Of the examples below, ALUSSO lists a handheld remote; HALO and STEINEL offer app-based control, with different network requirements. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently tested rankings, so choose by control method, coverage, installation fit, and outdoor rating—not by the word “best” alone.
What does “remote control” mean for an outdoor floodlight?
A handheld remote and a smartphone app solve different problems. A handheld remote lets you operate a compatible fixture directly; app control may depend on Bluetooth range, Wi-Fi, a bridge, or an internet connection. Motion sensing is a separate function: it turns a light on in response to detected movement, rather than letting you choose when to operate it.
- Handheld remote: ALUSSO lists a remote with its 25 W dimmable motion-sensor floodlight.
- Bluetooth/app: HALO Home FTS20CB uses Bluetooth mesh. Cooper Lighting Solutions says no bridge is needed for its system features, but a bridge is required for voice control and remote access.
- Wi-Fi/app: HALO ESF WiZ supports Wi-Fi app or voice control; its manufacturer says a hub is not needed.
- Bluetooth/app with motion sensing: STEINEL XLED home 2 SC combines Bluetooth app control with motion detection.
Don’t confuse these with a “remote-drive” commercial floodlight. Holophane’s HOLOBEAM HBMR uses that term for a remotely located driver; it is not a consumer fixture advertised with a handheld user remote.

Choose the control setup that fits how you’ll use the light
Choose a handheld remote for direct, simple operation
If you want to dim or operate the light without opening an app, look for a fixture that explicitly includes a handheld transmitter, as ALUSSO lists. Check what the remote actually controls—such as on/off or dimming—and whether it must be aimed at the fixture or works through obstacles. The cited ALUSSO page establishes that a remote is included, but does not state a control range or list every remote function.
Choose Bluetooth when nearby phone control is enough
Bluetooth app control is suited to adjusting lights while you are within the product’s supported range. HALO Home publishes a 35 ft smartphone range for FTS20CB and 100 ft between devices; actual coverage can vary with layout and obstructions. The manufacturer says its system features work without a bridge, while voice control and remote access require one. STEINEL also lists Bluetooth app control, but the cited page does not state a comparable control range.

Choose Wi-Fi when you want app or voice control over a network
HALO WiZ is the listed Wi-Fi example and is described by its manufacturer as requiring no hub. Confirm what the app can do locally and away from home, what network setup is required, and whether voice control needs a compatible service or device. Do not assume that every app-controlled floodlight includes the same remote-access features.
Match output and light quality to the area
Lumens describe the amount of light a fixture produces, but they do not tell you how evenly it will illuminate a driveway, work area, entrance, or yard. Beam spread, mounting height, aiming, obstructions, and the surface being lit affect coverage. The listed products’ lumen figures come from their manufacturers and were not measured side by side.

Color temperature also affects the appearance of the scene. HALO Home FTS20CB offers tunable white from 3000–5000 K; HALO WiZ offers tunable white from 2200–6500 K as well as full color; STEINEL lists a fixed 3000 K. If you need broad color choices, the WiZ specification is the most flexible of these examples. If you prefer a fixed warm-white setting, compare the actual color and beam options in the manufacturer’s documentation.
Check motion sensing separately from remote operation
A motion sensor can turn the light on when it detects movement; it is not a substitute for a handheld remote or app. STEINEL lists a 180-degree sensor and movement detection up to 10 m. ALUSSO describes a motion-sensor model but the cited product information does not provide a comparable detection distance or angle. Before buying, confirm whether the sensor’s sensitivity, duration, and operating mode can be adjusted to suit the location.

Verify outdoor suitability and installation before buying
Compare the rating and mounting instructions for the exact model against the conditions where it will be installed. HALO’s two listed pages describe wet-location use, while STEINEL lists IP44. These claims are not interchangeable descriptions; consult the model documentation to confirm what exposure is appropriate. ALUSSO’s stated fit for 3-inch or 3.5-inch round junction boxes is useful only if your existing box matches and the rest of the installation is compatible.
Also check whether the fixture is mains-wired, what wiring and mounting hardware it requires, how the light can be serviced, and what warranty applies to the specific model. Product listings do not establish compatibility with every existing switch, box, wiring setup, or local code.
