for Sharp’s largest AHAM-rated room size and app or Alexa-enabled control, the FPK50UW for straightforward medium-room purification, or the KC850U if you also want humidification. The room-size figures below use Sharp’s AHAM suggested rating at 4.8 air changes per hour, so they are more useful for comparing these models than the much larger coverage figures Sharp gives at one air change per hour.

How to choose by room size
For a larger room: FXJ80UW
The FXJ80UW has the highest AHAM suggested room-size rating in this comparison: 502 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour. Sharp separately advertises coverage up to 2,430 sq ft at one air change per hour. That is a different air-change basis, not an equivalent rating for the same cleaning intensity, so use the 502 sq ft figure when comparing it with the other two models here.

For a medium room without a humidifier: FPK50UW
Sharp rates the FPK50UW for 259 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour. It has True HEPA filtration, an activated-carbon filter intended to help reduce some common household odors, Plasmacluster 7000 Series, and Max, Med, Sleep, and Express Clean settings. Its room rating is close to the KC850U’s, but it does not add the humidifying function.
For a medium room with humidification: KC850U
The KC850U combines air purification and humidification, with a 254 sq ft AHAM suggested room size at 4.8 air changes per hour. Sharp also lists 1,230 sq ft at one air change per hour; as with the other models’ larger coverage figures, that should not be mistaken for the 4.8-air-change rating. The operation manual describes humidification as running up to 10 hours per filling; actual runtime can depend on use and conditions.

What the CADR numbers tell you
CADR separates performance into smoke, dust, and pollen categories. Among these three Sharp models, the FXJ80UW has the highest listed figure in all three categories, consistent with its larger AHAM suggested room size. The FPK50UW and KC850U have similar room-size ratings and lower CADR figures; the KC850U’s distinction is its humidifier rather than a larger rated room.
Sharp’s KC850U specification sheet says its True HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns from air passing through the filter. This is a filter-capture claim; it does not establish that the unit removes that share of every pollutant from all the air in a room.

App and voice control
The FXJ80UW supports monitoring and control through the Sharp Air app and is compatible with Amazon Echo and other Alexa-enabled devices. Its official product information also lists an off timer of up to 12 hours. These features make it the clearest choice if remote control or voice control matters.
Simpler operation
The FPK50UW offers physical operating choices suited to routine use, including Max, Med, Sleep, and Express Clean modes. Sharp’s listed specifications do not identify app or Alexa control for this model.

Combined purification and humidification
The KC850U is the option to consider when you want one appliance that both purifies and humidifies. It has True HEPA and washable active-carbon filtration in addition to its humidifying function. Sharp’s 2016 specification sheet gives a separate estimate of up to two years for the humidifying filter; this is distinct from the product-page estimate for the HEPA and carbon filters.
Replacement filters and upkeep
Check the purifier’s exact model before ordering: Sharp lists different replacement part numbers for each unit. The stated filter lives are estimates that vary with environment, not guaranteed replacement schedules.
