Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a small or medium lawn, the Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini is the more compact choice; for a larger area, compare it with the EdgeGuard DLX, which has a higher stated product capacity. Both include EdgeGuard, which blocks the right side of the spread pattern when engaged. Scotts’ capacity figures are manufacturer claims—not independent tests or guarantees of even coverage—so choose by lawn layout and follow the setting on the exact fertilizer label.
Which Scotts spreader is best for my lawn size?
The clearest official difference between the EdgeGuard Mini and EdgeGuard DLX is how much Scotts lawn product each is stated to hold. Scotts describes these figures as coverage capacity; they are not hopper volume measurements or independently verified lawn-size recommendations.
| Model | Scotts-stated product capacity | Relevant features | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader | Up to 5,000 square feet of Scotts lawn product (Scotts product page) | Fold-down handle; applies fertilizer, seed, salt and ice melt; EdgeGuard blocks the right side of the spread pattern when engaged. | Small or medium yards, especially where compact storage or controlling the spread edge matters. |
| Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader | Up to 15,000 square feet of Scotts lawn product (Scotts product page) | Applies fertilizer, grass seed and other lawn products; EdgeGuard blocks the right side of the spread pattern when engaged. | A larger area where the higher stated capacity is useful. |
Scotts positions the Mini for small or medium yards and describes the DLX as holding up to three times as much Scotts product by its stated coverage figure. The product pages do not establish that either model is more durable, more accurate, or produces better coverage in independent testing. They also do not establish how either performs beside garden beds.
Scotts EdgeGuard Mini vs. DLX: what should guide the choice?
Choose the Mini when storage and a smaller area matter
The Mini has a fold-down handle and Scotts describes it for small or medium yards. Consider it if the DLX’s higher stated capacity is unnecessary for your lawn and you value a handle that folds for storage.

Consider the DLX when you need higher stated capacity
The DLX’s official product page gives a capacity of up to 15,000 square feet of Scotts lawn product. That is the most concrete reason in Scotts’ descriptions to compare it for a larger lawn; it does not prove faster application or better results.
Use EdgeGuard thoughtfully near hard edges
On both models, engaging EdgeGuard blocks the right side of the spread pattern to help direct product away from non-lawn areas. It is a directional feature, not a guarantee that material cannot reach a sidewalk, driveway or planting bed. Plan your route and keep the spreader moving in the intended direction along edges.

What setting should I use on a Scotts spreader?
Use the setting printed on the label for the exact fertilizer you are applying. Settings vary by fertilizer and spreader type; a setting from another product or Scotts model is not a universal recommendation.
For example, Scotts lists these settings for Turf Builder Lawn Food: 3½ for broadcast/rotary spreaders, 6½ for drop spreaders, and 3¾ for Wizz spreaders. Those figures apply to that Lawn Food product and the spreader types named on its page. Scotts says a 12.5-pound bag covers 5,000 square feet; that is the product’s package coverage statement, not a measurement of spreader performance.

Scotts’ descriptions are useful for comparing stated capacity, intended yard size and listed features. They are not independent side-by-side tests of accuracy, durability, coverage quality, value or performance around garden beds. The best-supported choice is therefore based on your area, storage needs, spread-edge control and the setting specified for your fertilizer—not on an unsupported claim that one model produces a more beautiful lawn.
