The best Roomba replacement battery is the one that exactly matches your robot’s model, chemistry, connector and battery-management system—not the pack with the highest mAh number. For the lowest compatibility and warranty risk, buy a genuine iRobot battery identified by your exact model or SKU. Consider an aftermarket pack only when it documents the same chemistry, connector, dimensions, supported models, warranty and returns.
Quick recommendations
- Best overall: a model-matched genuine iRobot battery from iRobot or an authorized dealer.
- Older 600, 800 and 900 Series: use the exact iRobot 1,800-mAh or 3,300-mAh lithium-ion pack listed for your model; do not infer compatibility from appearance.
- e, i and selected j models: choose the listed 1,800-mAh or 2,210-mAh pack by SKU.
- Selected Combo j and Combo 10 Max models: the officially supported 4,460-mAh pack is the runtime-oriented option.
- Lowest upfront cost: a clearly documented aftermarket battery, accepting greater uncertainty about charging electronics, capacity and warranty.
- Safety- and warranty-sensitive owners: use an authentic iRobot pack and follow iRobot’s compatibility guidance. iRobot warns that non-iRobot parts can void its warranty (iRobot battery compatibility guidance).
Identify the exact Roomba before buying
- Read the model name printed on the robot.
- Turn it over and check the model or regulatory label.
- Confirm the model in the iRobot app or original purchase documents.
- Use iRobot’s model lookup and compatibility chart rather than matching by shape alone (iRobot accessories and model lookup).
- If uncertainty remains, remove the existing pack and compare its part number, chemistry, connector and physical shape.
Searches for “Roomba battery” are too broad. A battery that fits an i7 may not fit an i7+, and a pack with the same voltage or capacity may still have the wrong connector, cell arrangement or control electronics.

These specifications come from iRobot’s current compatibility information (full compatibility article). Chemistry is decisive: Li-ion, NiMH and LFP packs are not interchangeable simply because their voltage or mAh labels appear similar.

On iRobot’s U.S. battery page, prices observed on August 18, 2026 were $99.99 for the e/i/select j battery, $109.99 for the 1,800-mAh battery, $119.99 for the s9 battery, $129.99 for the 3,300-mAh battery and $169.99 for the Combo j9+/j7+ and select j9+ battery. Several showed as out of stock, so both price and availability are time-sensitive (iRobot batteries).

For model-specific purchasing, iRobot lists the 3,300-mAh SKU 4462425 at its product page and the 1,800-mAh replacement at this product page. If official stock is unavailable, verify that an advertised dealer is authorized and offers a model-specific return policy.
When an aftermarket battery makes sense
An aftermarket pack can be reasonable for a discontinued Roomba or when OEM stock is unavailable, but treat it as a compatibility project rather than an automatic upgrade. For example, Powerextra lists a 4.0-Ah, 14.4-volt NiMH pack for numerous older 500–900 Series models (manufacturer product page). That page does not establish independent runtime, cycle-life or safety testing, so it is a budget alternative, not a proven best performer.

- Require the exact supported model list, chemistry, nominal voltage, connector and dimensions.
- Look for a named manufacturer, warranty, safety information and returns covering charging failure.
- Avoid listings claiming compatibility with nearly every Roomba, mixing Li-ion and NiMH models, or giving only an mAh number.
- Do not buy a used pack with unknown cycle history or storage conditions.
Why a higher mAh rating is not automatically better
Within the same voltage class, more mAh can mean more stored energy, but it does not guarantee proportionally longer runtime, faster charging, longer service life or better cleaning. The pack must physically fit, use the correct chemistry and connector, and communicate safely with the robot’s charging system. A replacement restores available runtime; it does not inherently increase suction, brush speed, navigation or mapping performance.

Tell battery failure from a cleaning or dock problem
Symptoms that point toward the battery
- Sharp runtime reduction after a full charge.
- Stopping during a job and returning unusually early.
- Repeated battery or charging errors.
- Powering off soon after leaving the dock.
- Much longer charging than usual.
- Inability to hold a charge after sitting unused.
Checks to make before ordering
- Remove hair from extractors, brushes and drive wheels.
- Clear airflow paths and empty the bin.
- Clean the robot and Home Base charging contacts.
- Ensure the dock is powered, accessible and correctly positioned.
- Consider heavy carpet, pet hair and high-suction workloads.
iRobot notes that a clogged robot works harder and exhausts its battery faster (battery care guidance). Weekly extractor cleaning, or twice weekly in homes with pets, is recommended in its maintenance information (maintenance schedule).

What Charging Error 114 means
iRobot describes Charging Error 114 as an internal battery error that generally requires battery replacement. Unknown charging errors can also occur with aftermarket batteries (iRobot charging-error guidance). Before concluding that the pack is defective, clean the contacts, reseat the battery and verify its chemistry, connector and SKU. If the original battery is available, reinstall it as a diagnostic step. A replacement cannot repair a failed charger, dock or contact assembly.
How to replace a Roomba battery safely
- Turn the robot upside down on a stable, flat surface.
- Loosen or remove the edge-sweeping brush screw if your model requires it.
- Remove the bottom-cover screws and lift off the cover.
- Take out the old battery without bending, crushing or puncturing it.
- Install the new battery in the same orientation; never force a pack that does not seat correctly.
- Reinstall the cover and tighten every screw. The screw count varies by model; the s9 has an additional battery screw.
- Check that the cover is flush and clear of wheels and sensors.
- Place the robot on its Home Base and allow it to charge.
Follow the model-specific instructions in iRobot’s replacement guide (battery replacement instructions). Essential models have a sleep/ship-mode procedure. Do not open, solder, modify or use a swollen, leaking, hot or damaged lithium-ion pack. Recycle the old battery through a qualified battery-recycling channel.

Expected lifespan and maintenance
iRobot says a properly cared-for battery should last at least two to three years before replacement is needed. That is a general expectation, not a guarantee; workload, cleaning frequency, temperature, chemistry and storage change the result.

- Recharge promptly after cleaning.
- Charge at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.
- Keep brushes, wheels and airflow paths free of hair and debris.
- For storage longer than a few weeks, use ship mode where supported.
- If ship mode is unavailable or unsuitable, remove the battery and store it cool and dry.
- During long-term storage, fully charge the battery at least once every six months.
Final pre-purchase checklist
- Exact Roomba model and whether it is a “+” or Combo variant.
- Battery chemistry: Li-ion, NiMH or LFP.
- Nominal voltage, capacity and physical dimensions.
- Official iRobot SKU or an exact replacement reference.
- Connector and pin arrangement.
- Seller authenticity, warranty and charging-failure return terms.
- Current stock status and price.
- Recycling and safety information.
When these details agree, a new battery can restore the runtime your Roomba had when its original pack was healthy. When they do not, the highest-capacity or cheapest listing is usually the wrong choice.
